Gamekeeper #1 (Anybody, please join asap so i can archive) - Fireblaze - June 28, 2014 Fireblaze was on patrol. A hunting patrol, for Peregrine. She stalked through the woods, in hopes of finding a rabbit warren. As she neared a part of the wood unexplored to her, she scented a thrush. Creeping slowly towards the scent, she saw it. Silently, she crept even closer, then pounced on the thrush, killing it with a quick bite to the neck. She dug a small hole, and buried it. Then, as the day went on, she had already caught the thrush, two rabbits, both away from the warren, where she snapped each spine, four mice, easily caught by a quick bite to the neck. and a sparrow, pulled from the air with no gracefulness. This should be enough, she though. Plenty. As she headed back, she heard a distressed animal. A fawn, by the sounds of it, and a very, very young fawn. She followed the sound, until Fireblaze saw the fawn, stuck in a trap set by the humans. I will have to warn Peregrine, she thought. Human traps here. It was best to just end the fawns life quickly, by nipping at its legs until it fell to the ground from loss of blood. She snapped its neck with tremendous force for such a small breed, even though she was large for her breed. Fireblaze pulled the deer carcass hard, until the leg snapped apart. Hunting well done, she praised herself. Hunting well done. RE: Gamekeeper #1 (Anybody, please join asap so i can archive) - Dante RIP - June 28, 2014
I'll join I suppose ^^
Dante too had heard the sound of the distressed fawn and began heading in that direction, concerned. He did not know what sort of creature was making the sound, but whatever was going on, it didn't sound pleasant. He came upon the scene just as Fireblaze was dispatching the deer. And while he could see clearly it had been best for the poor thing, he couldn't help but wonder why she didn't just go for the neck first off. He eyed her dubiously. She had the scent of the pack, but was not a member whom he had yet met. Her bleeding of the fawn had seemed almost systematic and made his skin crawl, but he tried to dismiss it. She was a packmate, first impressions were everything, and Dante hated to start off with doubt and suspicion. "Hello," he said, walking up to her. "Do you need help taking that anywhere? My name's Dante." He was quite a bit larger than her and could probably handle carrying the fawn with more ease than she could. RE: Gamekeeper #1 (Anybody, please join asap so i can archive) - Fireblaze - June 28, 2014 Fireblaze glanced up. Hello," she said coldly, for she had seen the look of horror in his eyes. "I saw your face. If you must look horrified, at least turn away. If you must know what I was doing, the fawns neck was too high for me to reach." Her tone softened. If you want to help me you can, but I was a loner as a pup, so I am very strong, and I could easily lift it. You are Dante, right?" Fireblaze's first impression was that he was a wolf that frightened easily. RE: Gamekeeper #1 (Anybody, please join asap so i can archive) - Dante RIP - June 29, 2014 Dante's ears flattened a bit at her response, for her tone was not in any way friendly. True, he must have let his emotions show on his face more than he wished. But if he was one who gave great import to rank, her response would have been highly out of line. Luckily, he was not the type. "I apologize. It took me by surprise, killing a fawn is not normally done. However, in these circumstances, there really was no other way. I am sorry to have offended you." Dante dismissed any negative thoughts he may have been thinking. Packmates deserved the benefit of the doubt no matter what. Until he knew her better, he would reserve judgement. "I am Dante. I too was recently a loner, so I know how hard it is sometimes to transition to pack life. Just a friendly note though. You may want to watch your tone with some of the wolves around here." He smiled at her. "I don't have such a high opinion of myself, but some may take it as a rank challenge." He didn't doubt her strength, but in a pack peace was of highest importance. It did not take much turmoil to weaken even the strongest pack. RE: Gamekeeper #1 (Anybody, please join asap so i can archive) - Fireblaze - June 29, 2014 "I am so very sorry I used that tone. It is just with being a loner my whole life, I don't really know anything different," Fireblaze said. "As of the fawn, it is ok. I am one with the nature, so even if it has more pain, I know nothing would have made it feel better that to go down bravely." She walked over to him, and nuzzled his side. "You are forgiven." RE: Gamekeeper #1 (Anybody, please join asap so i can archive) - Dante RIP - June 29, 2014 It was as he had expected. He at least had the experience of spending puphood in a pack. Her words of being one with nature made little sense to him, but his upbringing had contained little discussion of things like that. He smiled as she said he was forgiven. "I am glad," he responded, "I'd hate to lower myself in the eyes of a new packmate so soon. What brought you to Blacktail Deer Plateau?" He was curious as to how she had come upon this place and, even moreso, what had made her desire to join. If she had been a loner all of her life then this was quite a lifestyle switch. It would be good to know what about their pack she had seen and liked for future reference. They were always looking to recruit, after all. RE: Gamekeeper #1 (Anybody, please join asap so i can archive) - Fireblaze - June 29, 2014 Well, I hunted for myself, obviously. And then I started to stray into the pack's territory, to hunt for them, because that's what I did. Then I met Perry, and we talked for a while. Then he accepted me in. "I saw a chance to have close pack mates, a family for once." RE: Gamekeeper #1 (Anybody, please join asap so i can archive) - Dante RIP - June 29, 2014 Dante was a bit confused. "You came into the lands to hunt for a pack before you joined?" He asked, flabbergasted. Her intentions may have been honorable in doing so but any pack wolf who had come across a loner taking down prey in their lands would assume theft and attack at once. They didn't usually stop to ask for a wolf's explanation first. "You are treading in dangerous waters, doing that. I avoided packs like the plague when I was a loner; most don't like you hanging around their borders unless you intend to join right off, let alone inside their territory." Her reasons for joining made perfect sense, for they were much like his own. "I am glad that we can offer you that here, a family is a wonderful thing." A true family, he added mentally. His own blood family hardly counted. "Just stick to your strengths and be kind/courteous and I'm sure you will do very well for yourself...." He paused. "I'm sorry, I don't think I got your name." RE: Gamekeeper #1 (Anybody, please join asap so i can archive) - Fireblaze - June 29, 2014 "My name is Fireblaze, and I am pretty sure the packs knew I was hunting for them. I was wondering, just out of curiosity, do you have a mate?" RE: Gamekeeper #1 (Anybody, please join asap so i can archive) - Dante RIP - June 29, 2014 "No doubt," he responded, somewhat amused. He still couldn't believe she had gotten away with it. The packs had to know, though. A pack would could scent an intruder's trail long after they had entered... and a pack that didn't patrol it's borders was hardly a pack at all. She was rather forward with her next question and it caught Dante completely off guard. "I don't," he responded, not used to answering personal questions but not minding either. Pack meant family and family meant not much was off limits. Truth was, Dante didn't think much about mating. He had never met anyone who he saw that sort of relationship with... he couldn't form attachments like other wolves sometimes did. He didn't understand how someone could know so quickly that another was who they wanted to spend the rest of their life with. He would have to truly get to know someone first. Maybe, after that, but no sooner. "Guess I'm not really looking for one either. Figure when the right wolf comes along, I'll know." He smiled amicably. RE: Gamekeeper #1 (Anybody, please join asap so i can archive) - Fireblaze - June 29, 2014 "I know I started off bad, and I know we barely know each other, but do you think I could be the one wolf you are looking for?" Sighing, Fireblaze sat down, with sadness in her eyes. "You will probably say no. I know it. I never had true love before." RE: Gamekeeper #1 (Anybody, please join asap so i can archive) - Dante RIP - June 29, 2014 Dante's stomach dropped when she asked, and for a moment he just stood, shocked. They had known each other for a single conversation and already she was thinking that? Dante couldn't understand that instant attraction, and he hated being asked. He just couldn't stand shooting others down, though that was usually the case. He couldn't lie to them. "I'm sorry, Fireblaze. It's just too soon to tell. I hardly know you, and I guarantee you hardly know me." She looked pretty down, and he felt badly, but it was the truth. "There's someone out there for everyone though. And I guarantee, true love isn't something you are going to find in a day. But I imagine when you find it, it's worth it." Dante cocked his head at her. "Until then, though, I'm here if you need a friend. I know how hard it is when you first start with a new pack, it's pretty isolating. If you ever have any issues, feel free to come to me. I'll try to help any way I can." RE: Gamekeeper #1 (Anybody, please join asap so i can archive) - Fireblaze - June 29, 2014 "I just don't want to end up as a loner. I- I'm thinking of starting a new pack, in the Otter Creek zone. I just don't want to be alone." Fireblaze slumped even more, until she could no longer slump lower. RE: Gamekeeper #1 (Anybody, please join asap so i can archive) - Dante RIP - July 01, 2014 This can be Dante's last post if you wanna wrap up!
Dante was somewhat taken aback to hear that she was planning already on perhaps breaking away from the pack so soon and starting one of her own. "I wouldn't give up on the Plateau so quickly. Give it a chance, the wolves here are really great." Dante smiled. "Present company included of course." He sighed, looking over at the waning sun. "Look, I have to go presently, but if you need anything, let me know. Seriously. I really think you will do great here, don't count the pack out just yet." He cocked his head. "Alright?" RE: Gamekeeper #1 (Anybody, please join asap so i can archive) - Fireblaze - July 02, 2014 Wrapping it up. Fireblaze stared at him. "Most of the pack cast me wary glances, and some don't even like me. I still have a long way to go though, so I am not leaving just yet. I can't leave Blue, Perry, Osprey, and Pura. I'm mot even sure what I want to do. "I might want to discover a new territory instead." |
