Aquamarine - Portia - March 16, 2017

fun fact! aquamarine is march's birthstone. (: dated for tomorrow (march 17th, st. patties!) @Sirio @Dalia welcome to this weird family <3

she was fat-- so fat she was ready to burst. she was ready too, this pregnancy was so uncomfortable and the babies also made it very clear that they were ready to be free. it was today that one of the pups got particularly antsy and gave a sharp kick, forcing a loud, breathy oof  from her chest. her teeth clenched and she gave a soft whine. "god damnit," she huffed, shutting her eyes for a moment. this was it, today was the day, these little bundles of hate joy were ready to come out.

if @Dio was anywhere nearby she chased him out. just as she suspected, she didn't want him nearby. something instinctual just wanted him gone-- but she also (on a much more basic level) just didn't want him to see her so disheveled. she called for @Wildfire though, who she felt should see the whole process. while she wanted this whole space to herself, she needed someone here to do what she couldn't do-- she could coach her through some of it and wildfire could maybe learn something firsthand for her own labor.

it took a while, naturally, but with lots of time and effort and a whole lot of pain, portia managed to push two tiny little balls of fur out. the first one was a boy, tan like his father. he was precious, and portia struggled to find words to explain to wildfire how precious he was, and instead just nudged him close. the second was a little girl, pale white with only the smallest amount of gray on her shoulders and back. it was even harder to express how happy she was. instead, she just nudged her close as well and licked them furiously, exhausted but beyond thrilled that they were finally here and finally hers.

she called dio back in, assuming he was just waiting outside, and showed him to the two babies. her tail tapped against the floor and she looked up at him with bright green eyes that just sort of said 'we made these.'

RE: Aquamarine - Wildfire - March 16, 2017

Wildfire was having trouble keeping her eyes open as Portia labored. She was delirious with exhaustion, her own sides ballooned out to comical proportions. Yet she refused to let herself sleep (aside from the inevitable micro-nap here and there), keeping vigil at her sister wife's proverbial bedside. For the most part, she stayed quiet, though Wildfire threw out the occasional encouraging, "You got this, Portia."

The jealousy was real when Portia proved her right by delivering two beautiful, perfect babies: a boy and a girl. "Exactly what you wanted," Wildfire murmured, eyes starry. "Congrats!" She watched enviously as the new mother cuddled her pups, though she knew her time was coming. Soon. Wildfire smiled broadly, genuinely happy for her friend despite her quiet envy.

When Portia summoned Dio, Wildfire wriggled out of the way, collapsing like a beached whale near the den's entrance. She was prepared to be dismissed if the new family wanted privacy. "Congratulations," she repeated to the proud new papa. She glanced at his face, then Wildfire's chestnut eyes fell to the tiny, squirming bundles of joy, wishing so badly to touch them but knowing she must be patient and respectful. Soon, she thought again, already dreaming of snuggling her own children.

RE: Aquamarine - Dio - March 17, 2017

Ears pulled down and tail tucked tight against his underside, he was his most obedient before a very pregnant Portia ready to breath hellfire upon him should he not heed her. Dio got up and moving fast, no questions asked about that. He had a good idea this was coming since he'd had a lot of time to anticipate it lately. Nonetheless, he had never been allowed near a birth and didn't need there to be a first time for that. The wocha made himself scarce. Once the initial start of her shooing him out of his typical watchful lounging wore away, he centered himself a handful of meters away. Wildfire was her next request and while watching the bandrona slip by, her sides rounded out ridiculously too, he knew that this was about to move forward and their litter was very, very close.

A deep breath and some pacing aside, he settled as a stone faced sentinel near his mate's birthing den and hoped, prayed, and willed for her to get through this okay in any way he could as he watched the wilds for any sign of disturbance. He was worried for all the reasons he could be but excitement trickled in through the cracks even with the uncharacteristic nervous knot in his stomach. Not his first time in a position like this one, but by far and wide, the one he had the most personally attachment to already as his and Portia's little family's first.

His ears were peeled for signs of distress and time ticked by painfully slow, moment by agonizing moment. None came, and all was quiet here in the outside world too.

After so long, Dio perked up to Portia inviting him back. Without seeing the pups or knowing a thing about them, his tail was waving and he was reaching towards her muzzle for soft, happy licks — although there was a tender tentativeness to the gesture just in case he was still on thin ice for putting her through what she'd just endured. He was glad she was alright. Probably exhausted, although nothing about sight of her did anything besides warm his heart. She'd done it, and the relief was overwhelmingly evident in the murmurs of affection while he carefully adjusted himself in the den to be right next to Portia. He next balked at Wildfire's well wishes, suddenly remembering she'd been here to witness it all. "Thanks," he said, wide-eyed along a big breath in. His mate the deserved all the kudos, of course, and he didn't have words to encompass the full lengths of that yet.

It was sight of the puppies that stilled and quieted him entirely at once. Two shapes, soft, and with lighter shades about them besides a few faint speckles on the tinier of the pair — one male, one female, he realized soon enough. So, so very small yet seemingly solidly built as well as he could tell, having everything a tiny blot of a wolf could need. He had never seen little ones so young and fresh.

Dio moved to them each in turn with a featherlight touch of his snout and proud curve of his lips when his tail picked up a new rhythm.  Finally, they were very tangible, and very, remarkably real. He sniffed generously at the duo and marveled. "Hope they were good to you getting here," he warned gently, lifting himself enough to nose Portia again because without her, he would have none of this so making sure she was alright was priority. However it was hard to take his eyes off them, even if there was not too much to see at first glance; he was confident he would see more. This had only begun to sink in. "So glad they're finally here. They're.. so tiny. Precious little perfect things.." he said fondly, settling around the two to take them in more and decide what to come to know them as next.
HI BABIES. WELCOME

RE: Aquamarine - Sirio - March 17, 2017

Mute, deaf and blind did the little boy enter the world - in early spring, ready to see the world light up with warm beams of sunshine whenever he was older and, perhaps, wiser. He had not waited for the moment to be born - had not thought about anything but sleeping, if one would call it that yet. He could hardly think, his brain simply too young to process anything but mother's warmth and the sensation of her rubbing him dry and clean. It was all he needed - all he could ask for in such a vulnerable state. Safety - protection and love.

As soon as he was settled at her belly did the boy's head go out of its way to find a teat. It took him but a few seconds, latching onto it without a pardon as his sister was also brought into the world. Soon, he would acknowledge her presence, but for now there was only him and the taste of sweet milk - innocent and pure to the core.

RE: Aquamarine - Dalia - March 17, 2017

it was a bit rough for her to leave the warmth of her mother's womb, she didn't want to leave. it kept her warm, nourished her, protected her-- who could possibly want more than that? dalia lacked the strength to argue and could only just go with the flow, literally. the cherub descended gently from her little cloud of protection towards the earth run by heathens and demons. white fur was tarnished with a backing of grey touched the ground softly as a soft cry of surprise escaped her small jaw. like a shuttle landing on a new moon, the small child had made her first contact with the ground and the world around her.

quickly, just based on her instinct, the looked for her mother through her sense of touch, though she would run into another pudgy thing that was alike her, her brother whom she had yet to see.  she didn't think much though, she couldn't really think much even if she wanted to. instead, she let the sense of touch speak for her, along with the small cries that left her delicate lips, she felt her mother's tongue gently lick her clean before the large mass settled down beside her and her brother. gently, after following her mother's guidance, dalia latched onto a teat and began to drink up the milk. she was content, quietly eating next to her brother. she didn't even sense that others were present, including her own father.

RE: Aquamarine - Portia - March 18, 2017

should wildfire return, the fisa would have no qualms. if anything, she deserved to be here-- she was practically an aunt, or a step-mom, or... well, she was something to them. a godmother, if anything, portia would have to talk to her about that. still so thankful dio was here, she licked at his cheeks as he came to nose her, pressing her cheek against his. together they stared at the two little pups, the girls cries quieting as she moved to suckle. the sound was so sweet, portia almost started crying herself.

it was, however, dio's comments that sent her over the edge. yes, she thought with pride, they are so precious, so perfect. she couldn't form the words though, and instead tears just welled in her eyes and her tail tapped against the ground. this was so wonderful. so, so, wonderful. she was so happy-- the happiest she had ever felt. mentally, she stored this image somewhere in the back of her mind, it was something she would never, ever, forget.

after a while of staring, she finally pushed through enough of her shock and awe to speak. "you said that... your other children had -io in their names," she commented, taking a glance at her mate, "what about... sirio, for the boy?" the name made sense to her, and she hoped dio liked it.

RE: Aquamarine - Dio - March 21, 2017

He was loathe to disturb the peaceful, quiet moment unlike any other. Down to his measured breaths, it all felt to delicate yet at the same time, the most absolute fact of his life here and now. It was just so easy enough to simply watch, take them in, and greedily memorize every little piece of them he could. Love, and relief, seemed to reign.

Portia's voice perked his ears again and her thoughts served as a good focus to his, enough to make him zero in on the cream boy's diminutive shoulders. He'd seen sons of his before, his coat tended to stamp.. or so this lead him to really suspect. He'll look a lot like me. As he liked to think. "I like it," he agreed after a thoughtful pause spent peering downward in awe. And, in that case: "What about something with an -ia in it for her?" he suggested, plucking the end of her name and looking for one with a similar rhythm about it somehow. His mate had surely once gone through flowers and gemstones and whatever else there was out there in this great wide world she'd collected knowledge on and he couldn't even remember the half of them here and now on the spot. He tried best he could. "Hm. Something sweet, but distinct... her little grey is.." He made a fondly frustrated face at her as he thought out loud: too cute, and protect them forever.

Which.. nosing Portia again, he didn't want to distract but this was so overwhelming that a lot came to mind all at once. "Do you need anything..?" Goddamn.. he could only imagine, yet did not know where to begin when it came to her needs and wants fresh from two moons of pregnancy then birth. He'd hate to leave this spot in time, but if he could he'd do it for her. He only needed some guidance if that was true.

RE: Aquamarine - Portia - March 31, 2017

her tail tapped the ground, but softly not to disturb the sleeping pups. ironic that they were so exhausted, what'd they do to tucker themselves out? portia didn't think they truly deserved the nap, instead believing that she deserved the nap... but they were so precious. how could she deny them everything they'd ever wanted? if they wanted to nap then-- god damnit-- she would let them.

the -ia that dio mentioned almost made her cry-- again. she'd honestly never thought about passing part of her name down to her daughters. she turned her head, for once, away from the children to look at dio with a tight smile. "dalia," she said softly, smiling still. it was a plant term, though she wasn't sure dio would know what it meant. it was pretty though, soft and sweet like she was.

portia didn't really notice that she'd completely dominated the names. the fisa had been humbled upon joining drageda, but she still loved having her way-- and this just subtly showed that. "they're little pieces of us," she commented, quite happily, "little i-o's and little i'a's."

RE: Aquamarine - Dio - April 14, 2017

Everything settled so neatly into place, amazingly so and enough to leave him reeling quietly. "Dalia." he tested so-oh-gently, then nodded in the next second: yes. He liked it, no, loved it, and eyed the two little fuzzy bodies with a brand new appreciation, and something else to begin to know them by--as if sight, scent, and sensation weren't enough for him. He'd greedily take it all but his heart felt so full he thought it impossible. Sirio and Dalia, and indeed, looking at them, Portia was exactly right: two little yet very distinct bits of them both, all wrapped neatly together somehow. "Perfect," he said once more with a glad everything about him. This, everything right here and now, was everything he thought he could need. She'd done so well by him, he barely felt deserving of the two perfect little wolf-beans right there tucked sweetly at his mate's side, but he only hoped they could grow up well and healthy with him as their father.

He didn't have anything better to say except some fond murmurings of love and about how precious this moment was here as he curled happily around them all. Overcome, he beamed at them all for a while, and willed Portia to get some rest soon.
