Before the lake freezes over - Catalina - November 20, 2019 The female branched out of the territory today and searched for a bit to eat. Winter was fast approaching and she needed to be as healthy as possible if she wanted to survive it. Catalina had threw a mouse into the cache and thought before the lake froze over she try fishing for the first time. @Vanity. RE: Before the lake freezes over - Vanity - November 20, 2019 So. They had eaten, the pack was fed and now Vanity could rest for a day. She decided to go for a walk and see if there were any cool things to find at the lake, like some feathers. Feathers were nice to collect.
She dipped her nose into the freezing water, weeting it so she could then search easier for things. It did smell a bit fishy here, and there seemed to be a lot of fine bones on the shores. Interesting. Something had massacred the population here. Probably otters. Ahead, she caught sight of someone fishing. Watching the water intently for something to come close by. "I don't think you'd have much luck fishing in this lake." She called with a smile. You needed deeper water to fish because they wouldn't swim into the very shallows, and it didn't seem like the time of year to wade deeper. Though, as the woman got closer, she could smell a pack. She hesitated slightly, casting her gaze around. Where was there another pack? There should only be the Nightwalkers and Moonspear. She held up her soft smile and kept her tail waving, hoping that she didn't seem concerned. RE: Before the lake freezes over - Catalina - November 20, 2019 She wasn't exactly expecting another wolf to pop up but surely enough they had. She had heard (being vague) of another pack visiting Roangeda and was a bit on edge however her current posture held no hostility towards the white faced woman. The girl had a smile so she relaxed only a bit. She tried putting together words before she spoke but that too proved to be difficult. "Oh, ..suggest any hunt spots?" She knew she had to get this new language down eventually but it was proving to be difficult as well, "sorry, common tongue no good." RE: Before the lake freezes over - Vanity - November 20, 2019 Her head tilted a bit at her words. Her accent. Home.
She was from home. Vanity felt touched, like someone had just injected her heart with lava. It hurt, but it was so warm. IT scared her too. Was the pack she was in made up of wolves sent to hunt her? "Entonces quizás esto sea mejor." Her tail waved just a bit more, hoping to make a connection, to see the light of home within the girl's eyes. She saw some recognition in Serem, she had probably learned a little in passing, but this girl was from Mexico, surely. "Los ríos son mejores para cazar." They tended to be deep and fish were swept about, making it harder for them to escape you. In a still lake, you had to wade deep and fish could leave your vicinity quickly. RE: Before the lake freezes over - Catalina - November 20, 2019 Her ears pricked up a bit at the familiar tone and Catalina let out a sigh of relief at the familiar language. It had been so long since she heard the language that her eyes widened a bit. "Mucho mejor, gracias!" The words flowed smoothly and the female was glad that she didn't have to stutter or sound ridiculous. Catalina heeded the females words however she knew not of the area enough to go any further. "oh sí, sin embargo, creo que el río más cercano está demasiado lejos para viajar" RE: Before the lake freezes over - Vanity - November 20, 2019 She didn't know where this girl came from, where her pack was based. So there wasn't a river where she was. Vanity thought for a moment and then wondered how far the river stretched behind the forest.
She decided it would be worth mentioning because she really did want to have this woman as her friend. Perhaps she could entice her to join the Nightwalkers. Or just kidnap her. Whatever suited Vanity. "Al sur de mi bosque, corre un río allí." Maybe her statement would be enough to get her to provide where she came from. And a name. "Los ríos son más pequeños y los peces no pueden escapar rápidamente." It would be good to know why she should bother traveling further for a meal. RE: Before the lake freezes over - Catalina - November 20, 2019 It felt nice to be able to speak smoothly and with someone who reminded her of her homeland. If it hadn't been so far she would have visited her family; see if they were okay but she was a part of a pack now and couldn't just disappear. She listened to the woman's advice. "vengo al oeste de aquí" was all she said really. She would of said her pack name but she was still working on its pronunciation. "Oh, nunca recibí tu nombre. Soy catalina." RE: Before the lake freezes over - Vanity - November 20, 2019 West. That was the fen. Everything else was just plains and rocks and stuff. Nothing habitable. Nothing but the fen... So the deer herd was a result of them moving in...moving into Nightwalker lands. She wondered how this herd had survived not being picked off by the famine.
"Mi bosque es este. Somos los Nightwalkers." A pack name was important to staking a claim against others. She would have to consult Vengeance about this presence, for she was the second wolf Vanity had come across of the pack. "Soy Vanity." Her reply came, providing her name. It was only polite. RE: Before the lake freezes over - Catalina - November 20, 2019 She didn't know how to respond or react and worried she may have trekked into their territory but she hadn't smelt any scent marks upon arrival. "¿Me he entrometido?" She asked not wanting to get anyone upset. "tu nombre es hermoso y es un placer conocerte." RE: Before the lake freezes over - Vanity - November 20, 2019 "Por supuesto no." She was quick to reply to disperse any fears. The lake was far too far to call it her land. Well, this part was, it did border the trees further around. But the borders are clearly marked there, it'd be impossible to accidentally trespass into Nightwalker land.
"Gracias, el tuyo también es hermoso." She appreciated the compliment, especially from someone native, with a native name. Her Mother knew how Vanity would turn out and named her accordingly, or perhaps it influenced her. Either way, it was fitting. RE: Before the lake freezes over - Catalina - November 20, 2019 Her posture was soothed and her heart returned to a normal steady beat as the female sighed in relief at the knowledge that was given to her. If wolves could blush that's what she would have been doing right now but alas they couldn't. "Gracias." Their was a short silence between them and she didn't really want their conversation to end but didn't know what she could say to keep it going. RE: Before the lake freezes over - Vanity - November 20, 2019 Naturally, the conversation ended. She didn't want to poke into her pack because if she touched the wrong thing, it might raise serious suspicion she was gathering information.
So she decided it was best to do what she loved to do. Make her squirm. Vanity approached Cat, softly letting her breath tickle her under her chin. So close, but if she didn't get snapped at, it would be worth it. She lifted her nose to her ear, "You smell good too." It was true. She had that hint of home she supposed they never really lost. She turned so her body was alongside Cat's and sat with her, brushing her nose behind Cat's ear, provided she hadn't already lept away with a snarl or something. RE: Before the lake freezes over - Catalina - November 20, 2019 She had been only accustomed to the pleasantries of men try to get at her but never woman. It was a new experience for her but so was affection at all, she was a naive female for the most part. Her father always telling it was wrong to want things if that manner. But then again he was her father and would have deemed it better that she never know the world. She was speechless but she didn't shy away from the female. RE: Before the lake freezes over - Vanity - November 21, 2019 She felt the soft buzz of confusion and feeling of breaking the rules, course through the woman.
Cute. She wouldn't do much more, and she should probably get back to give her ample time to be distracted by other things on the way home. Very tenderly, she took the edge of Catilina's ear between her incisors and pulled. Not harshly, but enough to send a tingle through the sensitive body part. "Make sure you visit, dulzura." Then she upped and moved off home, as did Catalina. They would see each other again soon. |
