One season - Arbiter - March 09, 2019

She slowed to a stop, panting heavily as the rabbit she was chasing made some scampering sound out of sight in the distance.  Treason had probably kept chasing a fair bit after she knew it wasn't going to be a successful hunt, possibly out of frustration, but now it was definitely long gone out of her reach.  No question there.

So, it was to be something from the cache today. Treason was probably almost at the point where it would probably make sense for her to stop even trying to catch lightning quick prey like that.  But would she?  Probably not.  She didn't see herself as useless, so she would continue to do all of her normal duties, which included hunting, even if everything she caught (and then some) went solely into her own stomach.  Anyway, once she caught her breath, she started towards the nearest cache.  Maybe that, then a patrol or something.

RE: One season - Nunataq - March 14, 2019

If Nunataq was a person she would either be a notorious hoarder or an excentric art's collector. She had several secret stashes scattered all through Lost Creek hollow and besides some tasty food morsels and the usual junk (bones, rocks and sticks) she had got her paws on some unusual specimens as well. Such as... I am sorry, but I according to the Pepper Squad Terms and Conditions I am forbidden to tell the details of the Top Secret documents.

However, I am free to tell, what I see, and as Treason was nearing the cache she had intended to raid, there was a Nunataq lying there and working her way through a plastic bottle. This was a prized finding she had brought back from her journey at the coast. And, when the first shock of - what the hell are you - had waned, the girl wallowed in the delightful crick-crack-creee-ack! noise it made, when she chewed on it. She was as gleeful as a dog with a squeaky ball and she spared the leader she-wolf only a fleeting glance and few taps of tail to acknowledge her, but continued to chomp on the bottle.

RE: One season - Arbiter - March 15, 2019

She slowed down the closer she got to the cache because there was some completely bizarre sounding noise originating from that vicinity.  It wasn't like crunching of bone or sticks, it didn't sound like ice... It was this weird sharp sound that carried well and set her a little on edge.  It was unfamiliar.

Treason had slipped into a prowl, orbiting the edge of the area as she tried to spot whatever it was.  She stopped when she spotted Nuna, but wasn't exactly sure that was the origin.  But... It had to be?  Treason was coming from a pretty oblique angle and couldn't see what it was she was chewing on, but she couldn't spot anything else in the area it might have been.  Mystery wrapped in an enigma, and it had pretty much distracted Treason from her quest for food until she at least figured out whether or not that noise represented something she should kill.

Approaching slowly, she did one last scan of everything in sight then set her eyes on whatever infernal device Nunataq had captured.  She sniffed, but honestly from a distance she was comfortable at (longer than what would be conversation range), it was just Nuna and Nuna-drool.  She flinched a little at a particularly loud crunch, but kept staring at that weird kind of transparent thing for a few moments longer as she tried to figure out what the hell that was.  Not a damn clue.

RE: One season - Nunataq - March 19, 2019

Nunataq was an experienced hoarder and she knew a look of "awe-struck" (or it's nearest relatives), when she saw one. The knowledge that she had something valuable and interesting that the other wolf did not have, fuelled her with smugness and pride that she did not try to conceal. The tortured cries of polyethylene terephthalate creation continued with increased and purposeful intensity, while her eyes were shamlessly fixed at Treason's face, reading every expression written there. It was clear that she was showing off and any continued interest in her nonesense would simply make her to try even harder.

RE: One season - Arbiter - March 24, 2019

It seemed rather like she was just going to keep chomping, wasn't she?

With a frustrated huff, Treason tried to put her attention back to the thing at hand -- finding some food -- but it was going to be mixed results.  She was overly-paranoid of the noise she couldn't place, attention repeatedly being drawn back to Nuna.  She probably passed over the same buried hare twice before she came back to it finally and scratched at the snow and dirt that covered it distractedly.  If Treason had been actually looking at what she was doing, she probably could have been gone by now.

But in stead, the crunchening.  To a certain point she wanted to steal it and chuck whatever it was into the underbrush so it would stop making that noise but that didn't seem like it would go over well with anyone.  Half a rabbit uncovered, Treason stopped and took a few steps towards Nuna -- man, it was so tempting...

RE: One season - Nunataq - March 25, 2019

Yes, she would! And to spare a paragraph of describing the gleeful chomping on the bottle, Nunataq was not opposed for a verse to reflect both her heroic (and annoying) feats of making a symphony out of one musical instrument only.

Behold:

Crunch, crush, crunchity, crush,
Champ, chomp, gnawity, cre-e-e-ek!
Crunch, crush, crushity, crunch,
Chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp - GRIND!

Champ, chomp, chawity, munch,
Munch, crush, crushity, scru-u-u-u-nch!
Crush, chomp, champity, chew,
Munch, munch, munch, munch - BITE!

Chew, chew, chompity, munch,
Scrunch, crush, chewity, cho-o-o-omp!
Bite, bite, grindity, bite,
Chaw, chaw, chaw, chaw - RUMINATE!

And there was no steam coming from Treason's ears and nostrils now then either she was a holy martyr or had a particular taste in music. The cheeky and smug look of Nunataq told that she knew exactly, what she was doing and felt no shame for it either.

I paraphrased a "Bang, bang" song from HIMYM and used the online resources for synonyms to the word "crunch" and "chew". I think that this is the first poem I have ever written...

RE: One season - Arbiter - April 07, 2019

Okay, yeah that was freaking enough.  Neither option Treason could think of sounded good -- either just walking off and letting her "win" or going after her to make her stop.  Both had negatives.  On the other hand, at least Nuna couldn't tattle on her, really.  Treason tried a middle-ground -- she took another few steps forward, uttering a short growl and a kind of stern look.  Just a little bit of, "Knock it off, will you?" to see if she would listen to reason.

Not to mention if Nuna stopped for a second, maybe Treason could see what the hell it was that she was chewing on.  Even if she was irritated, she was still pretty inquisitive.  The object was still kind of a mystery.  She needed to figure out what it was so she could hide everything that looked like that so she'd never have to hear it again.

RE: One season - Nunataq - April 14, 2019

Nunataq met Treason's stern gaze with a cheeky one of her own. She wagged her tail to show that she had got the message, but nothing in her expression told that she had the slightest inclination to stop. The girl was addicted to the sound and would have gone on and on, until the piebald leader would probably be forced to apply more forceful measures, but something else happened and came to aid.

At one point Nunataq's teeth pierced the plastic and it cut her gums, making her yelp in surprise and pain and spit it out. Slobbered and having a long-suffering look, the bottle lied right in front of her feet. She eyed it accusingly, then leaned over to sniff it carefully, just in case it was inclined to "bite" her again.

RE: One season - Arbiter - April 29, 2019

Seriously, this chick had a death wish.  Well, maybe at the very least she wanted to get bitten since it seemed like Nunataq liked pretending she didn't understand a thing, even when approached with a pretty basic vocabulary.  Sure, there was some stuff she could get away with because she just didn't seem to get the whole talking thing, but there were limits and Treason wasn't going to let them be pushed forever.

As Treason was preparing to be a bit meaner in her demand for Nunataq to stop, whatever she was chewing on seemed to do it for her.  Blink.  Hah.  Serves her right.  Treason felt like the world had chosen a righteous punishment that wasn't even her doing.  For once.  It also gave her a clearer idea of what the hell that thing was.  And the answer was she had no idea what it was.  Some clear thing.  Treason approached to get a better look at it, also sniffing.  Um.  It was a clear thing covered in drool.  Not edible, whatever it was.

Either way, she wasn't the type to go and fuss over whatever might have hurt Nunataq.  It didn't seem like it badly hurt her, so Treason was fine with saying it was her own fault.  Deal with it.  Satisfied this delay in chomping might be enough for her to finish uncovering something edible before being driven insane.  So she turned on heel with a flick of her tail and went back to finish digging.

RE: One season - Nunataq - May 01, 2019

For one scary moment there Nunataq was afraid that Treason would snatch up the bottle and take it away. The big leader seemed like a person, who would be capable of doing that. And, what was worse, she was no Indra that the mute girl could disobey and push around. She sensed correctly that, if Treason had any lasting interest in the treasured object, she would never see it again.

The seconds ticked away, the lady seemed to be content with just finding out, what the instrument of true music looked like. Next instant she was gone and had returned to, whatever she had been doing earlier. Good riddance! Nunataq was no fool either. She snatched the bottle and dashed off to annoy a different corner of the Lost Creek Hollow.
