brick upon brick and up goes the building - Coelacanth - April 26, 2018 Backdated to April 17, 2018. Anyone want to come along for a successful hunt? Coelacanth is in the first phase of her heat and is NOT considered fertile. “During proestrus, the start of the estrous cycle, the bitch attracts male dogs, but is still not receptive to breeding.” This phase will last through April 20, 2018. TRAVEL LOG April 13, 2018: Sea Lion Shores April 14, 2018: Horizon Ridge April 15, 2018: Raven’s Watch April 16, 2018: Hushed Willows April 16 — 18, 2018: Morningside Knowing that her time with Catori was limited and that she had been away from her island for far too long, Coelacanth awoke with a certain restlessness. She was grateful for Grayday’s invitation to stay the night and longed to repay his kindness by stocking the caches, but at forty-five pounds soaking wet, she would be hard-pressed to take down anything of note. Ranging eastward from the territory, she managed to come across a young mountain goat to whom life had not been kind. A jagged gash down its left forelimb had started to blacken and dry into leathery, necrotic strips, and the remainder of the limb up to the axillary region was edematous, the skin a garish purplish-red. Using a mixture of nipping at its heels and evading its half-hearted charges, Coelacanth herded the thing back to Morningside territory — but she could not call for help. She could only hope that one of Grayday’s wolves would come along and see what an opportunity was laid before them. In the interim, while she waited, she circled the goat relentlessly, working on keeping it nearby without driving it too far within the territory. Despite her affinity with the Morningsiders, she wasn’t certain of her welcome in terms of leaving the territory and waltzing right back in — and anyway, there were still many wolves here she didn’t know. Perhaps the goat knew it was doomed; though it still eyed her testily, it stood where she’d driven it and stopped trying to escape and return home. RE: brick upon brick and up goes the building - Sunny - May 19, 2018 Having finally seen his baby siblings for the first time his spirits were soaring and with it his energy. He headed out to patrol along the borders, catching wind of a familiar scent that brought a surge of childlike happiness with it. He sped up his walking and spotted Coelacanth up ahead with a strange looking animal nearby. Ears perking he chuffed and gave a slow wag, eyes moving from the black female to the goat with interest. He moved so he blocked any escape routes and scanned it over, spotting the injured leg. "If you distract it, I can rush and tackle. Then both of us can go in for the kill. It won't be able to fend off the two of us." He spoke quickly, deciding that a simple plan would work to end the already injured goat's life. Even so he looked to Coelacanth for agreement, giving her a warm smile. RE: brick upon brick and up goes the building - Coelacanth - May 24, 2018 Coelacanth regarded the sterling-furred wolf out of the corner of her eye, her carriage dipping submissively until, “Sunny!” she recognized with delight. Her Neptune eyes brightened cheerfully as her young cousin drew nearer. It wasn’t second nature for her to see him as such a tall, handsome wolf! She remembered him fondly as a youthful adolescent, dwarfed in size by his father — and more recently, as a honed down wolf recovering from illness. It always gave her a start to see how strong and handsome he had become. Consumed by her current task, she could not rush to greet him as she normally did, but she settled for a full body wriggle that ended in an explosive tail wag. The accomplished young hunter laid out a battle plan of sorts, and Coelacanth nodded firmly — she’d have preferred at least one other wolf as backup given her small stature, but if Sunny thought they could do it, surely they could! When she wished, the Groenendael could be a formidable weapon of mass distraction — and she leapt into motion immediately at his behest. Speedy paws carried her in a tachyonic zig-zag; she was fast even for her breed and zipped merrily in and out, taunting the goat to keep its sights trained on her. The fever-ridden animal was easily distracted from the lethal force Sunny offered — Coelacanth avoided lunging at him outright to keep out of reach of those horns, but made several sweeping motions to turn him and keep him turning, his beady, dark eyes ever on her. The only thing she lacked was a good Annoying Bork, which would also have counted in her favor in terms of distraction and redirection. Thankfully, she was irritating enough without it. RE: brick upon brick and up goes the building - Sunny - June 03, 2018 She agreed with his plan and immediately set out to do her part. For a moment Sunny stood and watched as she was a speedy shadow darting all around their prey, so nimble and quick that even in silence the goat couldn't look away in fear she'd be the one to lunge in and attack. Snapping out of his impressed daze he growled and lunged forward, barreling into the side of the goat and shoving with his full weight. Under the force of his size the goat lost balance and fell over, a loud bleat of fear leaving it's throat right before Sunny twisted and went to grab for it's windpipe. He clamped down and squeezed to cut off the air, the goat thrashing beneath him. RE: brick upon brick and up goes the building - Coelacanth - June 08, 2018 Sunny, as a full-blooded wolf, possessed a strength of jaw the sheepdog lacked; she was impressed by the force of his killbite and “howled” her congratulations, muzzle tipping skyward to offer a soft, undulating whisper-whine. To help him, she grabbed and held onto one of the goat’s kicking legs, not wanting him to take hurt after he had so recently — at least, it felt recent to Seelie — recovered from grave illness. When at last the goat stopped moving completely, she released her grip on the goat’s leg and backed away respectfully, with a shooing motion of her fox-fine muzzle that indicated, “Please, you eat first!” Panting lightly with exertion, she gathered her breath to whisper entreatingly, “I — take food, Catori, please?” with what she hoped was a coquettishly appealing tilt of her finely sculpted head. She hoped he would allow her such an honor, but could understand if it was his duty as the pack’s lead hunter; after all, she was only a guest here. RE: brick upon brick and up goes the building - Sunny - June 24, 2018 One of the things that Sunny loved most about his Aunt was her almost vocalizations, they were adorable. Maybe it was weird to find her adorable, but he did even so. He released the still goat and licked his lips, he looked at her with a silent grin and wagged his tail. Upon her motions he lowered himself to eat from the chest cavities, taking his fill before opening the ribcage where the richest tidbits lay. It was when Seelie spoke that he gave a startled look upward. He had never heard her speak actual words before "Aunt Seelie! You learned to talk? That's amazing!" he said warmly and gave little wiggles of his tail. He then nodded his consent and tore out chunks of rich meat and tossed them to the sheepdog. "You should eat too" he said perking his ears expectantly. RE: brick upon brick and up goes the building - Coelacanth - June 28, 2018 “I talk!” the Groenendael agreed in a breathy whisper, her tail wriggling eagerly. Learning under duress was still learning. She ridded herself of Atshen’s memory with a vigorous shake and reveled instead in how kind and gallant Sunny had grown to be. She would never be entirely fluent in the common tongue — the wolves she surrounded herself with didn’t make it a necessity — but what she could say was enough to get her point across even amongst strangers, most of the time. The sheepdog’s nerves were jumping and jangling so much that she didn’t think it was possible for her to eat and keep anything down, but the expectant expression on her young cousin’s face and the perk of his ears made it impossible to deny hm. She settled down with her portion and nibbled at it, making polite conversation with the young hunter until finally they parted ways. The liver was still warm when she withdrew it from the carcass, and in time, they went their separate ways — Sunny to store the goat meat in Morningside’s caches; and Seelie to bring her gift to Catori. |
