cash in the bank - Tegan - June 16, 2018

FINALLY getting this up so sorry. backdated hella. niamh is included but don't feel obligated to post!!!

and so, finally, tegan and @Niamh arrived home. the pair dumped the crabs they'd dragged home in one part of the lake, blocking them off with large stones and sticks to make a sort of cage. of course, the creatures would probably die (if they weren't already dead) since it was freshwater but... i mean what did the yearlings know about that-- the answer is nothing, spoiler alert.

after that, tegan hightailed his butt to see @Raven (and maybe @Quixote, if he was around) to report back. cause tegan had done a damn good job getting to draegda and delivering news-- and he even had news to deliver back to raven! god he was such a good fuckin scout. hell yeah. fuck yeah. YEAH. clover and fiadh couldn't do shit compared to him.

so he followed after his alpha's scent, tail waving as he spotted the black she-wolf in the distance, barking loudly to grab her attention. "raven!" he chirped, bowing his head a little in general respect for her rank, "i'm home!!"

RE: cash in the bank - Raven - June 16, 2018

She was on her way back from the thicket with a newly-picked batch of medicinal plants and herbs she intended to dry for later use when a familiar voice interrupted the afternoon calm. She felt a sudden lurch of excitement. Tegan's back! She whirled to face him, a wide grin on her face, and -- dropping the cluster of plants and tucking them aside so they wouldn't scatter -- quickly loped toward him. She had waited with anticipation for the boy's return, her nerves on edge the entire time as she worried for his safety, and she was eager to hear how his trip had gone and if there was any news from her sister.

As she approached him, she wagged her tail and touched his muzzle with hers in a gesture of greeting and friendship. "Hey! Welcome home, Tegan!" she said, her voice almost breathless with relief and excitement at the sight of him. She'd been so paranoid of something happening to him that seeing him home safe was a huge weight off her back.

aw! raven was so cute! and that's mostly coming from me but tegan actually genuinely appreciated the look of relief and excitement on her face. the blackthorn accepted her affection and returned it with a nudge to her shoulder and a quick lick to her chin. and then, when all the friendly reunion stuff was all done for, tegan backed up and puffed up a little in some random attempt to be formal.

"i got news from drageda," he announced cordially, and then waited for raven to ask what it was before continuing.

She recognized Tegan's switch from informal friendliness to formal business, and she stepped back and sat down, her expression interested and attentive. "Let's hear it, then," she said with a grin, eager to hear what tidings her sister had shared. If there was one thing she was acutely aware of lately, it was how much she missed Wildfire and wished she were here.

"so first of all, wildfire says hi, and congrats, and all the lovey sister things," he said, breaking some ice really quickly. his tail tapped as he thought on what he'd tell her next, opting to go with the litter that wildfire had just had! because like, that's exciting, right? "wildfire had a litter recently too-- two boys and two girls. bat, silkie, kiwi, and tux!" he informed her, his tail wagging happily. pups were cool, kinda lame or whatever but they made evereyone else happy.

and then he broke some news. "but, wildfire also said she wasn't going to be traveling anymore, even when her litter is older. she didn't say why," he added with his ears angled towards her, "but maybe one day i can escort you and your litter to visit drageda?"

Riven digested the news with a mixture of emotions. She chuckled at Tegan's mention of "lovey sister things", finding his boyish aversion to all things sentimental to be rather endearing. Her heart sailed with joy at the mention of Wildfire's recent litter, and she wished with a pang of regret that they lived closer so that their children could grow up knowing one another. But it was in that vein that Tegan delivered the painful part: Wildfire would no longer travel, regardless of the presence or absence of maternal obligations holding her down.

Much as it disappointed Raven to hear that, she understood. Wildfire was a Redhawk, but only by blood. She had forged a life for herself elsewhere, with a mate, a family, and a pack to which she was dedicated. In so many ways, their lives exhibited a strange sort of symmetry, and while Raven didn't like the prospect of not seeing her sister, she couldn't blame Wifi either. Tegan offered to escort her and her kids there eventually, and the alpha smiled and nodded -- but it would never happen, she felt. Drageda was simply too far away for a casual family vacation, and her responsibilities to her own pack required that she remain here at home. But she didn't bore Tegan with those details. "Thank you, Tegan -- so much -- for doing this for me. I didn't ask that favor of you lightly, knowing how far away Drageda is, but you did a fantastic job and I am grateful to you. How was the trip there and back?"

"it's no big, for real raven," tegan said with a shake of his head, though he quite loved the idea that a wolf might possibly be indebted to him. not that he'd ever take up a debt with raven-- like have you met the gal? nicest in the world, anyone mean to raven deserved their dick bitten by a mongoose.

"it was fun! i liked having niamh with me-- we could hunt and talk and all that stuff. didn't really encounter any sort of problems," he then said with a shrug. nope, no problems this go around. when he went to morningside tegan had started to starve himself, whoops, but with niamh's help he stayed fat and happy. "thanks for trusting me to go," tegan added kind of suddenly, a little bashfully, and with a duck of his head.

RE: cash in the bank - Raven - July 12, 2018

Sorry for the lengthy wait while I was on vacation! <3 We can wrap this if you want.

She nodded, glad their trip had gone smoothly and without any problems. Considering the miles that stretched between the plateau and Drageda's sea cliffs, Raven had optimistically hoped that would be the case...but reality didn't often cooperate. However, fortune had been in their favor this time, and she was glad that Tegan had enjoyed the trip and successfully returned appearing healthy and happy. It had also given him an opportunity to prove himself as both a member of their pack and a capable ambassador. It showed that he possessed the maturity and responsibility to get a job done when it needed doing.

"You're welcome," she responded to his thanks, waving her tail. "I'm glad you enjoyed it and did so well. It's good to have a trusty ambassador in the pack." While hunters, guardians, and puppysitters were crucial to a pack's survival, there was a lot to be said for the subtler, less glorified roles a wolf could play. Her own was a good example of that.
