godling - Stigmata - October 11, 2018

a cold gust tore along waving throngs of tall silkgrasses, and the downs shivered in overcast bask. stigmata took advantage of the sunless day for contemplation - leaving the confines of bearclaw as he began to prepare himself mentally for the toil he was soon to place upon himself.

he was conflicted; mostly because he felt both grave about his decision as well as excited for the prospects it might bring him. it had been months now since he had donned any sort of power, and  the former dragoon was starting to feel eager to have it again. he was close... and yet... the wolf sighed, lifting his chin as he came to stand at the edge of the field, casting his eyes out over the prairie below.

A phone post before bed from me, excuse any typos ❤️

She was unsure of these new lands. The openness of this specific area made her feel...odd. Uneasy. She could not explain it fully but for someone who had always had some place to hide, this was a foreign situation. It made her skin crawl ever so slightly.

Electric seafoam eyes fluttered back and forth, seeking shelter somewhere. Yet nothing appealed to her. Except for the speck of life on the horizon. Now that appealed to her. She set out towards them with long strides, a casualness to her pose. Rosemallow was not here to start a fight or threaten anyone.

She let out a soft bark in hopes she would be rewarded with the attention she wanted.

RE: godling - Stigmata - October 11, 2018

stigmata breathed slowly, falling deeper still into his thoughts, when a bid for his attention shattered the glass of relative peace around him. the wolf turned his head halfway and set a single, dreary eye on the caller, his expression blank for the most part. without the single note of a threat shared between them, he wagged his tail softly, inviting her into his space if she so pleased, without seeming too interested himself.

under normal circumstance he might've approached, just to find out what he could from the stranger - serving as the collector that he was - but stress made him less inclined to be so forward. he could certainly use the company, but stigmata wasn't an entertainer, and in that very moment he was particularly distracted. even still, as directionless as his thoughts felt at the time, he never took his eye from the smokewraith; waiting instead to see if she would be on her way or not.

RE: godling - Rosemallow - October 11, 2018

She slowed to a halt once she was a few feet away. Her own tail swayed with a slow rhythm behind her ashy form. She examined him with her lively colored eyes and quickly made it known that she liked — in one way or another — what she saw.

Sight for sore eyes. She murmured in a gentle tone meant for his ears alone. Rosemallow was not sure when the last time she had seen someone was. Nor could she recall the last face being a friendly face. Obviously this one wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows but...well, he was the best she had.

Silently she took a seat, wondering if he would respond to her less-than-typical greeting.

RE: godling - Stigmata - October 11, 2018

a single ear flicked at her words, and for a beat stigmata was stricken silent. he turned now to face her, and his gaze alighted upon hers with the scrutiny of trying to recall something long forgotten. but he saw nothing familiar in the gray-wash of her coat or the brilliant marbles of seaglass that were her eyes. only a few seconds had passed, but he resigned now to the fact that she was just a stranger. one who spoke with an air of kinship where none belonged.

"am i?" the wolf drawled, showing his newfound interest with a deliberate step towards her seated form. "i fear i do not compare. not to you."

RE: godling - Rosemallow - October 11, 2018

I should sleep but your posts are so exciting ;O;

Her tail swayed a bit faster when he approached, his response drawing a wide smile from her masked face. Don’t sell yourself short. She spoke without a care but each word was honest. The air around her would ooze with her relaxed demeanor.

Rosemallow did not consider to think that the stranger could be hiding malicious intent. She was deathly lonesome and he had been her savior in what felt like a desert of abandonment. Not to say she thought he was going to be around forever or something like that.

He was merely, like she had said, a sight for sore (lonely) eyes.

RE: godling - Stigmata - October 11, 2018

"i would never," the hunter professed coyly. for he was many things but modest or self-depreciating he was not. and while capable of malicious things, and an aggression too grave to put words to, stigmata was never cruel without provocation; in that regard, his company was fortunate. "perhaps i just think that highly of you." a lie, certainly, for he held no true love for any stranger, and she had done nothing so far but stroke his ego.

he supposed that was well enough; he wouldn't ask for less, at any rate. "have you gone long, on your own?" he asked then, not having to ask if she had a pack, as it was clear from her scent she had no close companions of her own at present.

RE: godling - Rosemallow - October 12, 2018

She let out a soft chuckle. Holding me to high standards so soon? Her voice was a soft teasing tone as she jokingly questioned him. Rosemallow supposed she had held him to such standards first. Sigh for sore eyes and all.

A sigh escaped her and the twinkling light of playfulness in her eyes seemed to dim. Far too long. The ashy female answered with a soft tilt of her head. How long had it been? A few weeks? No, longer than that. Months? That sounded more correct. Although she would never openly admit it she had stopped keeping track of the moon cycles some time ago.

RE: godling - Stigmata - October 12, 2018

"naturally," stigmata replied easily, reclining into a sit before her. "i expect nothing less from the company i keep." what would it serve - for a wolf of his nature and stature - to align himself with lesser? "unfortunately, that means the only way you have to go now is down. and most prove unable to maintain my high standards." and usually through no real fault of their own, but he failed to mention that his "standards" weren't a written rubric easily followed. so far the she-wolf had proved herself to be lacking many of the faults he found made a wolf ineligible for his servitude, and as long as she continued along this path, stigmata intended to keep her.

far too long, she said, and the warhound was reminded of the solitary life he had been forced into before coming to bearclaw valley all those moons ago. "and is it a home you seek? or something more temporary?"

RE: godling - Rosemallow - October 12, 2018

She flashed him a small grin. If I still get to look at you on the way down I think I get the better end of the deal. Her tail swished behind her grey form as her features teetered along amused, attracted and enchanted. He was a rather fun stranger for her to first wander upon. Was her luck going to start to turn around? Rosemallow could only hope so.

A home. She answered honestly. The shewolf craved a permanent residency somewhere. That wasn't to say she couldn't adjust and flow with the plans but she didn't wish to be hoping from pack to pack to pack. That simply wasn't the life for her.

RE: godling - Stigmata - October 12, 2018

"if i said you were wrong, i would only be pretending to be humble, and that would make me a liar," stigmata purled, his own amusement evident in the way his tail waved plaintively and the way his eyes had taken on a lighter glint. he didn't seem so gloom and doom anymore, and it was perhaps because this she-wolf had unintentionally come to reaffirm his worth as a both a male and former imperator, right when he'd needed it most. though neither wolf had felt a need to introduce themselves, he felt a kindred to her already and began to wonder - as she confirmed her need for a home - what kind of loyalties she had brewing inside her.

"what happened to your previous home?" he asked, his tone falling on a more serious note as he began to honestly consider inviting her into the ranks of those he claimed to be his own. if she was anything like the frivolous youths he had come across, with their wandering hearts and distant yearnings, then he would be disappointed to leave her here in the flat, lonely downs.

RE: godling - Rosemallow - October 12, 2018

Never be humble if you know your worth. She informed in a soft purr, tossing him a look out of the corner of her eye. From her perspective he had no reason to be humble. Well built, rather nice looks, smelled of a pack. Rosemallow was willing to say he had more than most. Even herself.

A soft sigh escaped her. It was a slight damper to recall the incidents of her former home but he had asked and she had no reason to hide or lie. Disbanded. My family was betrayed by allies and we could not stay nor survive there any further. No one had ever expected the neighboring group to strike them down. They had been vulnerable.

It still left a strong bitter taste in her mouth.

RE: godling - Stigmata - October 12, 2018

as he waited for her response, a tenseness crept up the veins of his stilted limbs, and he found himself inadvertently recalling his run-in with skydance: a younger she-wolf he had also liked, but had irrevocably damaged his opinion of her by revealing that she was prone to wanderlust. cursed to remember these kinds of negative encounters, he couldn't help but worry now, that there were few of his kind that remained left in the world; those not so easily swayed by mere whim.

stigmata's worry had been for naught, however, as the ashsmoke beauty on stout, sturdy limbs informed him that her woes were not self-inflicted. his expression thereafter could not be called soft, but it flitted with understanding, and he inclined his muzzle in respectful acknowledgement of her losses. he did not wonder why she chose not to remain with what few of her own remained - sometimes, it simply wasn't viable. "my home is small, and brimming with the young. i do not know if it will suit you, but i am inclined to have you all the same."

RE: godling - Rosemallow - October 12, 2018

Rosemallow offered a smile at his offer. Your home. She mused softly aloud. Are they your brood? Should I expect an angry partner for me complimenting you in these meadows? While the teasing tones of her words seemed less, it was obvious she was not horribly worried. There was no feminine perfume that clung to him. Alas, if it was his home surely it might be his children as well?

Her ears leaned forward to show her interest, sea foam eyes sparkling with something brilliant. His offer was rather enticing. Rosemallow was not a creature who was use to a lonely way of life. Nor did she intend on being alone so often to make a life out of.

RE: godling - Stigmata - October 14, 2018

it took almost all of stigmata's focus not to snort and look offended at the mere suggestion that any of those bearclaw urchins belonged to him. he might have liked to have claimed merrick, for more than one reason, and perhaps piper, who made him wish he had sired more than just a gaggle of wild sons - but generally he was not inclined to think fondly of children not his own. "no," he affirmed flatly, his imperial mood returning.

"i share no blood with the wolves of the valley, but i came to them under circumstances similar to your own, and despite having every reason to turn me away, i was given a home and a purpose that i intend to honor." nevermind his need to be in control or his selfish position on the subject of pups; stigmata was loyal to the bitter end. "this offer i have made you," he continued, eyeing her less appreciatively and more critically now - alighting her with a librarian's stare; "it does not come lightly or free of charge."

a warning that, if she wanted to continue, he would need some proof.

RE: godling - Rosemallow - October 16, 2018

No.

Well, his words had lost their former tone but at least she knew now that neither the children nor some other female would get in the way of her meaningless flirting. She raised a brow of interest at his first chunk of words. Two birds of a feather...she had no doubt then that the wolves of the Valley would take her too. Or at least she hoped they would.

She stared back at him, encouraging him to get on with it. What's the price? The tear-marked female asked with a raised brow.

RE: godling - Stigmata - October 17, 2018

readily enough, she asked for the cost of admission, and stigmata was prepared already with a task in mind for her. he would test her abilities, determination, and loyalty all in one fell swoop. "before the season turns, i require a duck," he told her at length. "there is a lake some ways north of here - past the glade of foxes - known for its waterfowl. you should find one there." he didn't expect her to obey him, or to want a home that wouldn't simply take her in at face-value, but if she wanted anything more to do with his prowess, and his willingness to serve her as a packmate, then she would need to prove herself worthy of such pack-rendered affection.

"bring it to the bearclaw," he motioned now towards the near-distant high walls of his home; "if you truly wish to have a home with us. if not, or if your fancy should be stolen by a more trusting wolf, then simply do not return."

RE: godling - Rosemallow - October 28, 2018

I see. She mused before giving a firm nod. It will be done. The tear-marked female assured him before she finally stood, giving a flick of her tail. I suppose I should go and get it done now. No need to waste time. She cooed to him with a half grin. Rosemallow had every intention of returning to him with what he had asked for.

If they were done here, she would be on her way. There was a duck that needed her to collect it.

RE: godling - Stigmata - November 08, 2018

stigmata nodded her off, watching her go with a smug expression of approval. only time would tell if they proved worth anything to one another, but things were off to a promising start and she would be vital moving forward with his plans to guide bearclaw into his imagined utopia.

in reality, this rapport would only turn out make things all the harder for him when his unspoken vision would continue to go unheard, and the valley wolves would turn to scurry away like mice to the friendliest hovel willing. but with disgrace yet on the horizon, stigmata remained blissfully pompous about his future.
