eyes on the ground but I can't look up now; don't wanna give it away, my secret - Remi - July 05, 2018 Her mouth parted in a yawn as she woke that morning, tiny salmon tongue curling out and up. Her head bobbed around and she blinked.... and for the first time saw the gold of her sister's pelt, as indistinct as her form was to her developing eyes; and she saw their mother curled around them; she saw her brother beside her, and her other sister beside him. From the mouth of the den, she perceived daylight brighter than it had ever been and squinted into it. She was dumbfounded for but a few moments. Then, little Remi was overcome with energetic joy. She announced this of course, as only Remi does: with a progressive series of squeaks and chirps that quickened in tempo and rose in a excited crescendo as she looked around at her family. I see you! RE: eyes on the ground but I can't look up now; don't wanna give it away, my secret - Breccan - July 06, 2018 What perfect timing! Breccan, too, was experiencing the miracle of sight for the first time alongside his sister. His eyes had opened overnight, during the wee hours of the morning, but as it had been relatively dark, he hadn't exactly registered his newfound sense and had promptly gone back to sleep. But now that the sun had risen, and his siblings were beginning to stir, he woke up and stretched, his eyelids parting slowly. He was lying on his back, so for a few minutes, he gazed quietly at the ceiling, simply taking it all in. When Remi began sharing her exciting news vocally, he turned his head and blinked at her. She was a little blurry around the edges, but he watched as she opened and closed her mouth and looked around excitedly. RE: eyes on the ground but I can't look up now; don't wanna give it away, my secret - Deshyr - July 06, 2018 Of all the cubs, Deshyr was the most content with her lot in life. When another fussed, she did what she could to roll away from the drama. When hungry, she found a teat and ate her fill. When tired, she slept. Other than that, she really was not up to much besides snuggling against her siblings when they weren't moving. She appreciated their warmth, but other than that this was life as she knew it. Until today. Today, the normalcy that was darkness was interrupted. She opened her eyes and flinched: weird. Very weird. Blinking gave her some vertigo, and Deshyr rolled onto her side. She could hardly hear Remi, but that was not to say she couldn't—she was far more focused at her world being entirely upended and (oh, no, we're still rolling) flipped upside down. The normally quiet DJ was very still and very quiet for three seconds more before releasing a shriek of displeasure. ARAHG, AMJANA AKMG AGK AHH!!Translated to: HEY, A LITTLE HELP OVER HERE!!!!! RE: eyes on the ground but I can't look up now; don't wanna give it away, my secret - Rannoch’s Ghost - July 10, 2018 Rannoch jolted awake from a deep sleep; the children were revolting. With his heart hammering, the father-of-four surveyed the children that wriggled at Liffey's side. He realized the cause of the commotion, and he instantly froze—a majority of his children could see. It was nothing short of a miracle that it had all happened at once, too. "Breccan, Deej, Remi," the father crooned as he leaned over the barricade that divided him. "Looks like you've discovered the world. I'm so proud of all of you." Rannoch then leaned his head on his wife's shoulder and bid the gaggle an encouraging boof—"come meet me!", his expression encouraged. RE: eyes on the ground but I can't look up now; don't wanna give it away, my secret - Wisp - July 15, 2018 Let me tell you the story of a young wolf pup experiencing their first look at the world. The play of light against the grey-gold ceiling of the den, smudgy and indistinct within a squinted gaze, was like a whole world of discovery by itself. Every shadow was a vast canyon, every blip of light a new planet. The turn of a head brought other things into the picture: brilliant daylight brushed in wide strokes along the den's floor, streaming in from a mountainside sunrise; the lift and fall of a sibling's ribcage as they sucked in their breath, at once excited and unsure; the chirrup of sound from their lips as they gazed around, drinking in everything they could now see, and forming their first memorable connection with those who would share their lives.
That was not Wisp's story. Wisp, unlike her siblings, did not open her eyes that morning. While Remi and Breccan and Deshyr stirred around her, awed by their new and expanded world, and while Rannoch whispered unheard words of praise and acknowledgement to them and bent to peer into their tiny eyes, Wisp remained ignorant to it all. She shuffled away from the bustling bodies, seeking the solitude she preferred, and buried her pugged nose into Liffey's ankle. There was nary the flutter of an eyelid to suggest she would soon follow her siblings in their development; no sir, little Wisteria was content to keep her eyes glued shut for quite a while yet. Probably more of a cameo because Wisp isn't going to get development in this thread like the rest of the pups, so skip me freely! I may post once or twice more for narration if there's a good opportunity to jump in but that's all. RE: eyes on the ground but I can't look up now; don't wanna give it away, my secret - Remi - July 21, 2018 She wanted to play. She wanted to explore. But her sister's upset squawking had her immediate attention. It alarmed Remi, who immediately swept to her side, bringing her celebratory squeaks and chirps down to a soothing murmur. The silver girl laid a puppy-short but slender leg over @Deshyr, nuzzling into her cheek to comfort her. RE: eyes on the ground but I can't look up now; don't wanna give it away, my secret - Breccan - July 26, 2018 Although Deshyr’s yelping was loud, even to Breccan’s small, folded ears, he ignored it. (Paying his sisters no mind was a skill he would continue to hone as he aged.) He glanced over at her for a few seconds, watching as she flailed on her back and then observing as Remi moved to comfort her, then he turned his blue eyes to Daddy, who was beckoning them toward him. Breccan’s tail began to swing madly behind him as he trundled toward his parents. He imitated Rannoch’s boof sound with one of his own. RE: eyes on the ground but I can't look up now; don't wanna give it away, my secret - Deshyr - July 27, 2018 Their father stirred – nuzzling his mate lovingly as they looked upon their brood. His voice rumbled soothingly, but it didn’t assist her current predicament, and her pale paws continued to sway in the air as she grunted, trying to right herself back to her side. As she began to jostle from one pudgy side to the next, Deshyr might have been gaining some momentum when a gentle hushing enveloped her, and Remi splayed a limb upon her. It ceased her attempt – but that mattered little when the warmth of her sister pressed against her, and sighing softly. Her eyes blinking as she looked to Remi’s face studiously, Deshyr elicited a gentle croon: 'Mrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiip,' as if singing back to her milkmate. RE: eyes on the ground but I can't look up now; don't wanna give it away, my secret - Rannoch’s Ghost - July 30, 2018 Remi succeeded in comforting Deshyr—their hugging and chirping manage to stir a sense of warmth from within his bosom. He was reminded of Cypress, and how close they used to be; he can't help but yearn for his wayward sibling for a brief, fleeting moment. Rannoch would do everything that he could to make sure that his children were not separated. Rannoch's repentance was distracted by Breccan, who had echoed his previous invitation. He smiled and nodded encouragingly. "Very good, Breccan!" he praised. Despite his current conversation with his son, Rannoch's attention was divided between his active brood. The father dotted upon his brood as their needs were voiced. Rannoch engaged them, and tested out their new abilities; he had never been more proud of anything in his life. The ability of sight proved to be tiresome, and eventually, the gang huddled together and took a well-deserved nap. |
