I pray for the wicked on the weekend - Faeryn - March 24, 2018

AW! :)

It was early morning when she rose, an rhythmic drumming of rain against the walls of the small cave that Faeryn had huddled inside for the night. The sunlight was only now beginning to rouse more colours from a sleepy monochrome, awakening the strokes of dim orange that poked just above the line on the horizon until they were glowing embers - vibrant streaks of gold and vermillion in the sky. The water falling from that sky was light but soaked her fur like a raincoat with a hole scorched into the side, pelt dampening under the canvas of morning.

She had little reason to be up at such a time, but the tranquility of the early hours drew her like a moth to a flame, gaze trained firmly upon the rolling waves of the sea as she approached the edges of the sand and simply observed while the sun began to rise in the sky.

Despite Hemlock’s tight eye, Droman was adept at sneaking away during the night to watch the waves. Normally, he made it back before his absence could be noticed (as far as he knew, at least, but he wasn’t particularly vigilant). Something this time had managed to keep him out a bit longer than he had planned; he hadn’t even noticed the sunrise.

Down the coast was another wolf who Droman had a vague remembrance of, but one that gave him the courage to approach. There was a new, shiny seashell in his mouth that he decided he would bring as a gift. That was sort of his thing now, giving gifts to his packmates.

Hi missus, he called through clenched teeth as he made his approach.

RE: I pray for the wicked on the weekend - Coelacanth - March 29, 2018

Coelacanth was often accompanied by @Stockholm and @Moorhen these days. Despite a few initial blunders, she had become aware of the banded female’s dependence on her and did her best to stay on the island as much as possible. This morning she rose and went in search of Faeryn and Hemlock, eager to celebrate the pack’s revival — but she did not move with any real sense of urgency. She was simply content and wished to develop a stronger relationship with her packmates. A soft whisper-whine of invitation was given to her coffee stout lamb as she followed the fresh scents of Faeryn, Hemlock, Droman, and Reed — it was unclear to her from scent alone whether Droman was with his mother or if the viridian-eyed dryad had simply passed through recently.

A few paces more and the story became clear: Droman, the rogue scientist, had wandered off on his own and was making polite conversation with the Akhlut. Coelacanth boofed softly to make her own presence known, then stretched out like a tuft-eared sphinx, inching forward on her belly to greet her packmates. For Seelie, being a member of the Council didn’t really affect her general interactions with others; she was not a particularly dominant creature and was not likely to become one with age or time. “What are you two up to?” bespoke the shy, inquisitive tilt of her head.

RE: I pray for the wicked on the weekend - Faeryn - March 30, 2018

The sound of paws crossing the grains of sand caught her attention, and the pale Ahklut turned her head to catch sight of a young male crossing the distance between them. A small smile caused the upward quirk of her lips, nodding in greeting to the boy who clutched a shell betwixt his jaws - he approached with a greeting, and Faeryn responded with a greeting of her own. "Hey there!"

Before any more words could be shared, a soft boof sounded from not far off, a familiar sound to the ears of the gem, who eagerly peered around to spot the Aralez. Her smile grew, tail wagging slightly before opening her jaws to respond to the question and cerulean gaze momentarily drifting back to the burning sky. "I was just watching the sunrise. Would you both like to join me?"

The warm greeting that Droman recieved was taken in with a wide smile and a violent beat of his tail. A boof came from behind him, so he looked over his shoulder and saw Seelie approaching with her normal bright disposition. At first, Droman reacted with a silent, Heck yeah!, that quickly turned to a Heck no!, as he realized that he'd only brought one seashell. Before Seelie could come into earshot, Droman wiggled up to the stranger and whispered in her ear, I only bought the one thing, but I need two, so I'm gonna hide it 'til later, 'kay?

Without waiting for the pretty lady's response, Dro quickly buried the shell in time to greet Seelie with enthusiatic licks. Watch it with us, 'kay?

RE: I pray for the wicked on the weekend - Coelacanth - April 07, 2018

Coelacanth “barked” a greeting of her own to the Akhlut, her hips hiking upward like a kitten with “elevator butt” as her inky tail whisked eagerly. She patted the sand with her rounded forepaws in a playful manner, but ultimately succumbed to laziness, stretching out on her stomach near the other seawolves. She accepted Droman’s enthusiastic hello with shy exuberance, a flurry of airy kisses offered in warm rejoinder, and nodded eagerly to accept his invitation. Sweet guppy, she thought, her forequarters sternal but her hindquarters splaying comfortably out to the right; the curve of her body formed a slight lowercase “j” without a tittle, and she preened at a snarl of feathery fur on her flank, for the first time wondering what it might be like to have little lambs of her own. A contented sigh spilled from her as she watched the play of citrine over the horizon.

RE: I pray for the wicked on the weekend - Faeryn - April 07, 2018

The boy crept closer to whisper something into the Ahklut's soft ear, and in response she gave a slight nod of her dove grey head. "Okay." She returned the whisper, small smile growing upon her ivory maw. His reasons for bringing the seashell were unknown to Faeryn but it seemed almost as though it was some kind of gift. In that case, he must have wanted to give Seelie a present too.

She watched the two greet each other with affection, a peaceful sight if ever there was one, and then turned her azure gaze back toward the painted sky as the sun rose. "It looks beautiful." She murmered, perhaps to herself. The mix of lightening blue and orange was a spectacular sight, none could possibly deny.

Skipping Droman because he is on PPC.

Another contented sigh slipped from the Aralez’s smiling lips as the boy’s sister arrived upon the scene to watch the rising sun as well; the play of color over their erythristic fur gilded each separate guard hair in gold, and in this glimmering of beauty she saw their mother. Seelie was so happy to have Hemlock and Faeryn home, and she inched closer to the blue she-wolf on her belly, sprawling out beside her and gazing fondly up at the Akhlut. Reed was still too unfamiliar with Coelacanth to tolerate too much contact, physical or otherwise, and so the sheepdog kept her distance but did her best to “flirt” in her own way. Rooting through the sand, she uncovered a weathered shard of pale green sea glass and nosed it toward the girl, making no demands of thanks.

In her typically halting manner, “Faeryn,” she whispered, “greet-gift, Cons’antine, soon?” Stockholm would have been Seelie’s first choice for such an excursion, but she wanted him to stay here, on the island. She believed, perhaps erroneously, that Moorhen would be mollified by the Gampr’s presence even if the Groenendael had to travel to the mainland for business. Too, she knew that the fiery-eyed Mayfair lived in what had once been Arturo’s wood and did not wish to take Hemlock there lest the woman have her wounds reopened by the all too familiar terrain.

RE: I pray for the wicked on the weekend - Salazar - May 09, 2018

While Seelie and Faeryn entertained themselves with their own conversation, Droman continued on with his fascinated stare. There was so much about this world that the young boy longed to learn, so much that he yearned to see, but alas, his short legs could only carry him so far. One day, after he'd done all of the growing that he could do, Droman knew that he would get his chance to see what else was hiding from him beyond the isle.

See that? he exclaimed, turning around with an excited wag of his tail, Look at that! It's so wow! Out there, not so far from the shore, sleek fins peeked out above the water as sea creatures did their dance below its surface. Lookie! Without thinking much, Droman bounded out into the water until it rose to his chin and watched with his head held high, hoping for a better view.

RE: I pray for the wicked on the weekend - Faeryn - May 17, 2018

The Ahklut smiled warmly as Seelie inched closer, allowing her blue tail to beat happily against the sand. It felt so good to belong somewhere, she'd never known this before and it stunned her even more than the wave's endless rise and fall against the horizon. Having no recollection of her childhood, Faeryn had never truly known home. But now... now she felt as though this was where she was meant to be, among these wolves upon this island.

The whispered words that slipped from the Aralez's lips caught her attention, and the gem peered toward her with a nod. Greet-gift. She understood that, and made a mental note in her mind, hoping she'd remember. Just as she was prepared to make a respond, Droman danced with excitement, gazing out at the water. It took a moment for the Renoda girl to locate the source of his excitement, but once she did a great grin spread out across her maw.

RE: I pray for the wicked on the weekend - Coelacanth - May 18, 2018

Coelacanth stretched her forelimbs and flexed her toes with a yawn and a wriggle for good measure, pleased with the way things seemed to be turning out. Their visit with the wolves of Ironsea had gone as well as she’d hoped, and she felt certain that seeing Titmouse, Constantine, and Durnehviir again would be a joyous occasion — well worth waiting for. For now, she and the other seawolves would relax and reacquaint themselves with the island that had remained uninhabited for the duration of their absence. It seemed to Seelie that the isle had been waiting.

“See that?” exclaimed Hemlock’s son, and the sheepdog bounded to her paws with unfeigned interest, tufted ears sweeping forward upon her skull. She followed the young wolf to the water’s edge, her Neptune eyes falling upon the fins that sliced through the surface, but kept a close eye on him. “Care,” she bade him in a soft whisper, before recalling that the word she sought was, “careful.” Gently, she made to nose at his cheek. The water was deceptively calm right now, but all it took was one good riptide to drown a puppy — even one as near to adulthood as Droman was.

RE: I pray for the wicked on the weekend - Salazar - May 19, 2018

For a moment, Droman was able to watch without caution, but it was Annie's warning over his shoulder and her gentle touch to his cheek that remninded him to take a few steps back. It was difficult living on the island; the view was great, but you could only ever watch from a distance, and for Droman, this was excrutiating. I wasn't gonna fall in, he muttered with a sigh before turning back to watch the show safely between his two elders.

I wonder what they're doing out there.

RE: I pray for the wicked on the weekend - Coelacanth - June 16, 2018

Although Droman didn’t seem particularly pleased with her presence, Coelacanth offered him a lopsided smile. Just what did the little scientist think they were doing out there? She believed that the ruddy little wolf — who was already on his way to outweighing her in size and stature — would one day wish to stretch his legs off island as so many others did, and the thought made her a little sad. “What do you dream?” she breathed softly, bumping the bridge of her muzzle companionably against the underside of his chin. The word she’d meant was “think” but no matter what he answered, she would be an active listener, curious about his theories and his thoughts.
