ingwaz; the beginning of something - Kaylan - April 18, 2018

He inhaled, invigorated by the chilled air rushing through his nostrils. Instinctively, he knew he was nearing his birthplace— perhaps another week at most, much less if he did not rest— and in his bones, Kaylan felt that he was coming home. It was oddly sentimental and entirely irrational, but such was the effect of nostalgia on even the most stoic of creatures. He made a rumbling sound of contentment.

A large swath of snow-covered plains stretched out before him, heavy and wet from the reluctant spring weather. He angled towards the mountains in the distance, eyes blinking against the reflected sunlight, and began his journey toward the coastline.

The female had left those males back behind as she ventured off further towards a place even she did not know. She hoped that one day she might come across her sister but the odds of that happening were vague. She was interested in exploring this new land and meeting the people within it. Though her latest encounters, she knew that her mother would not approve of it. But, in her eyes, she saw no one who would stop her.

He continued to make his way through the snow, his focus directed only on making his way across the plain; he shut out other distractions, eager to make his way to shelter before night fell. It wasn't that the beast feared being caught in the open— he was an apex predator, after all— but other lone wolves weren't trustworthy. Kaylan had learned this over the years, and would not allow himself to be caught off guard.

It was lucky, then, that a dark figure cut into his field of view off in the distance or he would have been caught unaware. He paused in his movements, debating whether to continue on his path (which would surely intersect with the other) or skirt around, but with a rumbling sigh, he resumed his trek without altering his path. A brief encounter wouldn't waylay him too badly, and he had no qualms about immediately leaving if the conversation wasn't worth his time.

The female noticed someone or something up ahead and her body immediately tensed up as she kept her guard up just in case this creature was hostile. She had no idea why she felt the need to do this but it felt necessary. "Hello, may I help you?" She tried to not sound so rude as she spoke. Just straight to the point.
