Repeat - Arbiter - August 12, 2018

Set a few days after the NSV thread.  Making the assumption nothing crazy happens.

Treason was pretty sure that by this point the Pack of Fools had probably moved on -- she was giving them extra time because she really doubted that they were going to be prompt since they didn't strike her as particularly logical.  Hell, the more she thought about it, the more the things they said grated on her nerves -- the disrespect they showed towards the fact she was doing her job as a guardian, that they thought she was lying when she had done nothing but tell the truth, that they apparently thought they deserved the respect from anyone they came across like haughty aristocrats deserving the guillotine.

This was the third time now she was trying to check out the bear situation and since the previous two had been so rudely interrupted first by a different bear and then by the Fools, so maybe this time she could get some answers... Or at least maybe pick up something to eat along the way.  She'd already come across the area where she'd seen Borya and reminded herself of that bear's scent before continuing on into the depths of the vale, searching for a different track along the way.

RE: Repeat - Wraen - August 21, 2018

Wraen had returned to Northstar Vale for different reasons that the Sunspire's guardian. A day or two earlier she had stumbled upon a very well-trodden path left by a herd of mountains goats that went all the way from the higher parts of the mountains down to the forests and meadows in the small valley below. While small prey were hard to get, there was plenty for ruminants to eat. And during tracking Wraen thought that just maybe it would be handy, if wolves could process grass as well. Since it seemed to be always there and everywhere to she looked.

Had she not been distracted by rustling footsteps by a creature she had scared, Wraen would have soon run into Treason. However, now she watched, how a rather awkward black furred figure on the ground ascended rather quickly the nearest trunk of the tree. Curious she drew closer, until she stood right under the tree and was peering up at the fluffy butt of a bear-cub. The idea of, what it really was and what it meant for her, dawned at her a moment later, when she had figured out, what her eyes saw.

RE: Repeat - Arbiter - August 27, 2018

There had been hints of the other bears, but they were old scents.  She'd started to do a sort of grid search to maybe find a more recent scent and had finally locked her nose on to one when she heard some distant shuffling.  Huh.  It didn't cause as much of a racket as she was thinking a big bear would, so maybe it was food.  A deer or something.

Treason continued forward, and though she was wary of the fact the bear had gone the same direction, her ears hadn't lied... Right?  Then again...  It started to prick at her fur.  The scent was stronger.  Then she came around a thicket and spotted Wraen staring... up?  Her cyan eyes tracked up the tree as well.  Oh hell, there was the bear.  The cub.  Wait, where's the mom.

RE: Repeat - Wraen - August 31, 2018

The bear cub was about the same size as Wraen. Maybe a tad bit smaller and it looked down at the staring wolf with a distraught expression, as if he or she could not decide, what to make of the canid and whether something should be done about it.

In the meanwhile, Wraen's heart almost stopped, when she heard the rustling of the grass and leaves and the sound of footfalls, announcing that someone was on their way. She snapped around only to meet Treason face to face. Well, that was a bit of a relief. "Have not seen it around," she replied, looking back at the cub in the tree and then casting a glance around. No sign of the mom. "I probably caught it by surprise."

RE: Repeat - Arbiter - September 01, 2018

Peace wouldn't last, would it?  It couldn't.  It was just a matter of time.  What is it they said about mother bears?  Probably not far, then.  She swept the surroundings for a sign.  Wraen seemed almost beguiled by the cub's presence, or maybe she just had less of a desire to not take chances than Treason did.  The longer she stayed put, the more uneasy she felt.  We should move away, the pale devil hissed, or at least I am.  Not interested in meeting her.  And Treason wasn't going to wait, starting to walk back towards the mountain now that the bears had finally been proven to exist (as far as she knew, though it could very well be a different one, right?).  Her eyes scanned the foliage again as she walked away.

Treason really didn't want to have to pry Wraen out of a bear's jaws, so hopefully she'd give the cub some space as well.  Being found staring up from the bottom of the tree sounded...  Not likely to end well.  They could watch from a distance.  And if Wraen didn't come...?  Well, she'd definitely be questioning the beta's sanity, and whether she was even qualified for her rank (more than she already did).

RE: Repeat - Wraen - September 04, 2018

"Me neither," Wraen turned away from the cub and followed Treason. The more distance they put between the cub and themselves, the better it felt. Autumn - after all - was right at the doorstep and, who knew, how hungry the bears were.

There was an awkward silence, because in the guardian's presence Wraen always felt silly and insignificant. And if it was possible, she avoided the iron lady altogether, preferring the company of those people that were easier to communciate with.

Even now she did not know, what to say or tell, therefore she remained silent, trying to come up with a good and valid reason to go elsewhere.

RE: Repeat - Arbiter - September 06, 2018

Treason felt better once they were a fair distance away from where the cub was treed.  It was unlikely that the mother would bother with them with them this far.  She paused, looking back over her shoulder, saying more to herself than anything, Only took three trips, but I guess that confirms it.  First another bear had interrupted her, then the pack of Fools, then the cub finally made an appearance.

Still don't know why they didn't believe me.  Her lip twitched upwards a moment at the thought.  Then, she looked back to Wraen, searching for affirmation, That's still the only danger that was mentioned, wasn't it? Treason had been gone on these little trips on her own often enough that if something else had been mentioned only once, she very well could have missed it.  She wasn't too keen on Wraen either, but at least she could confirm there wasn't anything else to worry about before they certainly went different directions.

RE: Repeat - Wraen - September 10, 2018

Wraen had not expected for Treason to break the silence, because she had not been going to do it anyway. Now she listened with keen interest and nodded in agreement with the confirmation of bear presence in Northstar vale (and "mhm"ed, as well).

"I would not put too much weight in what others thought about your words. You were right, we - as a pack trust you - and if the rest of the world does not, then it is their loss and problem," she replied. "And - yes - aside from bears I haven't heard others reporting any other danger," she replied. "Though with the autumn coming, and bears preparing for hibernation, we should keep eyes open for any hungry buggers wandering in Sunspire's direction."

RE: Repeat - Arbiter - September 15, 2018

The words seemed hollow coming from Wraen, but that was probably Treason's own opinions clouding things.  She doubted that the beta trusted her, truly.  That's probably why she said that the pack trusted her -- she didn't.  Even though Treason was big on verbally eviscerating idiots, she didn't think that the other woman would appreciate it nearly as much as she did.  She was just not the right type.  They were different wolves.

She snorted, It's not like they'd find much there other than us.  Some plants.  But there were probably more down here in the vale.  Hopefully things will stay quiet then.  But that was about all she had to say on the matter.  Fate would probably have other opinions and not let them rest.  But at least they weren't bear chow.  Yet.

RE: Repeat - Wraen - September 17, 2018

It is fascinating, how many false conclusions people can make, basing them on assumptions and prejudice. Wraen had meant every word, speaking not only on behalf of herself, but her fellow leaders as well. Using "we" instead of an "I", thinking that this would mean more to Treason than just her own declaration. Because in the guardian's presence she lost the ease and confidence she had, when she was around others and addressed them. Something in this person drained Wraen and, while she had no personal agenda against the person in question, she preferred not to end up with her in the same room. Like it had happened now.

But good thing the borders were near and she was relieved of coming up with other topics for conversation. Other than: "I hope so too. By the way - I and Nara spotted a deer herd moving our way, so there is another pack hunt in the making. I would be glad to see you there as well."

RE: Repeat - Arbiter - September 27, 2018

Yeah. It just seemed unlikely that they were ever to get along, and not for much of a real reason that was obvious.  Just something didn't work.  It happened, and it didn't seem super likely that it would change any time soon.  Opinions were strong things.

Assuming they don't turn and head elsewhere, I'll be around.  Or assuming she wasn't off finding her own food after getting impatient for the rest of the pack to do something.  She'd fared okay so far because of it, but their luck would be turning soon enough.  Sometime.  Either way, Treason apparently didn't have much else to say.  Her mission had been completed, and it was just kind of awkward and unfortunate that she and Wraen both had to return home to the same place.

RE: Repeat - Wraen - September 30, 2018

"Let's hope they do not," Wraen replied and before she was burdened with the awkward silence again Sunspire's nothern borders came into the view. Which was a relief. Even more, when she spotted @Witchbaby in the distance. And happy for the opportunity to swap a rather difficult company to a different and easier one, she turned to Treason and said: "Well, see you around then - I have some stuff to discuss with Witchbaby." And with this said she took off.

RE: Repeat - Arbiter - October 05, 2018

Well, her goal was completed.  That was the main thing she'd gotten out of this.  Rumors had become fact and now it looked like she was finally being left to her own devices again.  Perhaps she could go do a patrol or something..  Or just take a nap, hadn't she done enough for one day?  Bears existed.

Her final word -- or rather, mutter -- to Wraen was just an affirming, Mmhm, before she was finally freed from the shackles of having the beta she disliked lurking about.  Treason veered the opposite way, out of sight of the pair.
