even if the topic feels like science class - Bat - July 10, 2018

The July sun beat down mercilessly, forcing Bat to seek the cool gloom of Hougeda. She stretched out on the floor of the cavern, her pale belly flush with the damp stone. It was much easier to sleep in here, though she woke after about an hour of drowsing and padded back outdoors. Squinting against the sun, the Goufa searched for a private place to answer the call of nature.

Once she finished toileting, she considered heading back inside. But a distant roll of thunder caused her huge ears to wobble. Bat began heading in the direction of the forest in the hopes of obtaining a better view of the sky and the incoming tempest. She had just walked past the tree line when she spotted a familiar red figure up ahead. "Hey, mama!" she called, trotting closer, only to realize her mistake: it wasn't Wildfire but, instead, her older sister, @Blixen.

RE: even if the topic feels like science class - Blixen - July 17, 2018

she'd done what she set out to do and yet in drageda she finds herself listless, restless, thoughts drawn relentlessly toward a group of girls on the plateau. blixen is a homebody and has always been -- drageda is her life. but part of her thinks, yearns: what if, what if...

her thoughts are interrupted by a tiny voice calling her mama -- surprised she turns, seeing bat. "easy mistake, kiddo," the shilkru teases, smiling. right, bat... she's gotta keep an eye on bat. lazybones. "whatcha up to today?" the incoming storm goes ignored for now -- hougeda is close enough she can beat a retreat if she needs to.

RE: even if the topic feels like science class - Bat - July 19, 2018

She felt a little discombobulated by the mistake, though Blixen quickly reassured her. Bat favored her elder sister with a crooked smile, then pointed her nose to the darkening skies over yonder. "Gonna storm," she said, her voice no louder than usual but filled with vehemence. Another low rumble of thunder sounded as if to agree with her astute assessment. "Wanna find a spot to watch."

Bat cocked her head at Blixen, big ears tilting endearingly. What was she doing? Perhaps she'd like to come along? Mama and nomi would probably prefer it if she didn't go wandering around by herself anyway. "Wanna come?"

RE: even if the topic feels like science class - Blixen - July 19, 2018

the intensity with which bat seems to regard the storm is a little surprising and sort of amusing to blix, who really carried very little interest in the natural besides her odd pechance for gardening. still, she's not doing anything else, so: "yeah, sure," she agrees, "where d'you have in mind?" blix is content to let her little sis take the lead, glad, frankly, to see some spark of activity in her after all.

RE: even if the topic feels like science class - Bat - July 24, 2018

Blixen agreed readily enough and Bat favored her with a grin, which transformed into more of an "o" shape at the subsequent question. She blinked, considering. "Umm, I dunno," she admitted, then looked at the Shilkru imploringly. "Will you help me find a good spot?"

RE: even if the topic feels like science class - Blixen - July 29, 2018

oh jeez how can she say no to that face? blixen has no idea what a good spot to watch a storm would be, but she was thinking of going somewhere anyway, so -- "yeah, sure," she says, "why don't we go this way?" this time she does not pick up bat as she starts to move, figuring her little sister will put the effort in to find a good storm watching spot (weird hobby but if it keeps her active, blix will take it). the direction she goes is towards the garden, figuring it lands close enough to the cliffs to be able to see the storm over the coast (and also she's been meaning to check on the garden anyway).

RE: even if the topic feels like science class - Bat - August 01, 2018

Blixen took the lead and Bat bobbed her head, happily striding after her older sister, big ears bouncing with every step, with an extra quiver whenever another peal of thunder rolled through the skies. Her attention was directed mostly upward, which caused her to bump into Blixen when the red Shilkru stopped by a patch of earth with a decent view of the coastline.

Bat's gaze dropped for a second as she said, "Oops, sorry," and backed up a step. She glanced idly over their surroundings, intending to quickly return her attention to the incoming thunderstorm. But something caught her eye. "What is this?" she wondered, peering over the garden.

RE: even if the topic feels like science class - Blixen - August 04, 2018

bat bumps into her, making her laugh a little at the sight of her big ears bobbing around. she follows her sister's gaze to the garden, expression brightening a little when she says "that's the garden." curiously she bumps her nose against bat. "there's lot of cool plants there. d'you wanna check it out?"

RE: even if the topic feels like science class - Bat - August 06, 2018

She had seen all sorts of plants before—she was a wolf, after all, living in the wilderness—but there was something different about this plot of ground. It looked... Bat stuck her tongue in her cheek as she tried to come up with a word. Arranged, she eventually decided, letting out a puff of breath as if it had put quite the strain on her to unearth the right term.

"Garden?" she echoed Blixen, unfamiliar with the word. "How'd it get—?" she wondered, motioning at the arrangement of it all. There was a very curious expression on the young Goufa's face as she looked to her older sister for answers, though half her attention remained upon the gathering storm overhead, as evidenced by the occasional quiver of her ears.

RE: even if the topic feels like science class - Blixen - August 10, 2018

blix watches bat's little face, almost able to see the gears turning in her brain. it's cute, she decides, smiling when she finally asks about it. "y'know, i'm not sure," the shilkru admits, glancing at the sky as a particularly ominous crackle of thunder rolls by, "a -- former kru showed me it and taught me a little about takin' care of it, but i dunno who started it in the first place." blix had sort of just assumed it'd always been here, but that's silly -- someone must have taken the first steps. hux himself, maybe?

with a cheerful bounce she steps towards the garden, not minding if bat follows or not (it's not as if it's fenced off, after all -- wolves). there's still some debris from the long winter, mostly rotted plants, which she starts to push around, leaving it to decompose into the soil again without suffocating the new spring blooms poking through. a few fat raindrops start to fall, smacking her in the nose -- she pauses, looking toward bat and the sky, wondering what kind of show there'll be to watch.

RE: even if the topic feels like science class - Bat - August 13, 2018

Blixen didn't know the origin of the garden, though she was clearly involved with it presently. Bat continued to gaze over it for a long moment, intrigued but kind of unsure what to make of it. Eventually, she had to simply ask outright, "What's it for?"

But before her older sister could explain the garden's purpose, a great peal of thunder clapped directly overhead, so deafeningly loud that Bat's ears folded in on themselves. She stood her ground, however, unperturbed despite the loud noise even as she let out a long, low, "Whoooa."

RE: even if the topic feels like science class - Blixen - August 20, 2018

oh. good question. 'it's pretty," blix answers, shrugging. it's not the sort of thing she's thought particularly hard about -- the shilkru is not a particularly deep or inquisitive mind. she's sort of a simple jock lesbian is the thing. "i think it makes the graveyard look nicer, too, like, a tribute," she adds a moment later -- but bat's attention is caught by the storm, a clap of thunder canceling out her attempted explanation and making her jump. the ill effects of her tussle with the bear are all but faded by now, but sudden loud noises still put her on edge (not to mention, make her think of furi of all things).

actually she's a little envious of her sister's cool interest. collecting herself she takes a seat by her, glancing up toward the sky. "you like this stuff, huh?"

RE: even if the topic feels like science class - Bat - August 23, 2018

The thunder rumbled into silence, for the moment, and Bat glanced at Blixen with a grin. "Yeah," she said with understated enthusiasm. She then paused, mentally backpedaling a bit, and wondered, "What's a graveyard? And a tribune?"

A flash of lightning forked through the sky, brightening the swiftly dimming air, though this time, the Goufa kept her focus on her sister.

RE: even if the topic feels like science class - Blixen - September 03, 2018

she's never seen bat look so hyped up -- for her, anyway. it's pretty charming. how productive it is will be another story (blix can't help but worry a little for her seemingly lazy sister). for now at least she has bat's attention. "the graveyard's where we bury our wolves when they die," she answers, "a tribute is like -- a thing you do to celebrate something. their memory in this case, yeah?" smiling she taps the ground with her paw, pushing the budding flowers forward -- they're still young and tender, but hopefully soon the garden will start to look like a proper garden once again.

RE: even if the topic feels like science class - Bat - September 05, 2018

Some might have felt spooked about standing near a resting place for the dead, especially in these conditions. But Bat only found this information intriguing. "There are dead people underneath us right now?" she sought to verify, now peering down at the dirt as if she might see through the soil to the corpses hidden beneath it.

Before Blixen could answer that, heaven's floodgates opened abruptly, dumping a veritable deluge on their heads. It would've made a lot of sense to seek cover, though Bat remained rooted to the spot, even giving a happy whoop that could be heard faintly over the pounding rain.

RE: even if the topic feels like science class - Blixen - September 20, 2018

once again the weather wins her sister's attention -- well. it's cute how excited she is, even if it means standing in the damn rain like a fool. resigning herself to her watery fate, blix takes a seat and says "yeah, basically," though she's not actually sure whereabouts the bodies are buried (or how long they've been buried, come to think of it.) "maybe they'll get washed up!" she adds cheerfully, trying to spook bat more than anything else.

RE: even if the topic feels like science class - Bat - September 21, 2018

Blixen confirmed her suspicions, then said the bodies might "wash up," which Bat didn't follow. She tried for a moment to parse the meaning, then gave up. Simultaneously, the storm began to blow itself out. It had come and gone much too rapidly for her tastes, though that was the way of the summer storm. There would be others where that one came from.

"I'm gonna go back to Hougeda now," the Goufa announced, giving her body a little shake to get rid of some of the water weight. "See you later, Blixen." She gave the waterlogged garden/graveyard an absent final glance before meandering away in the direction of the caves.
