see the mountains where they meet, smothering me - Ashari - November 14, 2018 she runs as far from @Athris as her legs will take her, trembling and breathing heavy as she reaches the shoreline. the sight and sound of the crashing waves immediately soothes her — just not enough. her heart is still trying to pound a hole through her chest, and she still can't seem to make sense of anything her brother had said. about their dad, about alarian, about playing god — none of it seems sane. and why would he keep it all from her? overwhelmed, she takes several steps forward until she can feel the waves lapping at her paws as they come in. she closes her eyes and takes a few more steps into the frigid salty water, hesitant at first but gaining confidence quickly. it's been some time since she's done this, but it feels as natural as it always has. she moves further out, until her feet barely touch the ground and each movement of the waves sways her just slightly. she could die out here and be happy, she thinks. maybe she should. RE: see the mountains where they meet, smothering me - Athris - November 14, 2018 He had gave chase to her. Guilt soaked him to his core. He should have never said anything. This was all his fault. Why was he even going after her? Love, he supposed. It was the only thing that truly made sense in this mess. He could only hope there was enough love in her heart for him. Otherwise...well, he didn't know what would happen then. He supposed perhaps he could crawl back off and wither away with his father's skull. If it was still there. Ashari...wait, please! He called out in a plead as he made it to the edge of the water. She was already in and despite his closeness with his sister, he had been fretful of the ocean. It was too much unknown for him and Athris was in no condition to be taking on more mysteries or questions. RE: see the mountains where they meet, smothering me - Ashari - November 14, 2018 the ocean is so vast and beautiful; it strikes her all at once as she stands in the water, as still as she can manage. she takes in a slow, deep breath, and watches her breath cloud in front of her as she exhales. she hardly feels the cold — which should probably concern her more. but she feels at peace. until she hears her brother calling for her from the shore. she hesitates, heart suddenly racing again. if she turns around, she knows she'll go back to him, and that she'll never distance herself again. it's what she wants, more than anything, but something stops her. maybe the knowledge that she is cursed, she is twisted; she will love him too fiercely, grip too tightly, and he will drown in her cold embrace. if she turns around, she will destroy him. she's certain of it. his desperate please replays in her head. she turns around, choking on a sob, and slowly makes her way back to athris. RE: see the mountains where they meet, smothering me - Athris - November 14, 2018 Please...Her murmured when she turned around and met him with that green gaze. It hits him fully now, a bit fuller than before, that he has done this. He had caused her to run into the frigid embrace of the ocean rather than his own warmth. It stung like someone had lashed his back for these sins. He deserved every ounce of hurt and self doubt. Come here.He beckoned softly and if she allowed him, he would swipe his tongue across her form to clear off the cold saltwater. He would pay for this later of course, through likely dehydration and a bitter mouth but it was a small price to pay for everything. I'm so sorry...I love you, Ashari. I never meant to do this. RE: see the mountains where they meet, smothering me - Ashari - November 14, 2018 it's too easy to let her paws carry her back to him, though her steps are slow and heavy. there is some magnetic force both pulling her to him and warding her away, telling her to turn back. she abides the former with no small amount of shame, meeting his gaze a bit sullenly as she approaches. she almost resents him, for making her choose this. she just loves him too much to truly care as much as she knows she should. she moves to embrace him despite her soaked fur if he allows it, trembling. it's not your fault, athris. i love you too,the words taste sickly sweet, and nausea bubbles up in her throat, but she swallows it back and presses closer to him. she tries to convince herself that she believes her own words. it's not his fault. it's not. it's her own. |
