come away, o wolf child! - ThE nArRaToR - August 06, 2018 On the northern face of such a great mountain, not too far from water, a small clearing and a tall tree are all that linger here. The sun shines bright breams, engulfing a massive tree. Seemingly overnight, a crop of mushrooms form a circle in front of the large oak with no explanation. A cold shift in atmosphere is felt upon approach and a strong feeling of do not enter accompanies it, but something else lingers, unexplained and unaffected: a large, misplaced feral cat.
RE: come away, o wolf child! - Llewellyn - August 07, 2018 Tylwyth Teg--the faeries. They held powers even wolves did not, moving from the earthly realm to theirs seamlessly, unseen by all but a few unlucky--or perhaps lucky?--souls. They left few signs of their presence here, save the ominous ring: a cluster of fungi, placed in a circle. Llewellyn has never before seen one, only heard the stories. It sends a shiver down his spine, to see it now, at the northern base of Moonspear. The gilded hairs on his pelt lift without his volition, his hackles rising. He stands just a few paces away from the ring, and yet he takes a few cautionary steps further back. The magic of this place is undeniable; whether good or evil, he does not know. But the wind whistles past his ears. . .and he swears he hears voices within the breeze. So fixated on the evidence of faeries is Llewellyn that he does not notice the cat nearby until it blinks, its tail moving idly. His lips curl in a snarl, for while he hasn't seen the likes of this creature before, either, he knows that its larger cousins can do significant harm. Perhaps it is more afraid of him--he takes no risks, here. He gives a single, warning bark, ears rotating backwards. He cuts a sharp figure against the wilderness, defender of his new home. Run now, cat, or you will never run again. It seems silly to make such an effort on account of a relatively small feline--but the faerie ring has caught Llewellyn off-guard. He has naught but aggression now, spurred by childlike fears of the unknown. RE: come away, o wolf child! - Revui (Ghost) - August 07, 2018 ✴ The boy had been mindlessly keeping to a small area of the mountainside in an effort to patrol it, mark it as his own, and stockpile it with various things that he found interesting. This typically meant that he would steal fragments of bones from kills and then bury them somewhere within the designated soil; today he had found a half-dead little squirrel and had been playing with it (read: terrorizing it) until it looked ready to give up its little ghost, when he was briefly distracted by the commotion of a rising din nearby. Revui did not know the wolf that was barking but he knew the insistence of the tone. With a casual lift-and-toss of the poor little squirrel against a nearby tree, the thing was dead. He would return for it later, but now his interest lay with what was over the next ridge. There was a moment of indecision within Revui as he left his fresh prize. He crossed through a small field of wildly tall grass interspersed with young trees, and came thundering along a winding path, which led to the treeless expanse where the pale wolf was. The boy looked around at the shadows for a moment—curious if anyone else would come to intercept the stranger or whatever had startled them—but ran ahead without slowing. He came upon the stranger's flank with his summer coat bristling. It was at this point he recognized the scent of his parents upon this stranger. So, that meant they were a stranger to him but not to the mountain — a packmate, and one he likely had seen without recognizing on previous days. He ducked to the right of the adult's figure and looked for the target that had them so agitated, at which point he saw the ring of mushrooms. He wasn't aware of the cat. Perhaps Revui should have recognized the musk of the strange animal, but his senses were overwhelmed by the fresh blood that spattered his face from the squirrel. His tail lashed behind him, and he looked from the stranger to the odd concentric growth as if to say, I don't get it. RE: come away, o wolf child! - Llewellyn - August 08, 2018 The footsteps behind him are that of a child's, and Llewellyn spins around, expecting to see one of the two pups he had already met. Not so--this one is gray, male, and bloodied; a cautious sniff revealed that it is squirrel blood that paints the boy's face, not his own. The prince cocks his head in momentary puzzlement, then smiles, realizing his presence must cause the lad some confusion, if he has not seen him before. "I believe we have not yet met," he says rhetorically, bowing his head. His gaze strays, every so often, to the cat, making sure it was not on the prowl. "My name is Llewellyn--I am new to your pack. And you?" He lifts his chin, curious. Then he takes a couple of steps further, although making sure to keep a respectful distance from the boy, who is right to be wary. "Faeries," Llewellyn explains, nodding toward the ring of mushrooms. "They are spirits, not mortals, like you and me. This is where they come to dance, and leave only this behind." Where they go afterwards, he does not know. What would a wolf know of the spirit world, especially one like him? He has never been in-tune with the supernatural, though he clings to the stories like anyone else. Llewellyn glances at the boy, feeling suddenly put on the spot. He does not know how well acquainted the wolves of Moonspear are with folklore. If they have some grasp, do they even pay it mind? Maybe the child thinks him stark raving mad. A great first foot forward, with the youth of his new pack. RE: come away, o wolf child! - Arcturus - August 10, 2018 CRASHING!! but please feel free to skip and PP him if you want to keep it going
arcturus had drifted from revui once the squirrel was caught; for one, revui did not relish the prospect of sharing, nor did arcturus relish the idea of insisting the small creature be shared. he had been nudging the root of a great tree when he heard barking, followed by a thunk, WHACK, and then silence. curious what had made the noise, the boy drifted to where he had last seen revui - only the clearing was empty, and the squirrel abandoned. it was not like revui to cast aside a plaything so idly; arcturus hurried after his brother's scent. he paid little heed to the golden wolf alongside his brother - it was revui he was concerned about, and revui he inspected first. he thrust his nose brusquely into his brother's chin, snuffing the blood and confirming his brother was unarmed. it was then the boy caught a glimpse of the cat. he did not know what it was other than it was smaller than him, and therefore, his to eat. the mushroom rings were ignored (or altogether unobserved), but the cat was not -- arcturus sniffed the air like a slavering hound and then drifted towards it with a hungry poise to his steps. RE: come away, o wolf child! - Llewellyn - September 03, 2018 Eek! Sorry for the wait on this. Forgot Revui had been PPed. Do you wanna keep going or close this up?
The iron-pelted boy gives no answer before another pup--the frog-fisher from the other day--comes onto the scene, sniffing a bit anxiously at the other's fur. Brothers, perhaps? Llewellyn watches them for a long moment before his eyes return to the cat as well; he smiles as Arcturus stalks toward it, looking keen. If frogs were evasive, cats even more so. . .and they had claws and fangs, to boot. His lips curl upwards as he joins Arcturus, a silent, golden shadow behind the young man, a growl bubbling in his throat. The cat spits and hisses, fur puffing out like a cloud around its lithe body. Llewellyn's gaze flashes to his companion, then back to the other, still-nameless child. He doubted a creature this small could do much serious harm to these growing boys, but-- It was in the faery circle. Perhaps it was one of them. And faery creatures reputably had more power than their mortal, earthly counterparts. He barks again at the cat, hoping to scare it away. What happened if you killed a faery? RE: come away, o wolf child! - Arcturus - September 06, 2018 no worries ^^ PPing revui hope that is ok jb!
arcturus had not even noticed the strange, ethereal ring that gathered round him -- if he had, he might have been drawn to curiosity. as it was, the cat was much more compelling and his advance was rewarded with untold bristling; the manner of which arcturus had never seen.
his head bobbed back in surprise and he fixed the cat a level, squinty stare. its fur was at ends, quill-like and tenacious -- but it was the noise that it made that enraptured arcturus the most. he looked to llewellyn briefly as if for support; the male had positioned himself behind arcturus and presently a thick growl rumbled from his throat.
revui, feeling his brother's presence was merit enough to attack whatever that foul being was, surged forward -- arcturus cast an ear back towards the growling adult and then fell in step behind his brother, a faithful, snarling shadow.
the cat was not so bold; with a hissing yowl it bolted off with its tail curled in affront. it had a speed arcturus could not rival, and after a few strides was well beyond the boy's reach. he slowed and sniffed the ground where the cat had tread, yet his brother did not cease his chase and was soon out of view. RE: come away, o wolf child! - Llewellyn - September 11, 2018 gonna exit cuz this ooold
The boys are game enough to chase the beast away; it flees with a shriek, dashing away into the misty morning. They follow, with Arcturus drawing to a halt eventually but the other carrying on, in hot pursuit. Llewellyn watches the spot where he vanishes, blinking slowly, before turning to the ebony child, a grave expression on his face. "Do not stray into the circle," he commands, dipping his muzzle at the fungi. "It is Tylwyth Teg--a place of dark magic. They will take you from your home, and you will never return." With one last glance toward the ring, eyes narrowed in the ultimate wariness, he stalks away, still bristling. There is a hum to the air that he can't explain, and he hopes that Arcturus is right on his heels, heeding his advice to stay clear of the circle. Pups were notoriously obstinate--but if the boy is anything like he had been, as a child, he would leave and not return until the faeries had vanished. Perhaps, though, he would think it an adventure. Llewellyn tries hard, over the next few hours, not to think of the worst possible outcome to this scenario. RE: come away, o wolf child! - Arcturus - September 13, 2018 he drew to a stop, turning aside to the golden-hued gladiator; his eyes curious yet soft. a command issued from llewellyn's lips, forbidding him from crossing the darkly ringed entryway; arcturus flashed the strange arrangement a silent, cursory glance, yet dipped his head in understanding. for the boy, young as they came, was no truant -- he strove for obeisance above all, and upheld the law of his kin as unassailable. llewellyn, no different from the rest of his family and openly accepted, could command the dark cub as he pleased -- and without any further attention given to the faerie circle, arcturus too quit the scene. |
