empire down - Constantine - October 31, 2018

Snowflakes drifted through the cold air, reminding the dark male that winter was now upon them. The brightly colored leaves had begun to shift to dull browns and oranges, or, at least those that still clung on with hope to the bending limbs and branches of the trees. He stilled as a particularly chillier gust of wind ruffled the stark black fur along his spine, his eyes like fire against the backdrop of frost, autumn and snow.

He sought the dragoness of the creek out. But she was elusive to him, as if knowing he looked for her. His children were quiet now—the strain between their parents relationship clearly something they didn’t understand, and not something he could possibly explain himself when he didn’t understand. So he sought to, because the limbo they remained in could not remain. Not when their family was so broken apart.

RE: empire down - Durnehviir - November 05, 2018

She had not seen Viinturuth in weeks, but left him well alone to seek company with her in his own time. Durnehviir wanted to be patient with him in light of recent events, despite the despair and longing in her heart to simply be with her children. The family was in ruins, splintered and perhaps irreparable, and as the dragoness' fear of losing her son drove her to search for him at his usual haunts that morning, she found them absent of any fresh scent.

Frantic, she scoured the territory with the hope coming across newer trail for the older ones led her in circles. Snow began to fall, drifting through the bitter air around her, and tears pricked her eyes as the strong possibility of Viinturuth's departure fell atop already weighted shoulders.

She tilted her muzzle skyward and howled out in a mother's despair, beckoning for a boy she knew would not respond. Silence hung heavy between the foliage and on she pressed, ginger ears swivelling to and fro as she scanned through snowfall with frantic champagne eyes.

Something about the sight of Constantine, despite the drama that now enveloped their relationship, made her shoulders sag with relief. She exhaled a sharp breath and veered toward him, skipping whatever greeting or frustration he might expect from her to make a grim announcement: "Viinturuth is gone!"

RE: empire down - Constantine - November 07, 2018

Her howl caused his blood to run cold. A frown furrowed at the brows of the shadowrunner, and he paused in his steps, trying to discern the meaning of his mate’s mournful note. She called to their children, but there was no answer—it caused his own heart to begin to thunder in his chest and his mouth to go dry.

No sooner did he begin to quicken his pace in the direction he had determined his mate was, her flame-kissed fur came to view. Pale eyes were wide with worry, and the lashing he expected from her tongue was lost when he saw the her form noticeably slacken, as if the fire had escaped her very being. It was not something he had witnessed in her before, not something he ever wanted to again.

Viinturuth’s gone.

He stared at her, blinking. Where, he wanted to ask, but he didn’t. If she had known, she would be dragging the youth back to his home and family. To those that loved him. But did he even know that, when his family was so broken? “I’ll gather the pack. We’ll find him.” He ignored the pit in his stomach that felt as if a stone roiled within. He wanted to press forward, to reassure her, and he took a hesitant step, but moved no further—she had not accepted his presence for months now. The loss of their son because of their ridiculous argument was not likely to change that.

RE: empire down - Durnehviir - November 16, 2018

Her frantic heart thrummed in her chest, lithe frame trembling beneath the weight of Constantine's blinking stare. Durnehviir gazed right back, teeth clenched beneath her lips, as something akin to fear glimmered in the soft gold of her irises. Afraid for Viinturuth, a juvenile of no experience in the ways of the wild beyond their home, stepping into the unknown at the beginning of his first Winter.

Would he experience a second? Would he survive this current one?

The dragoness sucked in a breath, ginger ears tilted back as she succumbed to her grief. She hung her head, guilty, as her mate (could they still consider themselves as such?) attempted to take charge of the situation. Unable to stifle the sob that racked her body, Durnehviir sank to the snowy ground and wept freely.

The participants have indicated the following reason(s) for this warning: Swearing.
Of everything he had expected for her reaction it was not what he received. He had expected bared fangs tearing to his fur, seeking flesh. He had expected her frustrations to be at the breaking point of the past few months. Instead, she crumpled before him, and a rumble of distress escaped past his lips.

As much as he felt the urge to call the pack together in this very moment and to find their son as quickly as they could, he took pause, feeling sickened that this was what they had wrought upon themselves. “Durnehviir,” he murmured, his voice quiet in its near break of emotion.

He swept forward, unsure if his presence or touch would be welcome this time, as it had not in the past. He didn’t care—it was the only way he knew to reassure her. “Fuck, Durnehviir,” he rumbled now, his tone shaking as his dark form crept toward her, his form lowering as he attempted to blanket her with his larger mass, as if he could shield her from all of the pain and loss that now plagued them. Their first born son.

“We’ll find him.” He tried to keep his words resolute, knowing he could never promise such a thing, but needing nothing more than to fix the crumbled family. “We’ll find him. I’ll do better. I love you. I love our family.” Sweeping his tongue across her muzzle should she have accepted it, he tried to kiss away her tears, wondering if it was far too late for his admissions now.

RE: empire down - Durnehviir - November 28, 2018

She heard him speak her name, but the syllables seemed faint beneath the sound of her own pulse. Eyes squeezed shut, Durnehviir inhaled deeply as she willed herself to focus. Breathe. While she wished to give herself into Constantine's touch and accept his comfort, she could not erase the thought of he and Aria together that her imagination had conjured.

Muscles tensed with the dark Mayfair's approach, as he confessed something that quickened her tears - the words she'd so longed to hear him share with her. Durnehviir had willed him to say them when last they fought, and remembered the sting of his back turned on her as he took his leave. He had left her to crumble once before, and the dragoness feared that his assurance of love had come much too late.

She sobbed, but did not reject his kisses that were meant to reassure, despite wanting to shove him away. Instead she remained slumped in the dirt, trembling and overwhelmed, offering nothing but a murmured "I'm sorry."

Sorry that the world was collapsing all around them. Sorry for the fire of her accusations. Sorry for driving their son away.

Sorry that I can't be her...

RE: empire down - Constantine - December 23, 2018

He was frozen in time, his mind pulling bits and pieces of the past weeks and all of the scenarios he could have swallowed his pride and pulled his family together. Was it the reassurance of his love for her that had not been clear? He had taken her to the land she wanted to raise their family and abandoned the comfort of the sea for her. He had courted her and made his intentions known—called her his own, and given himself to her. They had children together. And yet, somehow, it had all come crashing down.

He swallowed, his muzzle drifting down to preen at the fiery fur of her nape, though words could not find him. She sobbed uncontrollably before him, uttering an apology to which he had no response—he could not broach the topic of Aria and Durnehviir’s burning hatred for his best friend. He could not speak on the disappearance of their son, the only comfort he held was that at the delivery of his mate’s news, there were no clear signs of trauma or devastation. It was likely the youthful boy had wandered from them.

He fell down beside her, his own stocky form moving to wrap around her, to comfort her. As if he could fit them back together like pieces of a broken puzzle.
