the bird falls directly into her path with a dull thump. she's taken aback a moment, pausing with one paw held uncertainly over the ground. in a second, she discovers two things about the bird; it doesn't belong here, and it's missing its wings. a second is all she has, however, for a raven swoops down before her and swiftly snatched the body back into the treetops. for a second, she feels the burn of its inky, soulless gaze.
she cranes her head back, attempting to spot the creature again. "hey!" she calls, sharp and demanding, but receives no reply. a long moment passes, then a flurry of movement. a tiny, pale wing falls to her right, and this time, no one follows it.
