Leave my sunglasses on while I shed a tear - Seff - December 28, 2016 they had travelled far, the ragtag group, farther south than he had ever been. This freedom, traveling with his closest friend and their small group together, had been exhilarating, yet not without its share of hardship. Still the the image of his mother disappearing into the land of the brotherhood, the feeling that he had somehow made ill on his promise to make her proud, haunted him and was like a crushing weight on his chest. The bitter feeling of failure followed him, and a thousand what-ifs constantly tugged at his mind. What if he had stayed? And what if Vuk had come with them? And the one that caused his chest to constrict, what if he never saw his mother again? But he could hardly bear for that to come true, that nagging what if, and he would have to visit. He simply had to see her again, make sure that she was alright. Because, he was coming to realize, he did not know if she had ever been truly happy, the way he was with Freyja when his worries left him for a while. And what, he wondered, if he was the cause? such thoughts, however, were shoved aside forcefully as he glanced back at those he now travelled with. The sky had retained a bloodless shade throughout the day, the air a sharp cold that seemed to cut down to his bones. Travel had been slow, the blowing winds and stinging pellets of snow slowing them to but a snail’s pace. The landscape was harsh, unforgiving, the sharp green of coniferous branches the only color in a land painted with shades of grey. The sky was growing dark, evening upon them, and the boy glanced skyward, concern ringing his features. He knew of plants, of travel, of healing and more. But naught of weather. He ought to have learned. It was hard to tell exactly when the soft, sparse flurries became a thick veil blurring the world, when the winds begun to scream and the snow made travel simply to precarious to continue onward. The boy turned, searching for his silver-coated companion, he, painted in shades of golden tawny, was significantly easier to find in the snow then she. He blinked rapidly as snow drove fearsomely against his optics, stilling his paws and moving closer to Freyja. He looked to her with concern, for he knew not how sever the storm would get, having never been in the midst of a fierce blizzard himself. "We need to find shelter." He told her, raising his voice above the winds, for hardly could he think of a better course of action at the moment. RE: Leave my sunglasses on while I shed a tear - Freyja - December 28, 2016 They were traversing further from her homelands, drawing further South than she had ever imagined possible. In their travels, Freyja was quickly learning that prey was not as plentiful. Despite her qualifications, tracking and seeking prey was proving to be much more difficult. As a result, Freyja was beginning to feel significantly weakened by it all and finding it even harder to keep it. Despite the sickening gurgle in the pit of her stomach, she kept pace with Seff and Hvitserk. Her hunger was paired dreadfully with her own regrets on the matter. In addition to her hunger, she felt troubled by all that happened to them. Should she and Hvitserk have went to find the Heda? Did Drageda even exist at this point? She did not have answers for either of these questions. As a member that had been so deeply embedded in the culture of her former pack-- blind to all that the world beyond had to offer, it felt odd to be away from it so long. Though she was chasing what she had felt in that moment, namely her affections for the ocean-eyed boy and the taste of the open road, she was finding herself lost in her own thoughts. Even if it didn’t feel right, and even if she felt some regrets, she ultimately knew that she belonged at Seff’s side. He had taught her so much about the world, or traveling, and all of these were lessons that would stick with her, always. Tipping unsteadily along the snowy terrain, they travels were slowed considerably. A mighty wind rippled from the north bringing in more unfavorable conditions. As Seff looked skyward, she did the same with a deep frown. There was no good that could have been brought from this. Turning to her companion as he spoke, she nodded quickly in agreement. Helplessly, her eyes darted around in an attempt to see where they could find shelter, but the blizzard was coming upon them quickly and soon it would snow to the point that there would be a whiteout. She whined at this, squinting as she looked to Seff. “Do you see anywhere we could hide?” she asked, raising her voice to sound above the strengthening roar of the storm. RE: Leave my sunglasses on while I shed a tear - Seff - January 18, 2017 "there" he said, then repeated it louder in order to be heard over the screaming wraith of the snowstorm. a faint touch of colour had caught his gaze, and the green had to belong to an evergreen. perhaps, they could find refuge under it's limbs. he gestured toward it, though was not sure if the movement would even be of any help in their current situation. he pulled forward, staying close to the others and guiding them, slowly and precariously, through the snow, until after a few moments, the green loomed. to his relief, it was in fact an evergreen, though a small one, and it's branches were not as dense as he would have liked. Never the less, it was all they had, and he dipped below the cavity close to the trunk, quivering with cold and trying his best not to. He curled in one himself, looking to Freyja and Hvitserk worriedly, hoping that they would all fit. cold still slipped through his pelt, and they were hardly safe from the elements, but the branches did put a damper on the snow. Though, as the storm ever increased in might, how long their half-hearted shelter would do anything at all remained to be seen. |
