Minerals are needed - Atna - December 27, 2016 As the lead mare Atna was deciding now that she was going more towards the mountain side. The female needed her minerals and she was pretty sure that the others needed their minerals too. She checked if everyone was there so they could head out. Mostly if her colt was around. She disliked if he roamed too far from the herd. Tseax was her first born after all and Atna was a very dedicated and protective mother even with him becoming older she still thought of him as her little boy. She snorted loudly, and checked their surroundings. Not many of those predators had shown up and hunted them. Perhaps they had chosen a nice area to settle. She looked at a few of the other mares, some still gazing and others being more attentive. RE: Minerals are needed - Nechako - December 27, 2016

The stallion followed behind the band in the defensive position; alongside him was @Skoonka. While the lord of this harem was not afraid of any wolves, he knew of the worries carried by his wives and children, so when Atna chose to head for the mountains he was all for it. It would give them all a chance to explore, which was something Nechako thoroughly enjoyed to do. He kept to the rear, watching his family, but most importantly he kept tabs on Skoonka while they marched.

RE: Minerals are needed - Tseax - December 28, 2016 Tseax pranced over to his mother, his steps still carrying the jaunty playfulness of a foal though he was a yearling now, nickering softly he snuffles his mother's nose in greeting. He knew his mother worried about him but what she didn't know was that he intended on being her protected, along with his father of course. Speaking of his role Model, he cast a glance around spotting the large stallion with ease. He approached him hesitantly whinnying softly, for even though he was the child of this stallion he still had to show the proper respect. RE: Minerals are needed - Xchinook - December 29, 2016 It had taken the palomino several weeks, since she and Ketsuk had been separated, to find tracks of horses, but she had followed them stubbornly. The tracks had been old and had had little to no scent with them by the time she'd come upon them, but there was no mistaking the pattern on the ground. Fortune had been with her as the snow fell, and those tracks in the earth had turned to tracks in the snow, bearing just a hint of scent to tell her she was getting closer, and that the least imaginable thing had happened- but she couldn't quite believe it yet. Surely her senses were deceiving her, but every step that brought her closer to those of her own kind carried her closer to the assumption that yes, she did indeed know these scents. She halted when she crossed a set of hoofprints- they belonged to a stallion, and the scent made her catch her breath- Nechako. He was in the area, then, but not with the others she had caught wind of earlier. She felt reassured, knowing that she was not only in the same area as other horses, but close to those she knew, though she altered her course and followed along his tracks, knowing that they would lead her right where she wanted to go- straight to the herd. She halted as she neared the edge of an open range, and peered out, to see several equine forms contrast against the snow, two of which were easily recognizable, and the image of a little one, not yet a yearling, close to the lead's side warmed her heart. Leading the band was none other than Atna, and at the rear of the group, Nechako. Wary of what kind of greeting she might get, she lingered near the woodline and whickered loudly enough to catch their attention, and flicked her keen ears forward. RE: Minerals are needed - Atna - December 31, 2016 Anta nosed her son back while walking further. She was very fond of her young boy, though soon he would not be a boy anymore, but a real teenager. Atna was pleased to see that he still had the proper respect for his father. She didn't want Nechako to kick him out at this age. Sometimes it did happen when a colt was really dominant. Anta wondered if their lead stallion was going to kick out his son or not. A worry for later. Her ears flickered as she kept on walking. As she did suddenly heard a call for them. Atna was instantly alert. Her head raised and nostrils flared. She recognized that whinny instantly. She responded loudly. Could this be Chinook? After she left with Nechako Atna was pretty sure she would never see her again. Though it seemed their paths crossed after all. "It is my sister!," she explained to the herd, and mostly to calm down Nechako. She never really thought of her as a half sister because they did grow up together. She started to gallop in Chinook's direction. Though she was pretty sure that the stallion was keen on greeting this new mare. Besides Atna didn't have the fastest gallop of the herd with her bulging sides. RE: Minerals are needed - Nechako - December 31, 2016

Although he was unsure of @Skoonka, it was good to have the added strength of another stallion among their tiny harem. Perhaps their future children would run together? Nechako thought of this without speaking it; he would benefit from the addition of Skoonka's blood, at least for his size and strength, although the stallion's temperment was questionable. While Nechako plotted, he reached for Skoonka and gave him a playful nip to the hindquarters - perhaps to instigate a race. Yet there was a call upon the wind, and then Atna was halting their progress. Nechako's gait remained constant, and he rounded upon her position just as she let loose with a gallop — and in seeing her fat sides jiggling, he snorted. Who had called? It was not a voice he remembered, but much had happened since his escape from the Blackwater River herd. It irritated him that Atna would so casually abandon her post as the lead mare to chase this voice — and so he chased her, slowing only when he caught sight of the two mares together.

RE: Minerals are needed - Tseax - January 16, 2017 A call sounded from behind the herd, and his ears flickered as he turned to look for whoever made the call. His attention was suddenly turned to his mother as she explained that this mare was her sister, his aunt. Watching as Atna galloped away to meet her sister, he pawed at the ground with his hoof nervous about how his father would react to this sudden abandonment of her post. Snorting softly as his father took off after Atna, he remained behind to watch over the herd. |
