Tonight we feast - Illecebra - January 19, 2018 I figured this was totally something for @Valette but anyone can help with this!
Illecebra had heard of what happened with Steph and had been kind of watching over the bison herd as of late. She was patrolling not too far off when there was this loud bellowing and then a second one in response to that. The sound was downright terrifying and sure to be heard from all over the territory but Cebra ran toward it immediately. When she arrived on the hilltop overlooking the bison she saw something that made her grin. There looked to be a fallen herd member, laying upon the grass near the others. Its flanks were still rising and falling but there was the sharp scent of blood in the air. A particularly large bison male stood over the fallen one, bellowing again and stamping it's hooves on the ground. The male snorted once more and turned, slowly walking away as she watched. The herd seemed to follow and they all moved a good distance from the fallen one. Cebra licked her lips and stared openly at the dying bison. If she could just find some help in dragging the massive beast back toward the pack a bit, they could all feast for sure. Unsure of what to do she called for Valette and also tossed up a call for those she knew and trusted @Howl and @Mawk. RE: Tonight we feast - Howl - January 21, 2018
He heard the large and loud groans and calls from the beasts, at first not knowing what was causing them. They sounded terrible, a mixture of pain and strength. When Cebra called out he raced towards the call, worried that she might be introuble after those noises. Rushing towards her to find her looking off, he followed her gaze releaved that she didn't appear to be in any danger. He looked to see a large female bison on the ground and her herd slowly walking by. "What's going on?" he asked with a little lack of breath, and without his usual gentalmanly flare. RE: Tonight we feast - RIP Valette - January 22, 2018 Valette was quick to respond to Cebra's howl. She didn't expect Cebra to find a very injured bison on the ground. She watched the herds daily. It didn't matter with the failure of the pack hunt and the injuries of a few of their packmates Valette knew they needed this meat. She nodded at Cebra in approval when seeing the dying bison. It didn't seem like it was the same they hunted but it was definitely closer to death than the other bison they chased or tried to take down. Valette howled for the rest of the pack @Nanook @Banner @Murdock @Keoni @Birk @Kiran @Stark @Larus @Clary @Ezra @Cyron. Valette knew that Nikai and Steph would be too injured to come over. She didn't want them to come over even. They would get a piece of the meat. Valette's howl was a long one. Summoning everyone for the hunt who wanted to finish off one of these beasts. They would have a feast from all the meat it was sporting. "Once there are more wolves, let's take this thing down." RE: Tonight we feast - Larus - January 22, 2018
The masked man was on his way back to Easthollow after a sojourn through the wilderness when the call rose, and while he was tired he also knew this to be a prime opportunity to meet his fellow packmates. So he was swift to deviate in his path, heading straight for the origin of the call; Larus was midway there when another rose up - this time Valette's voice requesting him specifically, among others - and he quickened his pace. Larus was panting as he crested a hill, but from his vantage point he could see the gathering wolves and the nearby herd of bison. Although he was no stranger to large game, it was not often for Larus to seek out anything as formidable as a single bison, let alone a herd, when he was on his own. He found his heart thundering in his chest at the thought of chasing one down with the others, unaware that the plan wasn't to seek a healthy creature, but the aged and the dying. Still, he lingered nearby to Valette and awaited instruction, clearly fixated on the herd with an eagerness that felt fantastically new. RE: Tonight we feast - Murdock - January 22, 2018 Murdock made haste to the scene despite the sharp pain in his ribs. He paused just out of sight of his packmates to give into the urge to cough before trotting the rest of the way. He wondered if @Poppy would hear the call and come to aid them - perhaps her own vigorous presence would help distract from what was sure to be a lackluster performance on his end. "'lo, Val," he said with a deferential dip of his head, approaching the others as casually as he could. He nodded to Larus, Howl, and Illecebra, although the only one he was familiar with was Illecebra, and his opinion of her was less than stellar. RE: Tonight we feast - RIP Poppy - January 22, 2018
The call for the pack had her lurch from the remnants of her meal as she attempted to pinpoint the howl, discarding the twiggy spine of the ground squirrel easily. Prancing to her feet, she made haste towards the source of the howl, pausing a moment to find the familiar form of Murdock before making her final approach, slipping beside him and staring out at the bison. "those are big," she muttered to the male, tail twitching behind her. She'd known that, but she'd kept her distance from the herd well enough, never getting close enough to realize their true height. They seemed commanding, unmovable, and she doubted that she or any other sheepdog could herd such beasts.
RE: Tonight we feast - Illecebra - January 23, 2018 so with so many people I'd say this can have no posting order and maybe a few rounds? This post signals the first round and it'll end on the 27th to give everyone three days to post before moving on.
Soon after her call was sent up Howl and Valette arrived. She wiggled her tail nub at the nod from Valette and turned spoke to Howl "I believe she must have done something to piss off that male returning to the herd. It looks like he stabbed her with his horns" she said and shuddered at the thought of those massively things going into her flesh. Not long after Valette called for the others and to her delight Larus, Murdock, and the cute dog poppy showed up. While she didn't like Murdock one bit she offered him a civil dip of her head before turning to grin at poppy "That's a bison. They're big, smelly, loud, and... really dangerous and hard to hunt" she said hoping to inform the dog a bit. Next she turned to Larus "Ah...the explorer. I see you chose Easthollow as your home" she said with a pleasant smile. Finally she turned to Valette and began to speak about the fallen creature "It looks too weak to put up any fight at this point, but maybe a few of us should go and tear out it's throat to put it out of it's misery and also make it easier to drag away?" She suggested noticing that even still the fallen animals flanks rose and fell, slow and weak but still showing life. "The herd seems to have moved a good distance away, I dont believe they'll attack us if we remain by this fallen one." She looked over at the herd and noted that by this time the angered male had fully re-entered the circle of buffalo. RE: Tonight we feast - Kiran - January 24, 2018 Kiran was resting under a nearby tree when she heard her alpha's call, she swiftly reaches their destination and walks in as Illecebra had stated that bison were hard to hunt. From Kiran's knowledge, buffalo were extremely unpredictable. "Hello, you called ma'am?" She asked Valette.
RE: Tonight we feast - RIP Valette - January 26, 2018 Valette was pleased to see that Larus, Murdock, Poppy, and Kiran showed up. Now they had seven wolves and a dying bison. "I know our last pack hunt failed hunting this creature. But Cebra found one dying," she spoke and pointed her muzzle to the animal. "They are extremely dangerous. So watch out for their legs and head," she warned all of them in a serious tone. 'I want you guys to bite and make more wounds to weaken it. I will try to go for the throat and suffocate," she spoke with a nod. She was the most skilled hunter here and with a specialty of hunting big game. They had to take this meal. They had a lot of wolves that were down and needed the food. Valette howled. 'Let's get it!," she growled eagerly. This was payback. RE: Tonight we feast - Illecebra - January 26, 2018 As one more wolf showed up,this one being a stranger to her, she smiled and wagged her stub. Now they definitely had enough to finish the kill and work on dragging the beast away. As Valette spoke she nodded her head with an excited grin "yes ma'am!" She said and moved forward toward the Bison. Not one to shy away from danger she immediately went for the belly, leaping in and lunging to grab the flesh where she ripped and tore open a good sized bite before leaping away from the kick it aimed at her. Licking the blood on her maw she went around to it's back and began to bite in quick movements all over it's ribcage while her eyes looked over at the others. Suddenly the beast bellowed and weakly attempted to slam it's head backward into her and she again dodged, her eyes widening. "She's got some fight left" she murmured and shook her pelt out. Either way of they were cautious, this beast would die. If they simply stood there and watched the impalement from the other bison's horns would do the job. RE: Tonight we feast - RIP Poppy - January 26, 2018
Illecebra reaffirmed much of what she knew, though she was surprised to learn that the wolves hunted the beasts. Ears flickering, wondering at the power of those she resided with now, she twisted to the alpha as she began to speak. She nodded seriously when the woman gave her instruction, glancing once to Murdock before moving to fall in behind Illecebra, heart already pumping. She danced near the buffalo beside her packmates, delivering neat, tearing bites before dancing away, light and nimble as she danced around the massive beast, reminiscent of a pesky mosquito.
RE: Tonight we feast - Larus - January 28, 2018
There were many bodies, many mouthes to feed. But the bison were the biggest things he'd ever witnessed and Larus was mildly skeptical of the pack's ability. Valette's plan seemed straight-forward and so Larus nodded to himself, mentally pumping himself up for the pursuit as he followed the others. When they began to set upon the bison he followed suit - a golden streak that flanked the rest of the wolves. When he got near enough to the bison to attempt anything, he wasn't sure of his aim nor confident enough to launch himself after it, so he held off until others got the first few snaps in. He watched them as the group ran; each moment felt as if it were slow motion despite it happening concurrently, and so, so fast. The smallest among them (a brown and white thing that didn't look quite right) was fleet of foot and swift with their blows; but it was Illecebra that caught the Sveijarn's attention and held it. The bison retaliated, and she went tumbling - so, without thinking, Larus threw himself after the target and placed himself between the fallen Illecebra, and soon enough Poppy was flanking them both. She did not seem injured; Larus launched himself then, throwing himself after the bison with a thunderous beat to his steps and a drum-beat pulse. His blows were messy and often did not align with what he was aiming for, but his teeth were sharp and his strength true. The bison was bleeding from various points by the time he tired — and as Larus slowed his pace and fell in behind the others, licking blood from his lips, he looked to the gathered pack for their support. RE: Tonight we feast - Howl - January 28, 2018
Hearing from Cebra that this bison was infact injured by one of it's one made Howl less concerned with whether or not the rest of the herd would come after them once they moved in on this bison. After all, why would a male bison injure a female, just to come to her rescue. But these beasts weren't wolves and thier unpredict ability was part of thier reputation. When Valette announced the plan he gave her a hard nod. He didn't know many of the other pack members, though he tried to give each and everyone of them a friendly head nod as they flowed in. Cebra was one of the first ones to dive in as she rushed for the bison's stomach and gut area. A leathal spot to choose for both the bison and for Cebra if she wasn't careful. The bison, like Cebra said, had some fight still left in her. Howl rushed to the other side of the bison, away from it's flailing legs. He would have gone right for the throat, but Valette had claimed that spot and so her went to stand over the bison, placing his front paws on the her side before taking a large bite into her armpit and lung area. The bison flailed it's front leg, but Howl was determined to hold on and tear open the exposed flesh. He could taste the blood in his mouth and with every move the bison made the harder and deeper down his teeth dug. RE: Tonight we feast - Illecebra - February 11, 2018 Recovering quickly from the attempted hit of the bison she moved around Larus and went for the belly, taking enough time to slash through the flesh there before jumping back out of reach of a kick. She repeated this a few times until she noticed the snow beneath the beast becoming stained by an every growing pool of crimson. The bison itself no longer kicked or thrashed but instead watched them with weak rolls of it's eyes, it's flanks slowing with the weakening of it's breath. She watched it silently for a few moments before deciding to test whether it was really time to go for the kill. She moved toward it's back end and bit right near it's hind legs, a quick nip before she leaped away nimbly but the bison made no move to kick her. Acknowledging that it was time she turned to Valette and grinned "She's ready for the kill Val. She's all yours" she chuffed lowly and gave a slow sway of her tail. RE: Tonight we feast - RIP Poppy - February 11, 2018
She soon fell into a kind of rhythm beside her packmates, find joy in the thrill that coursed through her veins and warmed her against the chill. The collie leapt and nipped, flanking the bigger wolves who were able to inflict more damage than her tearing nips ever could. Still, she took no notice of this, ears bright and ears perked as she moved, springing clean over a halfhearted kick as the bison sought with fading desperation to slow the end of it's life.
RE: Tonight we feast - RIP Valette - February 12, 2018 Valette tried to reach the bison's neck but it wasn't always as safe as the bison swung its head full of horns towards her. Val was almost having some kind of dance with the bison as she tried to get closer to the underside of his neck. It helped that her packmates were weakening it as well. Valette got the neck on top quite frequently but that was not a weak spot for a bison. She knew this. Once the bison started to kick less she made her move forward. She didn't really need Cebra's comment that this was the right time to strike. She knew. She felt it. Valette's jaw clamped around the bison's throat. She felt the pulse hit her teeth though as she clamped down more she felt the pulse slow until they made their first successful bison kill. Valette was excited. She yipped eagerly. She moved to the belly of the bison and opened it. Valette wanted her children to have the good meat and injured Nikai. So, now she would take her alpha's right to 'eat' first. She would take out some of the organs and bring it to the injured ones before the other's would feast. RE: Tonight we feast - Larus - February 12, 2018
They had worried the bison down to nothing and Larus was proud of each wolf involved; he couldn't remember the last time he had felt this exhilarated from a hunt. He had certainly never taken down anything of such size before, with or without assistance. The pack continued to snap and tear at the bison but it was Valette who took up the important position by it's throat: and before long, she had ended it's life. Larus was not a religious individual but even he couldn't help but dip his head in reverence to the massive beast before him. It was a law of equivalent exchanges: the end of one life for the continuation of the next. The moment was brief, and afterwards Larus marched up close to where Valette was tearing at the fallen beast's belly. She was collecting the tender sweet bits first. Truthfully the man wasn't even hungry. He had expended quite a lot of energy in the pursuit of the bison, in the harassment of it, but he was also filled to bursting with adrenaline. He would not be eating for a while anyways — the others deserved it more — so he fell back from the fresh carcass and patrolled around the group, keeping a watch out for scavengers that would doubtlessly be lured by the scent of fresh blood. RE: Tonight we feast - Kiran - February 12, 2018 The pack had finally brought down the creature and she looked around at everyone then back at the animal before here. The white she-wolf mumbled a thank you only quiet enough for her to hear. The females mother had taught her to always value life and to give thanks to the animal for providing for them. She was thankful for Easthollow and was excited to see how her journey would continue. RE: Tonight we feast - Howl - February 12, 2018
From his possition on the bison Howl had control of the bison's front leg, which kicked like its back legs, trying its darnest to get these wolves off of it. But it was no use and with the help of the other members the bison was quickly injured and tuckered out. Valette went in for the final kill and Howl made sure the bison would not get an opportuity to strike her as she did. It was a quick kill and the beast fell still shortly after. He released his grib and licked the blood which strained his muzzle. The pack had been victorious, and even though his bison had fought for its life, he still appriciated its sacrafice. Willing or not. Valette want in for the first bites, and Howl waited as she did. He wasn't sure if the plan was to still drag the bison back to where more of the pack could have access to it, but he waited on eating until it was decided. He was still pumping with adrenaline and didn't want to take a break to eat before halling the massive creature. If the did end up moving the beast he would put himself right in the thick of it. Pulling as much as he could with his strong build. But if it turned out that they were content with the beasts placement he would wait his turn and reward himself with the delicious feast. RE: Tonight we feast - Illecebra - February 14, 2018 after this round, there can be one more? Then archive?
Her eyes sparkled with the exhileration of this hunt. Granted, the beast had already been felled when she came upon it but it had still fought valiantly for it's life from it's spot on the ground. If any of them hadn't been prepared they could have easily been hurt. She couldn't seem to hold still and danced from side to side as Valette went in for the kill, her eyes watching the Alpha secure the throat and clamp down to suffocate it. She could see the moment the Bison died, it's flanks shuddering in a great final heave before it's head fell limp, eyes going glassy with the stare of death. Her tail nub wiggled frantically to show her joy and her maw was parted in short bursts of breath as the scent of blood filled the air when Valette tore at the belly. She moved in closer to the group again, moving to stand beside Poppy who she gave a friendly nudge "Fun right?" she asked with a playful wink, assuming that the she dog had never participated in something like this before. RE: Tonight we feast - RIP Valette - February 15, 2018 I think this being the last round is perfect!
Valette took the meat that she needed for the injured. The female grabbed the meat and then carried it off. This would give her pack members the space to take the meat they needed. Valette put the meat down for a moment. "Eat, once the carcass is lighter we will move it," she spoke. Valette then picked up the meat again. She would let them battle it out who would eat first. The female wanted to make sure Steph and Nikai would eat first. RE: Tonight we feast - Larus - February 15, 2018 Last from me probably. Larus out.
Soon enough Valette was backing off, but she gave a few commands prior to her departure. Larus listened the same as all the others; then, as she took off with the choice meats, he advanced upon the carcass. He was hungry after all of the running and everything, but he knew his place — so he turned to find @Illecebra among the crowd of hunters and moved out of the way. You organized and led this. I think it's your turn — you earned it.His tail fanned behind his silvered body as he spoke, and then he glanced at each wolf present for confirmation. Then again, if anyone refused to see it his way, Larus was still pumped with enough adrenaline that he might've been keen to fight them off for the lead hunter's sake. Whether the others agreed or not, one by one the wolves of Easthollow took their turns with feeding off the carcass. By the time it was light enough (and broken down enough) for them to carry, Larus was more than happy to assist with the transportation of the bison meat. They'd taken it down together and now, harvested it together — he felt like one of them. Like he had earned it, at least for today. |
