Awakening - Red Wolf - July 07, 2014 Swiftcurrent Creek members ONLY please. Also, as a quick note: Red won’t talk much, as that is her character. She will mostly try to get by on body language alone, and only talk when absolutely necessary, making her sentences short and to the point. I plan on making her my new main character, so I would enjoy any and all character development, etc. Feel free to give me some feedback.
Set at dawn, on the western edge of the lake, starting in the area where the aspen trees are (from the description of Duck Lake from the Territories List). On a final note, there is no need to match my length. I seem to have gotten carried away. She awoke with a start, eyes snapping open and darting around quickly. She lifted her head after a moment, to give herself a wider view of the surrounding area. Aspen trees. She was in a grove of aspen trees. And from a distance away, she heard the cacophony of many ducks. At least, she thought they were ducks. She stood on shaky legs, feeling very strange and unstable. Something about her situation was off-putting, but for the life of her, she could not figure out what it was. Something was… missing.
Slowly, she made her way towards the sound of the ducks, weaving through the trees as silently as she could. Something inside of her - some instinct - made her want to keep quiet if she could. She did not want to attract attention to herself. She broke through the trees and looked around. She was standing before a lake. It was not a very big lake, as far as lakes went, but it was substantial enough. And covering the surface of the water were dozens of quacking, squawking ducks. They were everywhere. She stared at the masses of them for a little while, content to sit and watch. Their silly antics vaguely amused her, but soon enough, she grew bored. She stood once more and approached the water to take a drink. The ducks closest to her quickly slid away towards the middle of the lake, quacking at her indignantly. She ignored them, and came to a stop when her front paws were submerged in the cool water. She lowered her head to drink, taking her time and relishing in the feeling of the liquid sliding down her throat. It was then that she realized how thirsty she was. She spent a long minute lapping at the water, and finally lifted her head once more, inadvertently stopping to stare at her reflection in the rippling lake. It was then that she realized what was wrong with her and her situation as a whole: She had no idea who she was. As she stared at her face in the water, she became horrified at the fact that she was unrecognizable to herself. She did not know what her name was, how old she was, where she came from… Those details about oneself that most take for granted were lost to the female staring at herself in the lake. Lost. Yes. That’s what she was. She was lost to herself. RE: Awakening - Haunter - July 07, 2014 Here, have a slightly tame Haunter :D
There came, from the westernmost edge of Duck Lake, a great and terrible racket—and at least fifty ducks took flight in fear, scurrying violently away from the shore, haphazardly crashing into one another in their desperation to reach safety in the middle. One of their kind had not been so lucky in its escape, however, and the long-necked waterfowl hung limply from the slick, venomous mouth of the yellow-eyed wraith. Haunter slunk around the lake, searching for a choice, quiet place to eat. He found it easier if he hunted and ate alone; his mind could settle on something other than competition and he didn't treat everyone so violently in the alluring wake of blood. Though he considered himself alone now, his senses began to detect the presence of another the further he walked, and the tall, ink-spilled wolf slowed his lanky steps to a pause. He could see her now, red fur and eyes a color he couldn't distinguish from this distance. From here he saw Fox—the stranger's scent drowned by the smell of dead bird right up his nostrils—so he loped forward without hesitation. He was within a few yards before recognizing that it was not her. Or at least, he realized something was off about her in the back of his thoughts, but at the forefront of his constantly delusional mind, he still saw the Alpha of Swiftcurrent. He dropped the duck, and nudged it lightly in her direction. He would not eat this meal like he had done last time. RE: Awakening - Bazi - July 07, 2014 Just a heads up - Kaskara was/is in the middle of IC joining, so SC is full again. :| I don't know if you want to reconsider which pack you join or wait until the activity check? Pretty much everyone is active or on absence. Bleh! D:
Bazi didn't trust Haunter. They had met once before, months ago, when she was still a fresh-faced, grinning fool with a loose tail, and he was a veteran of the Creek. He had unsettled her then, with his eerie glare and peculiar demeanor, but Bazi she had looked past that in her eagerness to please. Things looked different from the top of the totem pole, and she was not so free with her smiles now. Chance had her at Duck Lake when Red and Haunter's paths converged. She had (barely) slept outside Creek territory, watching the south and east with unblinking eyes. Tuwawi's children had sparked a protective instinct in Bazi, who spent less time scouting and more pacing the unofficial borders (given how far those extended, it may have been appropriate to call it 'scouting'). From a hiding spot in the same fringe of trees on the lake's western edge, she watched Haunter approach the red wolf. From a distance, some bore some resemblance to Fox, but Bazi didn't have a tumour to contend with. The wind was in her favour, and the white wolf hunkered down, waiting to see what her alpha's questionable choice of 'bunk-mate' would do. RE: Awakening - Red Wolf - July 07, 2014 First of all, thanks for responding, you two! :D Secondly, since Bazi is hiding, I’m not even going to mention her in the post. If and when she decides to pop out and probably scare the shit out of my Red, then I’ll bring her into my replies. <3 Oh, also, @Bazi, I think I plan on going to SS. I’m mostly doing these first couple threads for roleplaying purposes. So no worries.
Due to the fact that I’m having Red mainly use body language as dialogue, I’m going to bold her body language like I would speech to make it easier to find the “words”. EDIT: There's no need to match the length, again. SECOND EDIT: I'm adding an ending onto this so it can be archived, since Haunter has gone inactive. Red continued to stare at her reflection in the water, slowly growing more and more horrified as the seconds ticked by. Her name. What was her name? Where was she from? Who were her parents? Where had she grown up? And how had she gotten to this lake? These questions, as well as millions of others, zoomed around her head until she suddenly felt dizzy and an urge to sit down caused her rump to fall with a splash into the shallow water of the shoreline. She did not notice the water now seeping through her fur. She did not notice the dull ache in her neck that was caused by her continuous stare downward at her face in the lake.
She also did not notice, until it was almost too late, the sound and smell of an approaching wolf. She also smelled blood, though in her sudden panic she did not register it as duck blood. She smelled Wolf and Blood and bolted without thought. She did not stop until she was about halfway around the lake from the wolf who had approached her, and the offering of food was left on the ground, completely unnoticed. When she felt that she had a good enough head-start, she spun quickly around to face her potential enemy. She dropped to the ground, nearly lying on her belly, ears flat against her head and mouth closed - the Wolf equivalent of, “I’m frightened.” This coywolf, you see, was not naturally a dominant female. She was not meant to order others around. She was the kind to give herself up and flop onto her back to wave her belly as a white flag. However, she also knew that this position was only given to packmates, and she was not part of a pack, nor did she know in the least the male who had dropped the food near her. She stared at him now from her position halfway around the lake from him. Or rather, she stared around him. Being a submissive wolf meant that you never looked directly into the face of a wolf who was in a higher position than you. That could be viewed as a challenge. She didn’t want a challenge. She wanted to live. With a whine, she waved her tail side-to-side to say, “I’m friendly and I don’t want to fight.” She hoped the male would listen. She didn’t want to die so soon after awakening. On second though, why was she risking it at all? She had a clear exit as long as she ran the whole way, and she decided right then and there to take it. Without another thought, she fled from the lake, wondering where she was going to go now... |
