but through my ups and downs - Cortland - November 23, 2018

he finds the ruined sentinels holding his attention longer than he'd anticipated. the song seems to fade in and out like the tide no matter which direction he turns, dying away if he dares try to leave the dead forest; stagnating him. it's... frustrating, in a way. he'd thought meeting the dark male would have allowed him to move on, or at least given him a clearer sense of direction. but it still feels like something is missing, like he's... forgotten something. ha.
he's drawn to the northernmost edges of the forest, the stretch of ruins sandwiched between the bay and the neighboring cliffs. from here, he can see the ocean. he hears little but its crashing, and he lets the sound fill him, closing his eyes. he takes a slow breath, and the song rises sharply from the waves. it's strong now — almost deafening. but only for a moment, true to its fleeting nature. he isn't bothered, though; he knows he'll find it again, eventually. at least now he can move on to less creepy places.

RE: but through my ups and downs - Zamael - November 25, 2018

Alarian was gone, and he felt adrift. When he had found his brother missing, he had followed the scent trail, thinking the worst. After not encountering a body, he assumed that he was fine, that he had found. . .wherever he was headed. A new home? He hadn't headed to Bracken Sanctuary. Did he no longer live there? Instead he'd gone closer to the mountains, but. . .

Zamael stopped tracking him, after a while. It was clear that his presence in his brother's life brought them both nothing but anguish. If one Keil was a hot mess, two of them together was a full-on dumpster fire. And people wondered why he had nothing nice to say about Sunfil Grove.

So he returned to Skeleton Man, Stormrift, and the bay. On the way, he stopped in the ugly burned forest he'd met Ashari in, praying to whatever gods there were that she wouldn't be there. There was a flash of pale fur nearby, and he held his breath for an instant--but it was gold, not silver. He drew closer to inspect, and his pained look melted into something almost resembling a smile.

Hey! Prince Charming! Zamael called softly, padding toward the boy with his tail wagging. Didn't think I'd see you again--not out here, anyway.

he hears the approach of another from a distance, though he feels no inclination to stir until a familiar voice calls out. he turns, ears perking as his gaze finds the source. he knows this wolf, though his name does not immediately come to mind. instead, the next thing he registers is his greeting. prince charming. as quickly as they'd pulled forward, his ears fold halfway back, immediately flushing with heat. the mayfair can't imagine the nickname as anything but mocking, and he can't help but feel horribly embarrassed for a moment.
still, it's nice to see a familiar face, and it seems the grey wolf feels the same way. he's quick to let go of any negative feelings inspired by the odd new moniker, taking a couple steps toward the man and greeting him with a slow, stretching bow, tail waving lazily. he tilts his head slightly to one side, argent eyes sparkling with curiosity as if asking a question — and he is, in a way, though it is no specific question. tell me something, he seems to beckon with his expression, willing to accept anything the other gives him. he remembers his name, then: zamael. a friend, perhaps. he can't remember the last time he'd had one of those, aside tack, whom he loves dearly but finds cannot quite measure up to the company of his own kind.

He felt bad as soon as he saw the golden wolf's face fall; he frowned as he came to a stop, shaking his head. Geez, man, I didn't mean it in a bad way, Zamael said, mouth quirking awkwardly. He usually didn't give this much of a shit, but Alarian's reappearance had made him soft. Who knew how long that would last, this time around. You're a good-lookin' guy, nice, polite, quiet--though the last one's, you know, kind of out of your control, he added, with a grimace and a nervous chuckle.

He stretched in tandem with the boy, though perhaps not as broadly as the other. I think I'm gonna live around here, soon, he said, trying to spark a one-sided conversation. In the bay next door. Guy that looks super creepy but is actually pretty nice is trying to start a pack there.

Why wouldn't he do it? Alarian was on his way to god knows where, and Zamael had no other attachments to Broken Boulder. He'd kept his eyes peeled for Eris, but hadn't been able to find her, either.

his ears heat further with zamael's next words, but this time it's an entirely different feeling. he does rather like being complimented, though he'd never admit it even if he had the ability. he can't help but laugh at the last part, wishing he could tell him that he prefers quiet anyway. luckily, he's distracted again before he can lament that he can't, this time by the familiarity of the man's description. his eyes light up with recognition, tail swishing a little faster, and he nods slightly. but he doesn't know how to convey what he wants to. he shifts a little anxiously, glancing the direction of the bay, then back to zamael. he can't help but think if he were more creative, smarter, he might be able to communicate — but he's not, and he can't, and he hates it.

RE: but through my ups and downs - Zamael - December 06, 2018

It seemed Prince Charming was familiar with the place. Would he live there, too? The thought brought him some solace. At least he would have a friend in this new life.

Let's go for a walk, Zamael said, for lack of a better thing to say. Maybe get out of these sad burned trees. If only he'd known what they meant to Cortland's family, once upon a time.

fading here, sorry for the inconvenience
