The coyotes had been chased out or exterminated, which, due to Athan's short sightedness, removed his constant blood supply from him. Athan knew that he couldn't have gorged himself so quickly, but after the utter absence of food during the winter, he could not help himself. The strigoi licked his lips absently, scanning the surrounding landscape for any sign of movement, be it wolf or coyote or any other animal. His stomach growled, no, gnawed at his insides, demanding the liquid gold that only living creatures produced. He would find it somehow.
