la vie en rose - Ocracoke - September 16, 2016

It had been a few days since they'd been on the grove and so far had not found any threat to their being there. She'd been given a good chance to relax and rest, able to go the entire day without needing anything for pain. There was still a limp but if rested enough, she could go a little way a normal gait. Now, having walked so far from the grove, the limp was far less subtle. As she moved through a territory unfamiliar to her, uncertain how far she'd really traveled away from where they were staying.

She stood at the entrance of the bypass, easily dwarfed by the rocky mountain terrain on either side. The river that flowed through the grove opened up before her and she pushed herself further until the body of water was at her feet. While she could have drank from the river, Ocra was compelled to drink from a source she had yet to taste. It likely tasted the same, but to be sure she dropped her tongue until she was able to lap at the water and quench her thirst.

RE: la vie en rose - Mojave - September 17, 2016

Mojave's perpetual ranging took her further south this time, even more so than she had ever gone before. A yawn split her features as she started off again for the day, ever curious about what she would find. It had been hard to avoid the allure in following the natural decline of the glacier region into the valley, and once she had wound up there it had been harder still to turn around after a good day's travel. She doubted anyone would notice her being gone a little longer than usual. It wasn't like she was waiting on anyone hand and foot.

As the towering heights of the bypass reached her field of view, she was drawn towards them instantly. They seemed a peculiar set in what was an otherwise varied area, and curiosity often got the best of her. Was it the start of another chain of mountains like the ones she had seen from across the valley? Or were they just random instances that plotted to keep her travels from going much further? She followed the gentle curve of what was likely a narrow creek for the longest time, and then something came up almost unexpectedly. Another wolf.

Too late to change her course to avoid—not that she was keen on avoiding—Mojave called out with a bark.

RE: la vie en rose - Ocracoke - September 17, 2016

Ocra lifted her head, water dripping from her muzzle and she lashed her tongue across her lips to clear her mouth. It filled her belly from the temporary ache of hunger, having been a day or two since her last meal, and she knew she couldn’t hunt in the current state she was in. Earlier that morning she might have been able to take a meal while compromising her shoulder but she wouldn’t have been a burden upon the wolves she’d taken up with.

A bark distracted her from her thoughts and she turned to see another female. Her ears fell back against her head for a moment, pivoting to look for a means of escape—for fighting like this would not be in her favor—but nothing happened right away that would force a need to run off. She lifted her ears then, searching behind the other for other wolves that might be following along for the concern of others chasing them from their possibly temporary home.

The girl barked her greeting in return and waved her tail a few times to indicate sh meant no harm.

RE: la vie en rose - Mojave - September 27, 2016

Like her counterpart, Mojave's gaze scanned the scenery behind her for signs of others. None of such came about and that coupled with the friendliness of the other drew her in easily. After a bit of travel that had been done strictly solo, she would take a little company and a break if she could get it.

"I was starting to think this whole area was deserted," came her gentle voice. "You're the first I've seen in a few hours." Or longer, but who was keeping track? Mojave certainly wasn't.

There appeared to be little to no harm if she hung around with the stranger longer than she originally thought. Perhaps a recruit, if she didn't have a home, or someone she could get information from in order to take it back. Either way, she was able to relax enough that some of the tension eased away from her shoulder. She didn't gave to move to much to show the strange swag in her gait and didn't have to explain what happened (yet) to a total stranger.

"I haven't seen anyone lately, either," she offered. "I'm Ocra. I've settled with some wolves south west of here," she explained, hoping to at least get some preliminaries out of the way to better sort where she might take the conversation next,
