Four and twenty blackbirds - Thresher - July 27, 2018

When the little pearl awoke, she stretched and yawned, little pink tongue curling up toward the dark roof of her mouth and her little nose scrunching up in a way that was most adorable. She was the first to wake up, but she didn’t cause a ruckus. The mild-mannered girl didn’t leave the densite either, and instead contentedly stayed at her mother’s side, laying like a pudgy little sphynx and gazed toward the den’s mouth. She was still but a child, but somehow knew patience.

Once the family roused, Thresher was the last to really get moving, and tentatively, as always, made her way toward the bright light of the outdoors. Several looks of concern were given to her parents, matched with envious gazes toward her braver siblings. While she wasn’t scared, per say, to venture far from the den, she did bear a certain resistance toward new things, and a penchant for avoiding adventure by busying herself with the mundane. Simply laying down by one parents’ side, copying their position perfectly and enjoying the morning’s warmth was enough for her, as she lived vicariously through the silly antics of her siblings.

it has taken longer than reed means but she is good on her promise to coelacanth to come visit, carving a space between speech therapy with @Mou & ensuring @Maegi's continued return to health to come by the den.

she carries some mint in her mouth, something for the babies to chew on that won't upset their stomachs, and lays it in the entrance as she lowers herself to greet the babies and their parents, her attention drawn to little thresher lingering behind. "hello," she cooes (see, she is capable of softness), "i have a present for you, dear one."

RE: Four and twenty blackbirds - Koi - August 03, 2018

One of the sheepdog’s tufted ears cupped toward Reed automatically. She was sprawled on her side, the slow, even rise and fall of her concave flank indicating that she was fast asleep — but she roused enough to offer a few lazy thumps of her tail and a sleepy smile before drifting off again. Stockholm, on the other hand, was very much awake and happy to see Hemlock’s daughter: “Good morning, Reed,” he rumbled warmly, casting a look of fond reassurance to his pale daughter. “Look, Thresher. Do you remember Reed from the Mitexi? Want to go see what’s she got there?”

From between a multicolored knot of sweetly scented fuzz — white and gold entwined with charcoal and silver — emerged a puppy whose ears were still folded over. Owed to her domesticated phenotype, her ears wouldn’t match her siblings’ for at least another week, if not longer — but this didn’t seem to impede her hearing. In fact, at the sound of Reed’s voice, the blue-black pearl had immediately stirred and begun her sojourn, only to stop short at the sound of Stockholm’s gentle rumble. A delighted chirp trilled within the column of her throat as she sought to lap eagerly at his chin and mouth, but she was a baby and easily distracted — a piping, melodic coo hummed from her smiling mouth (“Sister!”) as she nuzzled Thresher’s cheek.

If Thresher needed reassurance, Koi was here to provide it!

RE: Four and twenty blackbirds - Thresher - August 05, 2018

When another wolf arrived, Thresher’s small, soft ears perked up, and immediately, she looked up to her father to gauge his reaction. The female was familiar- but still, she would feed off her father’s response first. He spoke, his tone warm and gentle, and she wriggled with delight when he looked down and spoke to her. She recognized her own name, of course- though as far as she knew, she had two- Thresher and Treasure, and her father and mother addressed her by those names respectively. A few other words stuck out, but Thresher was more struck by the friendliness in his tone than the words that he spoke.

The female had brought something with her, and it had been indicated both by Reed and Stockholm that the leafy thing was for her. She uttered a hopeful, breathy whine, and looked back and forth from Reed to her father. He was encouraging her, this she knew, and though she had every ounce of faith in him, she was still tentative. Eager, yes, but shy.

Her dark sister, bolder and friendlier than she, licked and begged for Stockholm’s attention for a moment before the shy little lookalike was noiced, and with her sweet, silly nuzzles, a silent, almost hiccup-like laughter was provoked from the dark-muzzled girl. She uttered a series of little huffs and nuzzled her sister’s cheek, before she looked past Koi’s shaded body and back toward Reed again with soft, dark blue eyes. She wanted to approach the friendly looking female, but Thresher was the sort of oup that needed to be asked more than once.

sweet things, gentle things, reed did not know she could feel so tender. stockholm introduces her (she casts him a warm look, obscured by the den's lighting, blessedly) and she creeps forward just slightly, amused as the disturbance rouses another and reed is greeted by a series of trills -- or rather their pater is, as the medic watches the sweetly unfolding scene.

thresher -- that's the name stockholm gives -- is looking to her, clearly wanting  but hesitating. the fearghal hums and nudges the mint forward once again, tapping the soft ground with one terracotta paw. "it's okay," she cooes, "you can have it, thresher." and the other, too -- ! though reed does not know her name yet and casts a curious glance to the gampr to see if he will supply the rest of his pearl's titles for her.

RE: Four and twenty blackbirds - Koi - September 02, 2018

Koi burbled a soft, babyish laugh when Thresher’s cold, wet nose made contact with her cheek, a shimmy running down the length of her spine and exploding in a tail-wriggle that knocked her off balance. Unperturbed, she carefully regained her footing, setting her hind legs just a little further apart to hold her up. Her floppy ears perked visibly at the sound of Reed’s voice, and her misty blue gaze swayed unsteadily before fixing upon the young Fearghal’s face. Koi wouldn’t go without Thresher, but she did try to expedite the process, urging her sister on with a wheedling little whine and a few timid steps forward. The pearl was more curious about the gift-giver than the gift itself, but already her nose was working, quivering and twitching as she drew in the unfamiliar, cool-spiced scent.

She was assured once again that the little sprig was for her, and while she looked back to her mother once more, she eventually convinced herself that it was ok, and she could go check out the little plant that Reed had brought for her. Koi urged her to go forward so, sheepishly, she did, sidling toward the ruddy female with a sideways glance and a sort of crab-like walk, shoulder angled toward the female rather than approaching her head-on. Once she got close enough, still very aware of where Koi was, she pivoted slightly, and sniffed the plant.

She'd chewed on grass before, and hadn't particularly liked the taste of it. This was something different though, with little leaves branching off the stem, and it had a smell that she found a touch strong, but definitely interesting. Eyes bright, she looked up at Reed and huffed a silent breath of thanks, lips broadening into a shy smile, before she motioned for Koi to check it out too.

at last they move to accept her gift, and she watches with anticipation as koi chews. warmth fills her chest as it passes inspection, koi beckoning thresher to try it, too. "it's good, right?" reed cooes, tipping forward onto her belly to creep a little closer to them, to watch them as they enjoy the refreshing treat, a smile warming her cold features.

she stretches and rises to her feet, careful not to disturb any of the tiny bodies around her. "i'll come by again soon," she promises, extracting herself with a little farewell nod to stockholm. such sweet, tiny things, puppies. reed can't wait to watch them get older.
