Once again, she was alone. Cuicatl had left the pack behind, finding herself preferring silence over the horribly accented words of the gringos. Of course, she knew that they had been trying their best for which she had to give them credit. But there was something in her that felt almost insulted by the way that they butchered her words with their inexperienced tongues. Now that she had time to spare, Cuicatl thought it was a bright idea to wander about in this unfamiliar corner of the world.
As she marched through the burned embers of the wood, Cuicatl wondered about the wolves who must have lived here before it fell to destruction. It made her think of her own home, her real home, and if her family still thrived in the heat.
