if you're travelin' in the north country fair - Cortez - June 19, 2019 @Ziggy was missing his mama. he took the pale boy out for a walk today, letting him dictate the pace, all the while answering any questions the child might have. @Lana had declined to follow, choosing to remain near @Khali instead. he hadn't seen cam in a while, though it was much like him to sulk in the shadows. if he kept hidden, cortez would address it—but for now, he focused on one pup at a time. look at that,he told ziggy, nudging the boy and pointing him toward a monarch butterfly that had just landed atop a flowering bush, the orange vivid against the green and pale pink. his companion hopped in place with delight, only to become quietly despondent as the monarch, thus startled, fluttered away. you gotta be still, cortez said kindly, settling down on his belly. here, lay down with me and we'll watch and see if any more come. i think this is a butterfly bush—so they like to hang around, here. the flowers must smell really good to them.they smelled good to him, anyway, fresh and sweet. it was a little moment of peace, here with ziggy, watching for butterflies. engrossed as he was in lifting the spirits of elysium's downtrodden ranks, cortez was beginning to feel slightly drained. now, he could relax, if only for a spell. RE: if you're travelin' in the north country fair - Atwood - June 30, 2019 atwood, having badgered @Seabreeze into walking with him, is seemingly unbothered by what he'd witnessed. of course, that isn't completely true: the image of bloodshed and the loss of his mother have buried deep into his bones, in the funny way trauma does to small children, an unnameable ache he will feel for the rest of his life. but on the quotidian level, at least, he acts much the same, constantly pushing to get out and just walk and observe, shadowing his siblings and adults he comes into contact with, a little unusually quiet (or unusual, if he hadn't been sired by ariel, at least). seabreeze gently points him towards the other child, who he regards with muted interest. he's lost his mama too, seabreeze gently reminds him -- he remembers arguing with cam about it. this one isn't cam, though. without a glance at his mother, atwood trundles closer to cortez and ziggy, and silently mimics their position, lying out on his belly next to the pale child. he doesn't know what they're doing, or why, but it's nice to find someone else who likes to sit and watch things quietly. RE: if you're travelin' in the north country fair - Cortez - July 06, 2019 sound and motion nearby caught his attention, and he turned to see seabreeze and atwood approaching, the former of which he shot a smile, the latter he beckoned closer with a nod. hey, kid, cortez greeted softly, careful not to disturb the myriad butterflies nearby. ziggy looked up briefly but was soon distracted again. aren't they pretty?he whispered, grinning. his eyes followed one in particular, a brilliant-hued yellow butterfly that stuck out even among the bright flowers. brighter than the sun, even—what yellow could be that bright? if it grew dark, cortez thought, the insect would glow. he turned to the boys, his eyes twinkling with sly, good humor. did you know that butterflies look like worms when they're younger? you know what worms are, right? |
