that still only counts as one - Velen - January 05, 2019

@Norsamu had returned, and their ranks had swelled with others velen had not yet met. after a quick patrol of the cairn territory, velen set off toward the coastline, where he plunged headlong into the ice-edged waters. surfacing with a loud shout of exhilaration, the young wolf paddled lazily toward an uncovered sandbar, lifting himself out onto it. fur standing in spikes, sea newly shaken from himself, velen raked his chestnut gaze across the dark surface, searching for one of the countless fur seals that hauled their round bodies onto the shore. they remained his favorite prey, and for the present, the ceto lowered his haunches and settled for a long wait, restlessness purged at least for the moment.

She enjoyed strolling along the beach, staring in the water, watching for the beauties to surface. Sometimes the glistening of a seashell, or the challenge of a crab. It was perhaps her favorite concerning the sea, that you never really know what is beneath the surface. They couldn't go too deep either, sad to say, for not only the salt sting their eyes, but they ain't merfolf who can breath under water. Alas, one lad seemed to trying to become one, as she watched a familiar coat plunge into the water, before resurfacing into a lazy state by the shore.

"Ahoy!" She called out, a grin coming to, "long time no see, aye?"

at the sound of a familiar shout, velen turned, grinning widely. "the pirate returns!" hooting, the boy dove back into the water without hesitation, rejoining norsamu on the shore. "a sight for sore eyes!" velen declared, standing aside from her to churn the ocean from his pelt once more.
"so," the ceto smirked, "what treasure didja find while you were away?" it was truly good to see her; he hoped that was clear, despite his rakish and cavalier attitude about literally everything.

"Aye, I have! An honor to see ya again my lad!" The one to utter the name of Stormrift, and let the idea swim within her thoughts that came to the point; she came back. She was happy to see one of familiar tastes, Velen, once again, and more then pleased she would be able to call him 'comrade,' and part of the 'crew' within the bay.

"Shame to say, nay! Tis' why I came back, ain't no fun without a party." Norsamu had confessed finding nothing along her travels, but didn't seem sad as she cackled brightly upon it, and confessed it was the reason to come back. She came back, and found a new treasure, she hoped. One within the borders of these sands, and within these wilds. It'll be fun, she hoped and thought.

"How ya been?"

velen smirked; her laugh was easy, racuous. and strangely undeterred by her lack of treasure-finding, even though she had described such brilliant things to him before. he kept an easy pace with the fierce corsair, cocking his head to one side with a sly grin. "well. stormrift lives. my brother rannveig is as handsome as ever. and ford, our mighty protector."
"the sea rose up not long ago and tossed a bunch of fish right at us. so that was pretty sweet," velen crowed, chittering a sideways glance at the waves. "and soon spring will be here." spring; warmer waters and simpler times, or so the boy hoped.

"Haven't met ya dashing brother, but Ford? Aye." He gave off an impression, definitely one as a protector, but like a statue overall. A silent titan, who spoke when needed, and of seriousness. A smile was hard to crack, and difficult to give a laughter of a barbarian. Maybe with rum, he would ease up into a persona like Velen, but alas, it was only a pipe-dream, "he a beast."

"Oh? Sounds delicious." She licked her black maw, only imagining the sweet-taste of the fishes she had missed. Aye! Perhaps should've come earlier, as such a journey had a fruitless path before turning back in dishonor. These lands held treasure too, which the Pirates favorite being, "can't wait for spring lad, das where rum be brewin'."

velen grinned. "he a beast," came his parroting, for he had rather liked what norsamu had said about ford. did anyone consider him a beast? maybe one day he could dare to be that impressive. for now, he trudged alongside the pirate, sniffing the air for any nearby prey that was readily accessible. sort of like having food to cook versus having a microwave; velen wasn't really keen on hunting right now, so that meant any food not immediately at his disposal wasn't worth it, and he would just starve.
"what's rum?" he chirped with interest, turning to look at norsamu as they walked. she was fierce to look at, and again, he fell into ponderings of what he might be in a few years, the thoughts of a boy.
norsamu parted her jaws to tell him, and velen, like a child, fell into wide-eyed awe of the pirate, and the exploits that had taken her 'round the earth to discover the magickal drink.
