stop i could've dropped my croissant - Rose - January 07, 2018

She had not left the safety of Drageda since her arrival, partly because she didn’t want to and partly because she felt it had been too early to go meandering around. Even now she was a bit nervous as she slipped from the borders, feeling as if she was committing a crime by leaving her duties behind for the day. But she wished for an evening of solitude and a trip down to the beach seemed like a decent getaway (plus she was lowkey afraid everyone died in the war and she wanted to avoid facing her fears so here we are).

Guilt tugged at her while she walked, fully aware that she should be helping back at the territory instead of slacking, especially with their main defenses gone. But then again Rose wasn’t much against an intruder and her being there would make little difference in the grand scheme of things. They still had Ajatar and Arrille (at least that’s what Rose thought) and both seemed more than capable of stopping any who threatened their claim, so without further thought on the matter, Rose continued on her trip and didn’t bother to look back.

As she neared the shores and felt the familiar breeze of sea blow by, the russet yearling took notice of a few things. Her nose and eyes no longer burned from the salty air and the once revolting stench of the sea was now comforting. She let out a huff, paws leaving prints in the sand while she sauntered across the coastline. The scent of wolves didn’t go unnoticed either, and where she would normally go out of her way to avoid confrontation, Rose instead felt the pressing need to investigate with it being so close to Drageda. She momentarily wondered if it was the Blackfeather wolves rallying for an ambush, but she quickly pushed the thought to the back of her mind and continued to walk, nose and eyes alert of any sign of life.

RE: stop i could've dropped my croissant - Nyx - January 09, 2018

She had no ties to Ankyra Sound, nor had she crossed paths with the brothers again, yet still Nyx remained. With Ingram's comment that they'd come from beyond the Northern cliffs and seen nothing, the golden Ostrega was loathe to travel any further. Not particularly wishing to turn back or venture inland to face the worse of the snows again, she supposed the brothers' birthplace by the sea was her best chance at surviving the Winter.

She trailed the length of the beach, bright eyes alert for any sign of the black and white duo who she was certain were still hanging around, when she spotted an unfamiliar figure. Lifting her raven-tipped crown, Nyx observed the other wolfess' meandering pace as she wandered across the sand and in her direction. With a twitch of her nose, the tawny loner continued toward her with the intention of getting a better look at her, and perhaps dig for more information on the area should she wish to engage her in conversation.

The stranger bore a pelt of hot russet, highlighted in areas with fiery gingers and rust. Among the bold red of the girl's fine features were a pair of gentle azure eyes, alert and seemingly searching. With some distance between them, the agouti she-wolf paused in her tracks to allow her potential new acquaintance to make the decision to approach or not.

RE: stop i could've dropped my croissant - Rose - January 12, 2018

She continued along the shoreline, briefly teetering on the edge of the forest before pulling away to stroll towards the sea. A piece of seaweed caught her attention and Rose quickly moved to grab it before the ocean stole it from her reach. Not a moment later and a faint silhouette in the distance was steadily approaching, making Rose stop for a moment to decide whether or not they were friend or foe. The stranger possessed no sign of hostility and seemingly left the option up to the kru to determine if they would engage in conversation or not. An anxious twitch found itself to the russet girl’s tail and after a moment of thought, Rose swept forward to close the distance between the two.

“You wouldn’t happen to be staying here?” she asked directly, placing the seaweed she had snatched earlier on the ground. The woman smelt of the sea and Rose’s eyes were hopeful as she waited for an answer. Perhaps if she didn’t reside here herself than she’d know someone who did, or at least have an idea as to what the wolves here wanted.

RE: stop i could've dropped my croissant - Caiaphas - January 14, 2018

caiaphas had not missed the attention the luschyon duo paid to the borders. everywhere evidence of their passing was present -- every stone rubbed upon, every bush bearing their scent. the perimeter of their territory had been carefully attended to, and all around them was the unmistakable sign of pack settlement. so when she saw a stranger openly defy these signs and march boldly on what was claimed land, it set her little teeth on edge. the wolf was distinctly not of their clan -- it was neither her most recently adopted boy, nor either of the tow-headed brood from lusca's blood. it was easy to piece together that this wolf was neither of the females the rag-tag luschyon boys had managed to convert -- and it was certainly not @Kierkegaard nor any flotsam he had managed to drag in.

she approached from behind and kept a fair distance, her eyes settling on the interloper with a crippling glare. she would wait to see how nyx elected to handle this trespasser, but if one thing was certain it was that caiaphas had no intention of letting this little border-hopper leave.

RE: stop i could've dropped my croissant - Wylla - January 14, 2018

Wylla hadn't been in the Sound for very long—a day and a night, at most—but already she could see the many signs of settlement. She could smell her brothers through the whole of the territory, and a small host of others as well. As a cool breeze rose in off the sea, Wylla inhaled the bracing salt air and felt, for the first time in a while, at ease. She hadn't known she was missing the coast until she got there, and she hadn't known how lost she was without her brother—brothers, she reminded herself—until she'd found him.

As she drifted across the strand, her eyes clapped on the loitering figures of two wolves—one of them she mistook for Sandpiper, and with a ruffle of her hackles, the affronted she-wolf picked up her pace. It wasn't until she was closer and could make out the clear blue of Rose's eyes that she slowed, realized her mistake, and came to stand neutrally near to Nyx's left hip just as another wolf broke onto the scene with a much more severe air about her.

Wylla had no memories of Caiaphas but she had been told by Lusca about "Bleckface", the wicked witch of the coast, and unless there was a doppelganger about, it was impossible to mistake the woman who had apparently stolen their brother. Wylla's black ears stiffened atop her head as she stood by to watch events unfold, all the while keeping her bright yellow eyes glued to the former siren queen, thought she tilted her snout in Nyx's direction and mumbled, "what's all the hubbub?"

Wylla's mostly here to meet Nyx and Caiaphas if I'm being honest, she's probably too self-serving to do much to Rose.

RE: stop i could've dropped my croissant - Nyx - January 16, 2018

When Nyx had arrived at Ankyra Sound, the coast had been a barren, uninhabited place. The scents of others had of course been noted; some remained and some passed through, though she could hardly tell that a pack had been established. Neither Lycaon or his brother had sought her out to discuss the finer details; as far as she knew, it was simply her and them to reside on the beach. There had been no talk of intention to claim the strand, and no request for her long-term loyalty. Still, she was safe to say "yes," when the russet wolfess moved in closer to ask of her status, and just as Nyx prepared to elaborate, an unfamiliar creature slunk onto the scene.

She heard her before she saw her, canting a raven lobe in the masked female's direction before turning her proud head to look upon her with a cool, neutral gaze. Studying her in silence, Nyx took note of her sharpened features and larger-than-normal ears, concluding then and there that this frosty stranger was not pure wolf. The tawny Ostrega continued to watch without making a move until the hybrid paused a short distance away, pointing her fierce judging yellow eyes only on the fiery-pelted yearling. This was a curious thing, she mused, for Nyx still considered herself very much a loner; surely she, too, should've fallen victim to the coywolf's bitter glare.

She supposed there could be a number of reasons for this passover: the boys had shared her name and discription, the fact that she'd been around long enough to smell strongly of the sea and its surrounding land, or it had been simply assumed that Nyx was one of them. Content that the sour-looking crossbreed wasn't going to attack her from behind, the tawny Ostrega made to turn back to the crimson yearling when she spotted yet another figure make their way toward them.

For fuck's sake, she nearly muttered, and chuffed to the lean female who approached with significantly less hostility. Nyx didn't know her, but there was something oddly familiar about her that reminded her of Ingram. She had his electric eyes, she noted, but could not recall either of the brothers mentioning that they had another sibling. Casting the thought aside for a later date, Nyx focused instead on the moment and rolled a sable shoulder at the slender wolfess' question. "No hubbub," she responded boldly with a hint of a smile - eagerness to maintain peace despite the tension that loomed over them with a toxic glower boring into their backs, "she asked if I lived here. No harm done."

RE: stop i could've dropped my croissant - Rose - January 16, 2018

Rose’s ears flickered forward at the stranger’s answer, brow raising slightly as she waited for a more descriptive reasoning as to why there seemed to be settlement within the grove. But just as the woman parted her lips to speak, an unknown figure drew her attention elsewhere. The kru’s gaze fell to the lanky coywolf as well, eyes narrowing as she tried to take in the finer details of the siren’s pelt. It was unimpressive to say the least, though the cold glare of her flaxen eyes spoke a much louder threat to the russet kru. Rose adjusted herself under the hardened gaze and wondered what she had done to deserve such hostility. As far as she was concerned this land was free to roam, not to mention it was practically the backyard of Drageda. She assumed it was common knowledge that you don’t set up shop right next to an already strong and established pack but, who knows, for all she knew that unspoken ruled had flown out the window during her time away from the wilds.

She licked her lips before returning her attention to the wanderer, ready to continue where the short-lived conversation had let off. However the pair was cut off once again, this time by a more youthful and welcoming presence. Rose let her tail swish gently behind her, not looking to put herself in a situation where’d she become victim to any of their fangs. “The pack I’m with resides on the cliffs just over there” she announced, muzzle motioning in the direction of Drageda. She hoped the newly revealed information would help encourage the pair to share any details they had on the group here, as well as to shed some light on just how close they were to Drageda.

RE: stop i could've dropped my croissant - Caiaphas - January 16, 2018

i thought long and hard about this... but this is 100% faithful to what caiaphas would do. we can do dice rolls if you want. i'll start a thread in the OOC forum. edit: holy hannah, spelling errors. fixed!

caiaphas was still roiling from this wolf's clear indolence -- there was only one way to access the shore -- and that was through sequoia forest. sequoia forest that for a month, had been heavily marked upon. that the wolf felt a pressing need to investigate was irrelevant to caiaphas' judgment; she had forfeited her life the moment she showed up on their patrolled strand.

she watched the exchange between the agouti and the russet outsider, her attention still unfavorably on the interloper. when another wolf -- distinctly the child lusca had purloined from caiaphas' loving claws -- approached, she hailed her with a wave of her tail but said nothing. it panged her in a way to see wylla -- but if wylla was to lead, she was to witness what leaders did when their borders were defied.

caiaphas would not have known it was common knowledge to not set up shop next to another pack -- in the wild (and she was arguably wild) wolf territories bordered each other. never once had caiaphas been concerned drageda's presence would impose their progress -- for good reason -- the massive cliffs were inpenetrable, sheer faces and ankyra was bordered by them. unless drageda had bungie-cords made of braided kelp and seaweed, the siren saw no feasible way they could have countered their claim. she had ruled ankyra territory on three separate occasions and knew the strand well; as far as the sylph was rightly or wrongly concerned, the beach belonged to her and her brood alone.

"i know where you're from. drageda." she stepped forward, a sneer plastered across her ugly muzzle. "and it looks to me that you have a nose, don't you?" her voice was honeyed, but vehemently ingenuine. "funny thing, about that nose -- i bet it works -- and with a nose that works, you would have noticed all the markings on the border? in the forest?" she blinked innocently, another predatory step taken in rose's direction.

"and yet you trespassed anyway." the siren queen shook her head admonishingly, as if disappointed in the russet female. "seems to me either, you don't care for fostering healthy relationships with another pack, or your nose broke." she drew her gaze along rose's nose. nope, perfectly functional -- the yearling was just feckless and heedless of consequence.

now she was but five feet from the drageda wolf, and she drank of rose's scent and smiled a rueful, cruel smile that showed clearly the impressive arsenal of rapier-like teeth she harbored. she glanced at the cliffs and continued: "you know what happens to trespassers in your pack. coincidentally, that's also what happens in mine." her last few words ended in a snarl -- and no sooner had their venomous tone hit the air was caiaphas in motion.

the sylph was not a master warrior by accident; with a slash of her paw she upturned the sand at her feet in rose's direction, sending a long, gravelly wave aimed directly for rose's muzzle in the hopes to stun and blind her. caiaphas did not wait to witness the result of her actions: she surged forward, wicked jaws parted wide and aiming directly for the point of neck that sat immediately behind the jaw. control this area of the wolf, and one controlled the outcome of battle -- with rose's attention likely on the sand (and possibly blinded and unable to see caiaphas' onslaught) caiaphas was sure her accuracy would prevail - she threw the entire of her weight behind her, and kept her muzzle low for maximum momentum and protection. the sireen queen took into account any duck or leap backwards the wolf was liable to make -- and if caiaphas made contact, she would wrench her entire body in an effort to savage the female's neck and scruff.

there was no hesitation in the sylph's onslaught. she worked with a keening, barbaric efficiency -- a wildling thing well acquainted to the graft of violence.

RE: stop i could've dropped my croissant - Wylla - January 16, 2018

No hubbub. That wasn't what it looked like, but Wylla said nothing more on the subject. She cast the tawny-and-beige she-wolf a long look that lingered on the conspicuous white V splashed across her chest, similar in shape to the black V that adorned her own face, and momentarily took her cues from Nyx. Ingram had established that they were claiming the sound and elected her as the to-be leader of it, a title that felt rather unwieldy and troublesome at present, but beyond that they hadn't discussed the pack much. For that reason, Wylla didn't know how relaxed or territorial they were; while it bothered her on some level to see an obvious stranger on their beach, she assumed for a hot second that this was something they were allowing to happen.

She was swiftly corrected in the next second when Caiaphas swept toward the intruder, loosed a barrage of sweet, sweet sass that far outshone any of Wylla's best efforts at being snarky, and then promptly attacked her. Wylla's face morphed from hey this is interesting, huh Nyx? to woah that happened fast to burn the witch and finally settled on well maybe you should do something, so-called leader, and she took several steps forward to watch, cautious to keep out of range of the tussling wolves. Based on Caiaphas' reaction to Rose's presence, they were not very relaxed about intruders, and as the wolf who had claimed the sound in the past, the sea witch knew best. Wylla didn't trust her one smidgen but she took her cues nonetheless.

"Seems to me you think we care about your pack," she coolly surmised, "buuuut, well, we don't. There's a wall several hundred feet high between you and us. I'm sure you have a good reason why you didn't notice that either. But I don't mean to be rude... You and yours are always welcome to hop on over it and pay us a visit, we don't mind." There was only one way that attempting to scale a sheer rock wall would end. "Looks like you made a boo-boo, though, and now you'll be staying here with us. That sounds pretty fun, huh?" For the time being she made no move to get involved physically; Wylla cared more about her own skin than Caiaphas or Rose, so she stayed out of that, for now.

RE: stop i could've dropped my croissant - Nyx - January 17, 2018

"Burn the witch" lol, I love Wylla!  xD

The russet female motioned toward the Northern cliffs, indicating that her pack resided on them. Nyx nose twitched at this information, distinctly recalling that Ingram had told her he'd come from that direction and there was nothing of note. Making a mental note to bring this to his attention and question his honesty on the matter, the golden Ostrega responded with a contemplative "hm."

The frosty hybrid who lingered in the background made a move then, sweeping forward with venom on her tongue and a wry, toothy sneer tugging at her lips. Nyx observed quietly, wondering if this female had elected herself to lead whatever band had decided to call the beach their home, then stepped aside with a furrowed brow as she moved in to attack.

Nyx veered to her left with a huff through her nostrils, no interest at all in getting involved with this sudden, violent outburst. She had initially hoped the young Drageda wolf would take the hint and get herself out of sight before anything like this broke out, but alas this was not the case. Figuring it was in her own best interest to play along and assume the role both Caiaphas and Wylla seemed to assume of her, the agouti she-wolf moved quickly around the tussling pair in attempt to block any chance of Rose's escape.

The darkest of the group spoke up then, authority in the sharp words directed at the interloper, and Nyx' fierce yellow eyes looked to her briefly. Was she in charge? Confused, the tawny wolfess continued to hover with hackles bristled to watch the drama unfold before her.

RE: stop i could've dropped my croissant - Rose - January 17, 2018

Well shit.

Things turned sour real fast and before she even had a chance to really gasp all the words and insults that were being spewed at her, Rose was being greeted with flying sand and bared teeth. Her reaction was a moment too slow and as a result she found herself blindly crying out in pain at the sudden burning sensation that took to her eyes. She blinked a few times to rid herself of the sand only to find that opening her eyes caused the discomfort to grow significantly. She quickly squeezed her eyelids shut and took a few wobbly steps backwards to try and distance herself from the raging coywolf, but it seemed whatever exit she had been attempting to take was being blocked by the inky crowned female. So much for running away.

She forced her eyes open just in time to catch a blurry version of the siren lunging for her and, in an attempt to hopefully not die, Rose twisted herself away as quickly as possible. She had thought herself lucky enough to have escaped the attack, but the kru soon felt the hot breath of the sea witch upon her neck while fangs dug in just deep enough to spill tiny beads of blood. A venomous and low snarl spilled from her lips while she regained her footing, irritated eyes desperately trying to search for any sign of weakness the siren displayed. But she was not nearly as crafty or experienced as her assailant and the only idea that came to mind was to simply overpower the witch with whatever strength she could muster up.

So as drops of blood spilled into the sand, Rose lunged for the coywolf with every intention to send her toppling over, completely ignoring whatever blabber V face was saying. When she was convinced the siren’s defensive posture was shaken, the russet kru immediately aimed to lock her jaws around the sea witch’s neck and just kind of hang there and pray cause she had no idea what to do in situations like this.

RE: stop i could've dropped my croissant - Caiaphas - January 17, 2018

caiaphas expected the wolf would have the sense to flee; instead, rose rallied beneath her. in the siren queen's eyes, rose had just gone from interloper to outright aggressor.

she snarled wildly -- an explosive and wretched sound -- as rose shouldered her. the blow was not forceful enough to knock her off balance, but it was enough to push her back. caiaphas instinctively lowered herself and for good measure -- rose's teeth came scouring through her fur and gripped firmly on the back of her neck. rose's teeth sunk deep - and wisps of dark blood rose crisply against caiaphas' pale scruff.

the pain might have cowed some, but it only served as incendiary for the siren-queen -- already low, she dropped to the ground in the hopes to pull rose with her and free herself from rose's grip -- and then, with rose right on top of her (she would have to be given their arrangement) caiaphas lunged for one of her outstretched front forelimbs, her serrated jaws snapping with cruel abandon; she would cleave and shear anything she could get her teeth into, and if she made contact, she would wring her head back and forth to shatter bone and render the female crippled. with rose potentially injured, it would make her slower -- something that worked in caiaphas' favor.

no sooner did caiaphas unleash her first attack, did she aim for her second -- with the lunge and headshake placing sufficient momentum in her legs, she sprung up in a secondary counterattack -- this time aiming for the fleshy underthroat of her adversary. should she hit true, she would attempt to hold rose there to subdue her -- should she miss, she would round herself for a second, identical attack meant to end this altercation in the bloodiest manner possible.

caiaphas only saw two outcomes for the auburn furred trespasser -- submit, or die -- and she would be damned if she would be doing the one dying.

RE: stop i could've dropped my croissant - Wylla - January 21, 2018

Welp, thought Wylla, fuck all this. Sure, she was happy to fling insults about without a care in the world. She was more than happy to make threats when she had the upper hand. And yeah, technically Rose was being kind of a prat, refusing to acknowledge the claim and get outta dodge like she should have. But Wylla, though an adequate fighter when the situation called for it, wasn't exactly one to go immediately on the offensive, so when Caiaphas continued to do exactly that, the much younger she-wolf backpedaled away.

Two sides of her warred then: the part that knew that even though Caiaphas was a devil bitch who had stolen her brother, she was also a pack mate, and she should protect her; and the part that knew that Caiaphas was a devil bitch who deserved whatever came to her. Wylla's paws drifted through the sand, a step forward, then two hesitant steps back, and repeat, until she swung around closer to Nyx and muttered, "errrr what should we do? Should we attack too?"

Really, all Wylla wanted to do was run away and pretend she saw nothing, but a wolf's natural solidarity had its choking reins around her neck as well, and the part of her that wanted to aid her companion, devil though she was, grew by the second.

RE: stop i could've dropped my croissant - Nyx - February 09, 2018

The new adrenaline that coursed her veins urged her to join in, but she instead opted to keep her teeth sheathed. Nyx hovered near the russet wolfess flank, yellow eyes lingering briefly on the ashen figure of the volatile coywolf, and despite her natural dislike for coyote blood she was content to place her bet on Caiaphas to win. As she considered this, the young Drageda female reversed quickly in her direction and in response, Nyx made to deliver a swift nip to a tufted red thigh with every intention of herding her toward her masked comrade once more.

Wylla was soon by her side, but the golden Ostrega did not avert her stare from the fighting duo before her. "Wait," she encouraged, "I think she knows what she's doing." The hybrid certainly looked like she could handle herself against a yearling, but she was prepared to assist if she had to.

RE: stop i could've dropped my croissant - Rose - February 22, 2018

Rose had never doubted the sea witch’s ability in battle, but it became increasingly clear as the fight went on that the russet girl was heavily outmatched. Her moment of victory lasted no longer than a second before her opponent had the kru between her jaws, literally. This time it was her leg that was struck first, a hiss slithering from her lips as teeth drug along the tender flesh and spilt blood into the sand. The girl had attempted to backpedal away but whatever plan she had been brewing was quickly shot down when a sudden surge of pain shot through her leg. More damage had been dealt than she realized, an amateur mistake that crippled any chance she had of returning a wound.

With eyes still stinging and red, Rose couldn’t dodge the attacks as well as she had hoped and while she had gotten lucky on the first attempt at her throat, the russet girl wasn’t so fortunate with the next few. The siren lunged, missing her original target but still landing a blow that narrowly missed the kru’s jugular. The second strike was much cleaner and precise, it struck true and with a yelp Rose felt the pressure on her neck increase violently. Something inside of her told her to flee, to get out of this situation as quickly as she could, but it was no use. No amount of tugging was capable of freeing her from the elder woman’s jaws and the fiery yearling soon felt the nausea begin to spin around in her stomach.

She had liked to believe she never feared death but, now that it was staring at her right in the face, every bit of courage she had built up came crashing down in an instant. She went stiff, anxiously awaiting for the pressure on her neck to increase and for it to all just end. But whether it be out of fear or foolishness, Rose sought after the tiniest bit of hope there might be and let herself relax, leaving herself at the complete mercy of her opponent. Any incantation of opposing the sea witch was visibly gone from her posture as shaky breaths escaped her, body shivering involuntarily as she awaited either death or something equally as horrid.

RE: stop i could've dropped my croissant - Caiaphas - February 25, 2018

wrapping up since this thread is a little outdated now - rose has agreed to be a prisoner! any threads regarding her should probably be backdated :P

they fought and snarled as the wolves looked on; caiaphas incensed by the wolf's trespass, the wolf incensed by her will to survive. in a lucky stroke caiaphas had secured enough purchase of rose's scruff that the female relented -- and as soon as the retaliative composure was fled from rose's limbs caiaphas spit her from her muzzle and stepped back with a snarl crippling her features.

"move, now." she instructed, her tail held high over her hips as she awaited the creature's compliance. she would lead rose to the grotto -- there she would decide what to do with her. she canted her direction to the grim opening of the sunken cave and looked to rose commandingly: "there."

RE: stop i could've dropped my croissant - Wylla - February 28, 2018

"You're right," murmured Wylla to Nyx as Caiaphas scruffed Rose and pressed her into the rough sand. Wylla's jet ears flicked back uncertainly, but all the while she was scribbling mental notes to herself. She had no love for the sea witch, but this manner of dealing with trespass certainly brooked no argument. It seemed like a good way to ensure a favourable outcome.

Something rippled strangely in Wylla's gut when Caiaphas' tail flagged skyward, but for now, it was tempered by her usual nature; soon the season would ripen and such flagrant displays would offend her more, but she was newly come to the strand and new to the position Ingram had elected her to as well, and didn't know how to handle herself. With a grim smile at Nyx, the cinder yearling headed off in another direction. She didn't want to be involved in whatever weird rituals and spells Caiaphas was sure to use on their cinnamon captive, and she didn't want to be responsible for Rose either.

RE: stop i could've dropped my croissant - Nyx - March 06, 2018

Nyx, like Wylla, also did not wish to be responsible for the Drageda wolfess. She merely watched as the masked coywolf slackened her grip on the trespasser, and genuinely hadn't been expecting her to herd her along toward the Grotto - not toward the outskirts as she initially expected. Despite this, she figured it would be a good idea to at least try fitting on, or at least pretend to make the effort. As such, the golden Ostrega prepared to follow.

Curious but uncertain, she turned her yellow eyes toward the mottled yearling to exchange a fleeting glance. The littlest of their trio turned away then, heading off in the opposite direction, while Nyx hesitated. Unsure exactly who was who within this pack, and where she might fit should she choose to stay, she felt completely torn on who to follow. Flicking her tongue over her lips, she looked briefly toward the red captive before choosing to move off, away from all of them.
