let there be light (den-claiming) - Eve - April 26, 2016 Each day she had travelled, gaining ground and hunting small game. Each day she had hid from wolves she did not know but must surely recognise her scent, revelling in the protection a Pack could bring. And here, there was freedom. The freedom to run and laugh without knowing why - and having to tell everywolf in the vicinity. Nowolf was looking, nowolf was watching; It was horrifyingly intoxicating. But now she had reached the depths of the cavern, the defendable epicentre of the territory. There were stale and fresh scents, concentrated and criss-crossed across this one underground clearing, ringed with stone. Eve noticed a wolf-sized cleft in the rock, and decided to clamber through, for the fun of it. She was speechless. She was in a cave within a cave, a section of roof collapsed. The natural light filtered through brambles, though - impossible to access from the outside without sustaining about a million scratches and thorn gashes.. Eve shuddered. Anyway... She took the time to view her more immediate surroundings. The bubble of a stream ran from the corner and down a groove in the uneven rock bordering the open space. She lapped at the sweet, fresh water, thoughtfully. Perhaps she could set up camp here. She could have privacy, or the Pack could join her. Both prospects swelled her chest with joy and liberty. And pride. Padding away from the rock shelves where the brook flowed, her paws sank into the soft wet dirt. Fresh-scented grass tickled her up to the haunches, whilst a clump of peppermint tickled her senses with its cutting scent. Further investigation downhill proved fruitful - Echinacea for viruses, Chervil for infections, Comfrey for faster healing; This untouched cavern was a veritable treasure trove! But best of all was at the far end of the chamber, the lowest point. The rock that had fell from the roof had come to rest here, creating a dry - albeit chalky - space underneath a jutting overhang. Eve chuffed in delight. It was dusty, and dim, and in a cave, and weird-smelling, and honestly kind of damp - but she didn`t care. She called out, a welcoming bark rather than a howl, to see if anywolf wanted to share or harvest medicine from her new quarters. |
