Sundown in the Paris of the Prairies - Thresher - January 25, 2019

Following her sister's departure, Thresher felt slightly lost. Moorhen was gone with her, and any chance she had had at getting to know Lucas better had also gone out the window. Though she'd never really realized it before, there was a sort of isolation that came with living on an island. Previously, it had meant that she'd been safe, in one place, with all the wolves she loved- but knowing now and feeling what it felt like to see them leave made her realize that there was a much bigger world on the other side of the landbridge; one that had seemed so frighteningly immense to her, when she'd been stranded there, that she had lost most of her desire to explore. Now with Koi gone, though, she could do nothing but worry about her sister. Though the wolves she'd met on the mainland had been very kind to her- it was still so vast and open that she had never truly felt safe; not until she'd returned home.

As always, Thresher spent the majority of her time combing the beach, looking for little things that used to amuse her. Shells were pretty, but they reminded her of her sister. The little hermit crabs that used to scuttle here and there were pretty much all holed up somewhere out of sight for the winter. Driftwood lay scattered here and there, and there was still a large amount of debris that had been tossed up on the beach during the horrific storm that was interesting to see- but it all looked the same after a while. Maybe something new would catch her eye- so the keen little girl kept looking, roving this way and that in hopes of finding a treasure to bring home to her mother.

RE: Sundown in the Paris of the Prairies - Tahani - February 01, 2019

like Thresher, Tahani also stuck to the beach, especially since Currituck had left. she prowled the sand, watching and waiting for her daughter's return. she wouldn't truly feel at ease until Tatik was home. . .and who knew how long that would take? she might be in limbo for a long while.

the cream-colored girl nearby drew her attention; the black hair along her back reminded her of Tunerk, and the thought both warmed and saddened her. drew by the need for companionship, Tahani gave a gentle whuff, approaching the other with slow, quiet steps. it seemed that she was looking for things along the beach, which was also one of the healer's favorite activities here.

hello, she called out, smiling.

Shells were something her mother might like- but she had made her mind up to seek out a particular kind of shell, one that might have something she could take to her mother to cheer her up in Koi's absense. The idea had occurred to her suddenly, and she'd renewed her search, picking up and setting aside several shells that might hide a special treasure when a greeting whuff caught her attention and spooked her. Thresher leapt into the air in surprise and whirled around, but landed with grace, her tail waving inquisitively. She'd been surprised, but wasn't frightened to see a slightly unfamiliar face regarding her.

She looked the fluffy, older female over; she had a nice, kind look about her, and Thresher was quick to trust, even if she was slightly on the shy side still. She bobbed her head in greeting and lowered her plumed tail, which continued to sway in a friendly manner. 'Lo," She responded, ears flicking forward to receive what she hoped would be an introduction.

RE: Sundown in the Paris of the Prairies - Tahani - February 08, 2019

she herself bristled when the other jumped, but settled once the girl did, her heart returning to its normal rate. sorry, Tahani said with a small laugh, looking rueful. she shifted her paws, and then sat down, curling her tail catlike around herself and blinking down at the girl.

i am Tahani, she introduced herself. you are? while waiting for the response, she dipped her muzzle toward the collection of shells, her eyes glowing. i like--pretty. i do this, too. her common tongue was improving, if only by a little bit, by listening to the others speak here. she had been spoiled by the proliferation of Inuttut on the glacier, and back home, as well.

RE: Sundown in the Paris of the Prairies - Thresher - February 17, 2019

The woman who had come to join her was definitely the sort of wolf who would fit in well with the wolves of Undersea- she was soft-spoken but friendly, and seemed to have that caring, motherly nature that most of the female wolves had; a trait that Coelacanth seemed to draw in like a magnet. Her apology was instantly accepted, naturally, with a nod of Thresher's head and the low sweeping motion of her beige tail. She regarded the female with intelligent, interested eyes, and smiled as she introduced herself.

Her response, as per usual, was the nickname that her mother had given to her. "Treasure." She said, and then turned to look toward the shells she had collected. Tahani expressed her appreciation for them, thinking that they were pretty- but Thresher wondered if she knew just how pretty those shells could really be. So she motioned that Tahani could come closer, and nudged one of the shells toward her. "Maybe oysters. Oysters hold pearl." She said, and selected one for herself, and began the process of chewing along the softer outside rim of the shell, before trying to crack through the thicker, harder main portion of the shell. Once she was able to get the shell's edges to part a bit, she was able to hold down one edge with one of her paws and peel the other back with her teeth; Thresher had done this before. She nosed around in the shell, eating up the fresh seafood within, but found nothing in terms of a pearl. She shrugged. "Not this one. Yours?" She asked, gesturing for Tahani to try the shell she'd been given, in hopes that she might find something pretty.

RE: Sundown in the Paris of the Prairies - Tahani - February 18, 2019

Treasure was a pretty name, even if Tahani didn't know what it meant (or even that it was a nickname at all). it would suffice. she repeated it softly under her breath, and then came closer at the girl's gesture, eyes fixed on the shell. it was clear from her tone of voice that something special could happen; she waited with bated breath, watching as Treasure cracked it open.

nothing--well, not nothing! meat, that the girl ate up, and that was good enough for Tahani. but something was clearly missing, in Treasure's eyes, and so the healer did the same with her shell, trying to mimic the motions the girl had made.

her work with plants had improved her fine motor skills, at least, and it only took a couple failed tries for her to pry the oyster open. inside was the same meat, the glossy sheen--and a perfectly round, opalescent sphere, gleaming in the sunlight. her mouth opened in a silent 'o,' and she stared at Treasure, a smile slowly oozing onto her face.

so pretty, she gasped, nosing at the thing, then pushing the oyster closer to her new acquaintance. p-pearl? she tried, remembering the word from before.
