Verx rued the day he went down into Ankyra Sound and threw shade rather than teeth. He and Eastwood should have slaughtered all three of the women, right then and there. Perhaps Heda would be alive today. All the trouble that had come to them wouldn't. He'd have his voice, and he'd still be kru. But no, he'd chosen to run his mouth and underestimate the true threat.
Seriously, he'd been uneasy since Stigmata had mentioned wolves settling in this valley. Supposedly they were peaceful, but he'd believe it when he saw it in action. Funny how a leopard tended to change its spots when circumstances changed. How many were there? What kinds of souls were they?
Never again. Never fucking again.
He paced along the edge of the valley, beginning to sweep the perimeter. If someone wanted to come up and talk, great. But for his sake and for the sake of his kids--man, just try to touch his fucking kids--he was gonna get answers out of them.
