the storm has moved on. they have not.
sometimes, they are accompanied by a figure. tall and wavering, it walks in silence except for when it speaks. when it does, Vessel listens and does not forget. dawn is breaking and it is fading, light and colour sweeping the cloud-strewn sky and dimming their vision. "you know, don't you? how insignificant, how vast." it does. it also knows that the figure is not real, for it is intangible, untouchable. but not all that exists is, and far less of that is truth.
the water is cold, and settles beneath its skin. they must eat, soon, but the water fills that void for now and makes it numb. they do not kill, not for moral reasons but because they seldom possess the capacity to, and so it is a scavenge that departs from the shoreline and moves ever parallel to the blinding expanse.
