when i suggested maybe we don't bring the gun in, he was very obliging. - Figment - June 05, 2019

I assume he has an adult of some sort with him so I hope this is cool lol Also, thread title is a quote from my father

Fig was way liking this border marking thing. Not only did you get to pee all over the place (which was super fun when you were a wolf pup), but you also got to run around like all day! The boy bounced ahead of his assigned caretaker, stuffing his nose into a hole he'd spotted in the tangled roots of a tree along their path, shouting a long "Hellooooooooooo!" into it. He giggled as he stood back up and glanced backwards to see if anyone was watching and appreciating how silly and adorable he was being. Then, he lifted his leg, and marked it as his. Because that was the other awesome part of this--Figment could apparently have literally everything he wanted, all he had to do was pee on it.

How fucking sweet is THAT?

Since I'm assuming @Fennec is nearby, Fig glanced around quickly to make sure he still had her in his sights before trotting merrily ahead to go find something else to explore and mark. All in all, this new pack thing was cool. The walk here had been SUPER long and exhausting, but now that he'd gotten some rest, he was down with this whole thing.

Can we forward-date 36 hrs so it fits in my threadlog properly?

When he'd returned to the rendezvous site after his first round of marking, Fig and Fennec had been wide awake. Figuring they were ready to start seeing their new home, Phox had invited the two of them along for a short trip to mark the borders with him. Sure, they weren't very good at it (their bladders were the size of an acorn), but Fig seemed thrilled by the idea. So off they went!

They weren't anywhere near the actual boundary of the territory, but the pups didn't need to know that. Besides, it wasn't like the borders were the only places that needed to be claimed. Phox was of the mind to claim everything that laid inside that boundary, too. He hiked his leg, let a dribble fall out, then moved onto the next. Phox watched as Fig catapulted ahead of him, sticking his nose in a hole, then peeing on it like any good son would do.

Fennec wasn't far behind (she never was), and Phox kept a watchful eye on her as she blindly explored her new surroundings.

While Fig seemed to be thriving in their new home, Fenn hated it, and the adjustment had left her moodily sulking and ignoring most everyone for much of the day.  Even Fig, which was definitely not standard.

Before she'd lost most of the use of her eyes, she'd managed to grow accustomed to the layout of the Redhawks claim.  At least, the small chunk they'd been allowed on.  Over the past weeks, though, her vision had been deteriorating further, and it was now to the point where she could barely distinguish shapes unless they were moving.  Everything was a darkened blur, and the fact that it was an unknown blur made it worse.  She was scared, and Fenn did not like being scared.

She had tucked herself into the roots of a tree currently and was staring moodily out, her head resting on her paws.  She'd stay there until someone bothered her, but she wasn't really interested in exploring right now.

Whatever, dad. This is totally the borders and Fig totally had all the pee. You're just jealous that Fig's claiming all the cool stuff before you have the chance, such as this super awesome pinecone he just found laying here all unclaimed by anybody. We'll just do a little sprinkly sprink and BAM! Another new treasure for Figlet Redhawk.

The boy spun, eager to see if either Phox or Fenn had seen his cool new pinecone. Phox was doing a good job of being hoverdad, but Fenn was not being a very good partner in crime. He frowned at her nestled in her tree roots, unable to comprehend why she had been acting so weird lately.

"Does Fenny has a tummy hurt?" Fig asked, peering up at Phox for an answer. He could've gone and asked her directly, but she looked like she was in bitey-mode, and he was slowly learning that you didn't bug Fenn when she was in bitey-mode. Well, unless you were like really bored, or you wanted to play, or you wanted attention, or a plethora of other very common, everyday scenarios.

Fennec seemed more reserved than usual, but Phox wasn't too worried about it. He had known that the adjustment to the move would likely take time for all of them. If he'd known exactly why Fenn was having a harder time, he might have been able to help a little more, but he was kinda bad at remembering that she was blind and had to feel her way around everywhere (what a terrible, forgetful father).

Fig asked if his sister had a stomach ache, and Phox furrowed his brow at the smaller pup. I'm not sure, he confessed. Fennec, he said, touching his nose to her shoulder, Do you want to come play with Fig? Shouldn't the answer always be a resounding "yes"?

She wanted to be ignored.... but she didn't.  She didn't know she should ask for help because it didn't occur to her that everyone else didn't see the world the same way; as a mess of blurry darkness.  In her opinion Weeya and Papa were crazy to have come here and Feeya was crazy to be loving it as much as he was.  How were they okay with this?

No! It was resounding and resolute definitely, just not the answer he expected.  Stay.  She presses her back up against the tree behind her and buried her nose in the leaves at her feet.  This was a good spot for her right now.  It was small, she could feel it, and she wasn't too far from them still.

Phox didn't have an answer for him, which was unsettling in itself. Feeling anxious now, Fig trotted along behind his dad to where Fenn was curled up and peeked at his sister from behind Phox's back leg. Her response was angry and full of defiance, which was just plain startling to him. What did she have to be so upset about? They were in this awesome new place together, doing new things and having fun! He thought she loved doing things like this?

"Buh Fenny itsa aventure!" Fig protested, creeping forward to hide behind Phox's foreleg now (see? he's getting bolder, just not... bold). All the times they had charged out of the den together and into the unknown of the Plateau, they'd been laughing and enjoying themselves, hadn't they? This was just like that, wasn't it?

Fennec disagreed with them, and Phox frowned a little, then shrugged. She had all the time in the world to get used to her new surroundings, and he wasn't about to push her away by forcing her to play with Fig. Very well, he said, turning his attention to Fig. Fig, why don't we just mark things nearby? It's good to keep these borders nice and fresh. Okay, so they weren't the "real" borders, but Fig didn't need to know that. Phox was all about playing to both kids' strengths as much as possible, and he really wanted them to be happy with this little compromise.

He did hope that Fennec got back to her ol' self once she got over the initial grumpiness of being in a new place. Maybe if they stayed close, she would feel better about both being included and not going anywhere.

Fig's statement hurt because it was, and she wanted to treat it like that.  Every adventure so far had been such a good time, and she loved exploring new places.  If only everything wasn't so dark, and she knew where she was going, and what she was going to be running into.  The nearsightedness of the plateau was a far cry from this complete encroaching blackness, and this third month, when her transition would become complete, had been probably one of the worst times Phox and Towhee could have chosen.  Not that they would have had any way of knowing that.

She didn't know how to answer and just stayed moodily silent, keeping her nose buried and her eyes shut.  Her ears, though, stayed up... making sure they stayed close and didn't go too far, because even though she wanted to stay here, she did not want to be left behind.

Fig gazed sadly at his sister, hurt that she didn't answer and instead just tucked herself even further away from him. His ears fell back as his father spoke, recommending they just go back to marking the borders and leave Fenn to her own devices. He whined piteously, his eyes glued to his sister's golden frame even as he began to turn away. It wasn't until he would've snapped his own neck staring that he finally looked forward at his father as he trotted after him. He was conflicted now though as he tried to pee on all the things. He was excited to be in this new, cool place doing these new, cool things. But apparently in this place, he and Fenn weren't friends anymore, and he didn't know exactly where to go from here.

RE: when i suggested maybe we don't bring the gun in, he was very obliging. - Phox - June 13, 2019

Gonna go ahead and fade here. We need (an) updated thread(s)!

Phox was convinced that, with time, Fennec would come around. She would adapt, just as Towhee had. One way or another, Fennec would become just as strong and capable as any other Redhawk. That was exactly why Phox was trying so hard not to baby her every step of the way. If he treated her as though she were different, she would think that she was different. And she was, but not in a way that he thought she couldn't overcome. Being a father was hard, and she'd really thrown a wrench in things by being blind, but Phox was convinced that she was gonna be just fine.

As for Fig... well, he had always been one hundred percent capable. A perfect Redhawk superior specimen, just like his father. Phox smiled down on him, nipping playfully at him as they proceeded to mark the rendezvous site with as much urine as they could. He always kept a watchful eye on Fennec, making sure that she didn't wander off or get lost.
