manuke - Kuma - January 06, 2019

damn those children. all that she asked was that they find something to eat and they go disappearing on her. was that really too much to ask? incompetent whelps. she ought to leave them to winter’s unforgiving hand, but that wasn’t an option. no matter how idiotic they may be,  they were her responsibility. she couldn’t let her daughter and the shogūn’s son perish. instead of finding a place to  settle in, she would retrieve the young or die trying.

kuma followed their trail for days. as the sun rose and fell, their tracks became more faint. the chance of finding them were slim to none, but she would not give into defeat. the bear sat in the snow and heaved a heavy sigh.

RE: manuke - Astara - January 06, 2019

astara did not often travel outside of blackfeather, but these days her restlessness took the better of her, and she found herself in the meadow not so far from her dark home.  astara was unused to such openness, and stuck close to the tree-line -- until the lone form of a prone wolf caught her attention.

the night-cub reluctantly pulled from cover, her inquisition getting the better of her. the wolf was taller than her, and powerfully made -- yet that did not daunt the brazen youth. she made towards kuma in a straight line, her posture stiff but not challenging -- and if allowed, would scent the wolf's pelt, ready for retaliation should it come.

a small shadow split from the line of darkness the trees provided. she was a peculiar specimen; so lanky and small. those rich lavender of her eyes added to her strange appearance. her form resembled her minarai, only more unnerving.

kuma was perplexed by the girl’s silence, even more so when she reached out to her. the woman stood up and took a few steps back. “i don’t know you, shōjo. i’d suggest you keep your distance,” she warned. it had been a long time since she had spoken in the common tongue. the words sounded strange coming out.

RE: manuke - Astara - January 06, 2019

the stranger avoided astara’s touch, stepping back to reclaim the space that the nightcub had taken as her own.

the melonii spectre did not close the gap; instead she watched as the woman spoke, understanding nothing of what the she-wolf said. however, the agouti woman’s tone was dissuading — possibly even admonishing — which elicited a band of hackles to arise along astara’s slim back.

she lifted her muzzle, her aubergine gaze studying the russet-backed wolf with coolness in their depths. and then, astara tried again — this time with a firmness to her posture.

RE: manuke - Kuma - January 11, 2019

instead of backing away, the girl just stood there quietly. the longer she stared, the more impatient kuma became. when she made another attempt, the woman stepped back once more and snarled. this girl must’ve been deaf. why else would she provoke a bear? childish confidence perhaps. she was well deserving of a beating, maybe then she’d get the point. oh, how the fighter inside her just wanted to lunge, but  no point in wasting her energy on this strange girl.

RE: manuke - Astara - January 19, 2019

astara was confident her second attempt would be successful. instead, it was anything but -- kuma had stepped back, and an explosive snarl burst from the mature woman's muzzle.

the wildling froze, glancing up at the wolf in an expression of confusion. what wolf did not allow itself to be formally greeted? she sniffed the air derisively, her aubergine gaze holding in it a flashing hint of contempt.

she did not try again; she was young, and perhaps a bit too courageous, but she knew a hard wolf when she saw one. finding there was little to do if this wolf would not accept a simple greeting, astara exhaled a fluttering sigh from her long muzzle and picked her way around kuma.

RE: manuke - Kuma - February 02, 2019

kuma wasn’t a social creature, it had never been a concern of hers. being thrown into this new land with new faces was overwhelming to say the least. she just couldn’t comprehend the girl’s intentions. if she wanted to converse than she would’ve done so already. in the old warrior’s mind her persistence was an aggressive act of some sort. instead of trying to understand she pushed it away entirely.

when the shadow slipped past her, kuma began to walk away. this short lived meeting was doomed from the start. she would continue on with her journey and hopefully find someone more sociable.
