Houston, we have a problem - RIP Krypton - April 13, 2016

Ooc: @FitzDutiful and @Mason When you guys get the chance! No rush!

It appeared to the Silvertip wolf that the neighboring pack was sharing a border, a bit too close for comfort for her liking. Krypton didn't take a strong liking to the border sharing idea, especially since she had never met these wolves before.

She had already spoken to Beta Steady and Alpha Zaria, all that was left was to alarm the other beta Mason and the alpha FitzDutiful. She was near the border, standing to face it in a neutral stance. Her ears were flattened a bit, she sat down to look into the other territory.

With her muzzle shoved into the air, she gave a loud call for the Alpha and the beta only, for she wished to share this news with them.

RE: Houston, we have a problem - Mason - April 14, 2016

Hi! I know Andrea’s busy at the moment for posting so we can PP Mason telling him later if need be to keep the thread going.

Mason lifted his head at Krypton’s call. She was a solid pack member, and one of his favourites. She had stuck with them through thick and thin, and her presence as a guardian now was something that greatly relieved him with the small puppies milling around. He headed straight for her, pale nose to the ground to take in her scent and ensure he didn’t bypass her route on the mountain. It became stronger as he neared the borders, and Mason pushed into a lope, wondering if she had caught a trespasser and needed aid.

Mason danced onto the scene and immediately noted that no other wolf was nearby, so it wasn’t a trespasser. He bounced over to Krypton eagerly, tail wagging, a smile plastered on his face. His brothers and sisters kept him calm and happy at the moment. Plus they had Joo back.

“Hey! What’s up? I’ve not seen Dad today so I’m not sure when he’ll get here.” Mason peered around them to see whether Fitz approached or not. He wondered whether Krypton would let him in on the secret or wait.

RE: Houston, we have a problem - RIP Krypton - April 14, 2016

Ooc: Sounds good to me, thanks for joining!

Her wait was not long, for the light-pelted beta came running up to her. His smile was very evident along with his tail wag, the girl couldn't help but smile at him. Her sour mood about the other pack was a bit sweeter.

Mason greeted her kindly, though he stated that his father's location was unknown today and his presence might not come. Although she wanted Fitz to hear it, Krypton could just play telephone with Mason.

Not to worry Mason. I wanted you here too since you are a beta. Her smile did not fade as she spoke, but it did flatten a little as her eyes turned towards the border. She took a breath before looking towards the boy.

Mason, another pack has settled close enough to us to share a border with us. She looked over him to see any reaction before continuing. Although there have been no arguments about the border, I fear the unknown about this pack.

In all honesty, Krypton would rather know if a pack was aggressive rather than unknown. With the fear in mind, she stood up and motioned Mason to follow her to the border.

Mason, we haven't met any of the wolves from this pack, and I fear the worst about their friendliness. Krypton hated being the negative nancy, but she had the right to worry since Zaria was fresh with puppies. I was told by Zaria to take your father, Beta Steady, and you to meet these new wolves and see where they stand and maybe negotiate about the border.

She paused to look into their territory, wondering what wolves wandered around the land.

RE: Houston, we have a problem - Mason - April 18, 2016

Mason realised that he had been shirking his scouting duties, to not realise this new fact she immediately brought to his attention. His smile also dulled down a bit. Mason breathed out slowly “oh no…” – the fact that she went on to advise that she was worried about the pack really worried him in turn. He trusted her judgement.

He followed her but waited, as it seemed she had more to say, as they approached the border. He could scent it as they neared – a scent which washed him with nervousness. Whether or not the pack was friendly, they were now being penned in on various sides.

“Thanks Kryp. We’ll definitely have to go and meet them, yes. I s’pose we better be careful and show our friendly faces…” Mason trailed off and gazed over his shoulder in the direction of the Neverwinter Forest. “What is up with wolves settling right next to us? If we aren’t careful we will have no neutrals way out of Silvertip, and our prey is going to dwindle – herds that migrate across their land are not going to reach Silvertip as easily. We’ll have to be careful not to over-hunt in Felig Forest.” His annoyance verged on anger again, and it was evident in his tone. He looked back to Krypton, and by now his smile had been replaced by a frown. He waited to see if she had any input – although he knew that Zaria had mentioned taking Steady, Mason was all for going right now, and he would propose this to Krypton once she had had her say.

RE: Houston, we have a problem - RIP Krypton - April 19, 2016

He was paying attention to her words, digesting what she meant. He at least understood the huge problem with the new packs coming in, and even had a solution to one of the problems. Erm- minor solution. No overhunting seemed reasonable, Krypton nodded her head.

His tone was annoyed, though Krypton couldn't blame him. Having a pack sharing the border wasn't very safe, nor was it very fair since STM was here before they were. She let out a breath before turning to face Mason.

"Perhaps it is best we get to them right away, it wouldn't hurt by any means. Besides, Zaria will be safe with the others staying here to protect her" she said, hopefully erasing any doubts about not protecting the pregnant female.

RE: Houston, we have a problem - Mason - April 25, 2016

Mason allowed a small smile when Krypton verbalised his thoughts – they should go and see them in a diplomatic way (as best as possible). It was perhaps lucky that this was happening right now, as in the future they would have the death of Fitz to deal with. Right now, at least, Mason’s mind was completely on the problem.

“I agree Kryp, I think we should go down and have a chat…” Mason glanced around again, but Steady wasn’t going to magically appear without being called he supposed. They had two options: “We can give Uncle Sted a call, and see if he’s nearby to come with us, or we can just go together. I’m not sure whether we would be better making a stand with a lot of wolves, or if that looks more threatening and like we are going to make trouble?” Mason looked to her for advice, as a guardian, though perhaps he should be making the decision as a Beta.

He hastily added his thoughts: “I think it might be better just us two. You and Uncle Sted are big, and we might look scary if we all go traipsing to the border.” He would listen to her opinion  of cause, but his pride was still smarting from the Neverwinter Forest debacle. He had learnt a lesson.

RE: Houston, we have a problem - RIP Krypton - April 25, 2016

Mason was with her in the idea of going to met these wolves, but he was worried about having three large wolves come along and become too aggressive-looking. She looked at him, happy that he was thinking ahead of the situation. She looked at her paws for a second, thinking.

You are wise to think ahead Mason. I agree, it might be best for just two wolves to go and leave. @Steady and the pack will be able to protect Zaria, but it might be best to fly the idea past him before we leave. I can also stay here if need be. She offered him the idea, and hopefully he would take it.

Krypton was a very cautious woman and wished to take things slowly while being safe. While her alpha was busy, she wished to make sure everything was safe before she would leave to check out the new pack.

RE: Houston, we have a problem - Steady - May 03, 2016

It had been a little while since Steady had heard the call Krypton sent out for the Alpha and co-Beta. He hoped they had time to discuss whether or not to go to their neighbors, and when. He headed in their direction, intending to get in on the conversation, hoping he had given them enough time. He had already told Krypton his opinion, and he assumed she would pass that on to the others.

He approached the duo, noting silently that FitzDutiful wasn't there. Maybe he was tending to his pups and mate. With a wag of his tail in a friendly greeting, he opted himself in to the conversation. Are we talking about our neighbors? he asked. He hadn't really heard any of the talkings, but did assume that was the topic.

RE: Houston, we have a problem - Mason - May 04, 2016

Mason smiled at Krypton. He supposed as Guardian she may prefer to stay and deal with the pack’s defences whilst he went as diplomat. Mason wasn’t sure he felt ready to go down there on his own – after all, he had made a complete pig’s ear of the previous diplomatic relationships in the vicinity.

”I’ll scout around a bit first and then I’ll ask Sted whether he wants to come with me… Do you know what name they’ve taken, or whether they’ve extended beyond the one territory?” He doubted she did, but any information she could even guess at would be helpful.

Steady approached and Mason wagged his tail in greeting and nodded - this would make it easier to determine the best course of action.

RE: Houston, we have a problem - RIP Krypton - May 06, 2016

It appeared that Steady had come at the right time, asking the right question too. She first dipped her head to him in greeting, her tail hanging limp but her eyes soft. She decided to answer his question first. "Yeah, we're thinking about going to meet them soon" she replied calmly.

She turned to Mason to answer his lines of questions too. She had to think for a second, not very familiar with the pack that's next to them. "Scouting would be a good idea, I don't think they've extended their land. Their name is something with winter."

RE: Houston, we have a problem - Steady - May 09, 2016

Indeed, the two had been talking about their neighbors, both agreeing that they should go soon. Do the three of us want to go? he asked, looking between them both, not knowing if Zaria had said anything since he and Krypton had spoken. He hadn't thought that would be too many, considering they hadn't approached the pack at all since they moved in. Steady did surmise, though, that if the pack was aggressive, they most likely would have shown it by now. Their silence could be a positive.

But, they could also be waiting for the most opportune time. Winter was over now, and most wolves didn't want to start a war in crappy weather, when prey was scarce. Spring was upon them now, and packs were gathering their strength. What would that mean for them and their neighbors?

RE: Houston, we have a problem - Mason - May 16, 2016

Mason nodded and thought carefully but couldn’t figure out any other pack which he had heard of which might be this pack. It was worrying that they had descended and ingrained themselves with barely a ripple in the pond.

Suddenly, going against what he had previously suggested, Mason decided that it might be a plan for all three of them to go. As long as they didn’t show aggression he didn’t see why it would be a problem. “I think we should go and see them, yeah.” Mason looked at Krypton. “Do you wanna stay back and keep an eye from a distance? If we get into any trouble you can run back and fetch help or tell Zaria.”

RE: Houston, we have a problem - RIP Krypton - May 16, 2016

Mason had devised a plan that Krypton agreed with silently. Of coarse, one wolf would have to stay back and make sure everything was in order. Besides, the border they shared was super close, and Krypton could easily alert Zaria if any trouble arose. "I'll keep watch" she said, confiming her position.

She offered the young beta a dip of the head in agreement, then looked owards the other. "What do you think Steady?" She asked, wondering what his thoughts were.

RE: Houston, we have a problem - Steady - May 17, 2016

Mason turned to Krypton and suggested that she stay behind in case they had trouble. Steady thought that was a good idea, though he was fairly certain that if the opposing back decided to attack, Zaria would most likely not get to them in time to help, especially if she was at her den protecting the pups. He did not voice his thoughts, however, deciding it was best to keep them to himself.

He nodded when Krypton asked his opinion. I think that's a good idea, he said simply before turning to Mason. I'm hoping there won't be any issues, especially if we're calm and just go to introduce ourselves. It'll be better than going and telling them that we're upset they're there, he advised. No need to let them know how much we don't want them there... At least not yet. He had no idea how large their neighboring pack was, but he did know how small Silvertip Mountain was now. They were in no position to start a war.

RE: Houston, we have a problem - Mason - May 23, 2016

Mason listened to what his Uncle had to say, and agreed with a firm nod. He would ensure that he didn’t get angry like he had at Neverwinter. It was perhaps an easier way for him to learn diplomacy, to go along with his Uncle who was that tad older and that much wiser.

Mason smiled softly. “Thanks Kryp. Shall we head over now then?” Mason took a pace towards the borders, feeling confident with the Guardian at their backs, protecting their interest. For once he didn’t feel like a nervous fledgling.

RE: Houston, we have a problem - RIP Krypton - May 28, 2016

Hearing the plans settled about the meeting, Krypton could only nod her head, signifying she was ready to go. She wanted to see these wolves and get to know them, and maybe even make some sort of alliance or peace treaty. She hated the idea of fighting, but would do anything to protect what was hers and her family's.

Standing up, she looked to the two betas and waited for them to make their move.

Do we want to fade and start a new thread in NWF?

RE: Houston, we have a problem - Steady - May 30, 2016

Everyone was in agreement, and Steady nodded. Yup, let's go, he said, turning to walk with Mason. While he was usually confident in his endeavors, he was a little nervous this time around. He had never confronted another pack before, wanting to know their intentions. However, with Mason at his side, and Krypton having their backs, he was sure things would go well.
