ordinance - Leatherface - March 13, 2014
A single command was snapped before Leatherface's snout, "Stay."
And for hours after that, that single instruction left him seated in the place his brother had left him in. The light had come and gone, and come and gone again, and still he stayed without sleep peering into the darkness for some sign of his sibling's return. The last image stayed murky in his memory, but he could recall the familiar hiss of annoyance as Krueger scented the area, an edge to his own mumblings, and with no other explanation he'd disappeared into the landscape; this in itself was not odd, but if Leatherface had stopped to consider the time he'd taken longer than other times before to come back. It was on the third time that the light went away again, that he felt the sharp pains of hunger shoot through his gut. Remembering the command and what kept him stapled to this single spot, he spent some time whining to himself, reluctant to pull away without his smaller brother's permission. Eventually hunger won out in the end, and in the pursuit of food he'd also found a home. A turn of events that he only somewhat grasped. Instead of listening to his brother, as he had always done, he would listen to another, which made him complacent for the time being. After the brief review of his obligations by his new leader, which Leatherface had taken mostly in silence with a few confirming grunts, he was left to himself. But like he had done before, the departure of his new alpha left him without direction, and he sat still. He was waiting... for something, although he himself did not know what exactly. Perhaps his brother? He was unsure what to think; if his brother did return for him, he felt a small spark of delight but and even darker shade of fear knowing he'd failed to listen. The memory left the large wolf to slide his massive frame slowly to the ground where he huffed, the fatigue of several sleepless days beginning weigh on his consciousness. The sound of someone approaching switched back his attentiveness, his ears pulling forward with interest. When the stranger emerged Leatherface stayed locked in the same place, but his muzzle strained to sniff at her from where he could, trying to acquaint himself with an abundance of excitement and curiosity that would rival that of a newborn pup. He could pick the scent of the new leader upon her coat, his muzzle parting in a smile that soon grew into a pant. It took him a moment to connect as why the scent satisfied him so much, but he then realized he was eager for form familiarity in such a foreign place.
Wagging his tail behind him in greeting his head dipped down a degree. The question came unexpectedly, not use to being spoken directly to Leatherface frozen in his panting, but a moment later his head mimicked the shaking of his bottom. From that, there was not more for him to add, as he'd answered the question; his social skills constructed from a limited palette of understanding and experience. Things such as her name or place in the pack, or her thoughts or skills, did not come to his mind, his own information just a small thought in the back of his head and he just didn't make the connection as to why he should bring them up at this time. It went without expression but Leatherface was silently appreciative of her calmness, having spent the last few days on edge from the lack of company, or rather the sudden disappearance of his brother in particular. Being aware something was missing had played a part in his lost of sleep. Even now, although his initial anxiety had been somewhat tamed it rattled faintly in the confides on his chest, resounding as acknowledge the stranger with a loose stranger accented by heavy blinks of exhaustion.
It is late. His head nodded in agreement. Are you here because you need a place to sleep? He head paused stiffly in his bouncing, taking a moment to himself to pick apart the words. Sleep. Question. Sleep? He pursued the same answer, his muzzle giving a quick and silent: Yes. Not entirely sure that this is where he intended to do so, but knowing that it was something he wanted. In fact his eyes screamed from rest, his body begging to curl up comfortably, and yet he consciously resisted doing so. "Staying." The word came out roughly his voice warped into a high pitch from lack of use, he sounded as though he had to scrape his tongue against his teeth as he spoke just to force out the stressed syllables. He questioned to himself why it was unacceptable to sleep here. Whether the night was clear or wet he wouldn't have found the difference; ground was ground to sleep on and in long months of traveling the most he knew of shelter was when his brother demanded he use his body to shield his smaller form from the elements. Pivoting his ears as he let the thought go and he nodded, finding most of what she said agreeable; as he was inclined to do.
Lifting himself off of the ground onto his feet, his back legs shook with the effort to heave himself up. Clearly his fatigue was showing, but Leatherface barely seemed to acknowledge it, his eyes conveying little as he glanced at the wilderness around them before settling his stare just under the other wolf's chin. Giving his tail another shake as a gesture of his geniality he stepped forward and hovered on his next step waiting for her to continue. From here, he'd willingly follow given her lead. RE: ordinance - Leatherface - March 22, 2014 Leatherface allowed himself to be examined once more, his calm nature leaving him to blink at her plainly with heavy lids. Her departure brought him to a smooth trot behind her. Having been in the presence of only two females ever before, a realization came that she was much larger than them. Was this strange? He didn't question it long if he did at all soon becoming immense in the tracks she left behind. Despite the land lacking familiarity he found comfort in little things such as the rhythm of their steps and the brush of grass against his heels. The announcement was so sudden the whip of distraction from the night served bring him to grimace as he heeded the command and froze in place. Grinding his teeth the scent of food brought his mouth to water and struggled to not simply dive within and rip apart what laid hidden. When the leash was loosen and the allowance given he nearly did just that but halted in place, the mammoth's head swinging away from the entrance to the den to devote to her his attentions. He affirmed the information of her name with a simple blink. "Le--Leaath--err--faace..." RE: ordinance - Xinuata - March 23, 2014
RE: ordinance - Leatherface - March 23, 2014 He wanted to express it was nice to meet her as well, but the words never formed on his tongue and unsurprisingly he expressed it with a simple wag of his tail behind him. Leatherface took a moment to think upon the meaning of her words, it wasn't immediately apparent to him how one could become two and his nose lifted as he scanned the foliage around them one last time. He had no reason to be suspicious, in fact he was far from on edge, feeling relieved at being discovered and grateful for the company but it was curiosity that left him lingering over his shoulder before he turned and retreated within the confines of the den. Folding up his massive frame comfortably the tip of his tail came to brush his muzzle and he lazily blinked off towards the silhouette of Xi'nuata. With each blink his lids grew heavier and it didn't take long at all before he slipped off into slumber. |
