Soon as I open my eyes, see the sun through the blinds, I feel electrified - Wildfire - January 22, 2018 @Bobby wouldn't leave her side following their eventful reunion. After Portia's checkup, he tried to escort her to Hougeda, only for Wildfire to emphatically shake her head. "I'll never set foot in a cave again," she told him regretfully, "and I'll explain why, one day. But I don't want to think about that right now. How about I show you my tree?" And she led him to her hollow redwood, which was just one more sight for sore eyes. He sat beside the little doorway as she slipped inside, curled into a ball and fell fast asleep. When she woke much later—well into the next day, in fact—she found her son keeping his faithful vigil outside. "Let me catch you something to eat," Wildfire offered, motioning for him to follow as she moved deeper into the woods. "Have you heard any news?" she wondered. Bobby shook his head. Wildfire put her worries out of her mind, focusing her attention on her son that so resembled her own father, and the bright January sun that warmed their backs through the bare treetops. RE: Soon as I open my eyes, see the sun through the blinds, I feel electrified - Bobby - January 28, 2018 Bobby obeyed, following his mother in silence. There was a certain comfort in having her this close again, being able to see her and smell her and hear her voice, but there was something off. Something had changed and while it was difficult to tell who the change had come from, it was even harder to ignore it. You were gone for so long, he laughed, I'm a lot better at hunting now.He remembered the last hunt that they'd had together; though the memories were vague, they managed to remain. Bobby's smile slowly faded as he took a few long-legged steps to properly align himself beside his mother. 'Think maybe I should be catching you something, instead. RE: Soon as I open my eyes, see the sun through the blinds, I feel electrified - Wildfire - January 29, 2018 His words cast a shadow over the sunny day. Wildfire stopped and turned toward him, an apologetic frown marring her face. "I know, Bobby, I'm so sorry." She knew he hadn't meant to burst her bubble, though, and she didn't want to linger on all the things she'd missed. "How about we hunt together? I've always worked best with a teammate." After giving him a chance to react, Wildfire began moving again, threading through the trees. It was so damn good to be home. She would never take for granted the way the sun shone down through the treetops, scattering light and shadow across her back. She had been imprisoned underground for so long. Buried alive, she thought darkly, then forced that thought away and glanced again at her son's face. "So are you working on the hunter trade?" she wondered before it occurred to her to amend, "Or have you earned it already?" Her children were adults now, Wildfire reminded herself, ignoring the dull pang in her chest. "Any specialties?" But before Bobby could even answer her, another thought tumbled from her mouth. "Speaking of hunters, you look so much like your grandfather now." RE: Soon as I open my eyes, see the sun through the blinds, I feel electrified - Bobby - January 29, 2018 Bobby gave a breathy laugh and a shake of his head, a charming smile written across his maw. Nah, don't worry about it, he replied with a slight nudge to Wildfire's shoulder, I just — I don't know, it doesn't matter. He chose to be silent for a bit after that, only giving a nod of his head in response. Give it some time, Bobby, he thought to himself, It's only been a day. I got it, actually, Bobby announced proudly with a two-step and a smirk, No specialties yet but I'm working on it.Was he though? He sucked in a sharp breath through his teeth and shook his head, Or I guess, now I am. He furrowed his brow and huffed, My grandfather? RE: Soon as I open my eyes, see the sun through the blinds, I feel electrified - Wildfire - January 30, 2018 Bobby's reply rung as another stark reminder of how long she'd been gone and how much she'd missed. He should be well aware of Peregrine, Fox and the rest of his maternal family tree. Wildfire swallowed thickly. There was no time like the present to remedy this situation. "Yes, your grandfather, Peregrine Redhawk—my father," she said, managing a smile, although it felt a little forced. "You really look just like him," she continued as they trekked through the forest in search of game. "He was a great hunter. And, of course, I'm a master trapper myself." Did he know that? She glanced at him, then her chestnut eyes roved ahead. RE: Soon as I open my eyes, see the sun through the blinds, I feel electrified - Bobby - January 30, 2018 Bobby drew worked through a deep breath as he nodded his head along to Wildfire's words. Guess he was quite the looker, eh?He was searching for ways to lighten to mood, bring a bit of joy back to their reunion, but he only had so many tricks up his sleeve. Maybe I'll be a trapper, too. You could teach me, right? It would be a good excuse for the two of them to spend more time together, catch up on everything they'd missed. What're we looking for? They were supposed to be on a hunt, after all. RE: Soon as I open my eyes, see the sun through the blinds, I feel electrified - Wildfire - January 30, 2018 Her lips twitched at his remark, though Wildfire didn't comment. Perhaps if she hadn't been in heat at the present moment, she could've quipped about her father's and son's good looks. But it felt inappropriate, somehow, given the situation. That made her cast a furtive look his way. If the scent was bothering him, he gave no indication. In fact, he seemed entirely unaffected, which was a relief. Somehow, Wildfire was mostly able to mute her own hormonal impulses. Her priorities lay elsewhere right now. Bobby's question brought her back to attention. "Of course!" she replied right away. "I'd love to mentor you. We could—" Her voice cut off as she laughed lightly at his question. "Well, I haven't caught any scents yet. Have you? Oh," she said, coughing, "speaking of scents, let me know if it's too much of a distraction." She gave him an awkward smile, hoping he knew what she meant. RE: Soon as I open my eyes, see the sun through the blinds, I feel electrified - Bobby - January 31, 2018 None that I'd go after, no. Wildfire was him mom, like mother, like birthed him from her womb; regardless of instinctual thoughts or wonders, Bobby couldn't imagine trying anything with her (even if he knew how, y'know). Nonetheless, he nodded his head with a silent expression of understanding. Gotcha, he replied, though his eyes remained trained on the ground. Other than that, she was right; there wasn't much to pick up on, it seemed. There was a faint something flowing downwind. Bobby pulled himself toward it, motioning for Wildfire to do the same. Whad'ya think? RE: Soon as I open my eyes, see the sun through the blinds, I feel electrified - Wildfire - February 01, 2018 He seemed mildly embarrassed by the question, though he made no mention of any discomfort. Heartened that something as uncontrollable as her hormones would not derail this quality time spent with her youngest son, Wildfire turned her nose into the wind. It was crisp and salty. She breathed in deeply, feeling more at home than ever. And there, beneath the wintry sea breeze and even her own alluring scent, she captured something. "Smells like a groundhog," she observed, looking at Bobby. "I think that sounds like a hearty breakfast." Wildfire smirked, then invited, "You take point." RE: Soon as I open my eyes, see the sun through the blinds, I feel electrified - Bobby - February 03, 2018 Bobby nodded with a grin as he prepared to round up on the groundhog. It was a bit of a ways off, based on the weakness of the trail, but it didn't take long before it's plump rump was right in the middle of his field of vision. Bobby licked his maw hungrily and tried unsuccessfully to reign in a bit of dribble from the corner of his mouth. His steps were quiet and close, each one taken with care so as to not startle their target. RE: Soon as I open my eyes, see the sun through the blinds, I feel electrified - Wildfire - February 05, 2018 Bobby led the way and Wildfire trailed after him like his little red shadow. It wasn't long before the groundhog was in their sights. They were looking at its back, though it wouldn't be long before the overgrown rodent peered in this direction and spotted them. They would have to act quickly. Admiring her son's expert approach, Wildfire silently signaled to him, then broke away. She backtracked slightly, then began loping in a wide circle around their prey. They were like the two hands of a clock, with the groundhog at the very center of the dial. Even as she kept an eye on Bobby's movements, Wildfire did her best to position herself across from him without alerting their quarry. RE: Soon as I open my eyes, see the sun through the blinds, I feel electrified - Bobby - February 05, 2018 Bobby watched his mother's movements for the perfect moment to step out and make the first attack. They didn't have much time to waste and he knew that, but he wanted this to be perfect. He would impress Wildfire with his skills, he swore it. Once she stopped moving, he looked at her for a moment and gave a silent nod. It was off to the races, then! With one swift step, Bobby began his quick approach, teeth bared and jaws open. He aimed to fall down onto the creature's neck, but landed somewhere along the spine, making for an angry groundhog rather than a dead one, as he had hoped. Oops. RE: Soon as I open my eyes, see the sun through the blinds, I feel electrified - Wildfire - February 06, 2018 With the groundhog covered on both sides, the pair had successfully narrowed down its escape routes. Wildfire crouched, prepared to spring, though she let Bobby make the first move. She was only here to cut it off should the groundhog outmaneuver her son. When Bobby pounced and landed his hit, the Feisripa straightened up to inspect his kill. Only he hadn't quite managed to dispatch it. The large rodent squirmed and gnashed its teeth even as Bobby pinned it. Although Wildfire would've loved to for him to do the honors, she was frightened of what those teeth and claws might do to him. In a flash, she leaped forward and closed her teeth around the back of the groundhog's neck. She jostled slightly against Bobby as she then twisted and applied pressure simultaneously, breaking the prey's neck and cutting off its windpipe to ensure its swift death. RE: Soon as I open my eyes, see the sun through the blinds, I feel electrified - Bobby - February 07, 2018 Thankfully, Wildfire's eyes were on the prize, even when Bobby's weren't. As he struggled against the groundhog, his mother was quick to pounce and finish the job for him. So much for impressing her, he thought, though the disappointment only lasted a moment — breakfast was served! With a smile on his maw and excitement in his eyes, Bobby did a strange little jig and looked to Wildfire to do the honors. RE: Soon as I open my eyes, see the sun through the blinds, I feel electrified - Wildfire - February 12, 2018 With the groundhog dead, Wildfire stepped back and threw Bobby an apologetic glance. "Sorry," she said, "I didn't want to interfere. But I was afraid of what those teeth might do." She gestured absently at the glimpses of white protruding from their prey's slack mouth. "Motherly instincts can be undeniably strong sometimes," she added with a lopsided smile. He seemed to want her to divvy up the rations, so she eagerly set to butchering the fresh kill. She shamelessly pushed the larger portion toward Bobby, then settled back and enjoyed her morsel, munching happily in the winter sunshine. If you wanna nudge this toward a conclusion, feel free! :)
RE: Soon as I open my eyes, see the sun through the blinds, I feel electrified - Bobby - February 13, 2018 A quick feeling of guilt washed over Bobby, marked by the flagging of his ears and a low, almost inaudible whine, as he watched Wildfire take the smaller portion for herself. The way he saw it, they'd both done the same share of work in taking down the prey, so why shouldn't they have recieved the same reward? After a moment's silence and obvious hesitation, Bobby knelt down to pluck away another cut and placed it beside his mother's paws. Pleased with himself, Bobby relaxed with a heavy sigh and began to tear into his breakfast. |
