Electing strange perfections in any stranger I choose - Reiko - November 24, 2019

28°, currently it is snowing and set at dawn. Located in Rising Sun Valley, emberwood | ooc notes: for anyone in UG! | tagging: @Ibis - for UG forming thread

It wouldn't be as effective as in the summer, but she would try anyway. In the last week, she had been gathering as much of the herbs and other medicinal supplies she could find before the frost would rot them once and for all. Since beginning her adventure, half were lost to the process, while others seemed to be holding more firm.

This was when she missed her den back at Whitefish more and more, she had a garden there, ready for winter and she wouldn't be struggling as she is now to prepare for the worst to come as winter grew more fierce. She had built herself a temporary den (or permanent, depending on what the pack chooses as their denning area), somewhere to store her herbs as they dried the best they could in this weather. Hidden under a bush, it kept the warmth as much as one would think, away from the snow and winds.

Emerging from the hole, she shook her fur from any twigs and crunchy leaves that clung to her as she dragged herself out from the hole in search of more herbs to try and dry. Keep trying, some had to survive.

the ground was beginning to freeze. the topsoil was soft enough to break but the depths below required effort that they couldn't afford to exert. it confused the scout to have seen two of her packmates making the same futile attempt. maybe it's an arctic thing, she thought, and released the subject.

bhediya chuffed to announce her approach. are you making progress? she asked the blanchard, a smile contrasting her furrowed brow. the two of them, they'd seen each other once before. i'm bhediya. you?

A voice called out, normally it wasn't directed to the snowy damsel, and so she had gotten use to simply ignoring it and moving on; but the approach of another had nearly confused her. It seemed this time, this time she was being addressed by someone other than @Sativa or Ibis. Somewhat... Some are drying better than others, maybe if I cut them smaller they will have a better chance. She half said to herself while speaking to the lovely ebony woman.

This was the woman who had caught Reiko's eye at first. Beautiful curls and twilight fur, she couldn't see her eyes at first but now she could see they were vivid green. She really was quite pretty, and Reiko perhaps felt a little bit of envy for her - in a friendly manner, of course, she was happy for the lady to be born with such traits. Reiko.

sorry for the short post :(
from the angle at which bhediya stood, it was difficult to see the herbs reiko was referring to. she craned her neck and took a small step forward for clarification. what're you collecting them for? there were some wolves who enjoyed collecting plants and herbs for the fun of it, but bhe found that to be particularly wasteful.

RE: Electing strange perfections in any stranger I choose - Reiko - November 28, 2019

Thats okay! I'm still trying to get into the swing of things with her, she's my toughest character to write for rn lmao

Bhediya struggled to see what was happening and instinctively Reiko moved out of the way, sidestepping as if to try and give the woman more room to see. I'm preparing. She started, shuffling her feet shyly before continuing, feeling the rush of explaining her herbs once again. I'm trying to dry them out so they don't rot in winter, just in case we need them. Pulling her chin back into her chest, she wasn't certain how the ebony woman would think of her attempts.

For wounds or sickness. She added softly. Despite the struggles, she enjoyed working with herbs once again rather than constantly watching her back out in the unclaimed lands. Here she felt at ease just enough to do more productive things. Sort of like a medicine cache. It's easier to dry them in summer...

from what was being said, the scout deduced that reiko had been decently educated in her field. having a healer around, especially at the turning of the seasons, would prove useful down the line. bhediya felt reassured knowing that the health of the pack lay not in the paws of hunters and scouts.

snowflakes, just large enough to be seen, fell gracefully from the overcast sky. the scout peered at the steadily rising sun. all you need is sunshine, right? that's a year-round commodity. again, bhediya had about as much caregiving knowledge as did a carving stone.

hue hue hue just one more post and this will be perfect for a trade thread lmfao a little boring, sorry TAT

Mmm not quite. She said with a tilt of her head. Not very many knew of how to preserve herbs, even Reiko was learning by trial and error - but why not share what she had learned recently? From what I dried so far, the cold does just as good as the sun. So long as they aren't wet. That was for the ones who didn't turn into mush and grow moss - a few seemed to have crisped up nicely.

Hopefully no one ever needs them, and I will test them soon enough of myself. Make sure they retain their healing abilities even if dried in frost. Unfortunately for Reiko, Ibis would get sick very soon and Noki will go check that thread to see if it's time to join it. They would be tested much sooner than Reiko would have liked, but it would be the beginning of a great learning experience.

RE: Electing strange perfections in any stranger I choose - Bhediya - December 01, 2019

my only motivation for writing this is to GET REIKO'S TRADE!

bhediya nodded along despite her confusion. how would reiko test the herbs, if not by afflicting herself or someone else with some assortment of ailments? she didn't want to ask and potentially embarass herself, so bhe chose to stay silent.

what are these ones called? the scout asked. in her opinion, every herb looked the same. it was always impressive to find a healer capable of remembering them each by name.

#WARCRY!!!

Azure eyes followed the emerald gems of the black beauty, Those are Sage, good for all kinds of sores and bellyaches. She wouldn't bore Bhediya with all the small details but she was glad to share something. The cache was for all to use, after all, she would be more than happy to give some lessons to anyone willing to learn. If find yourself having... Not wanting to say the next few words out loud, she leans in closer to Bhediya and speaks in a softer tone -

Diarrhea. After whispering the word she straightens herself up again and continues at a normal speaking tone. Please come and chew on some, it shoud allieviate it for you.

RE: Electing strange perfections in any stranger I choose - Bhediya - December 01, 2019

there were few things that phased a mother and diarrhea was not one of them. it was important to know what to take and where to get it, should the need arise, so bhediya found herself grateful for reiko's explanation. okay, i'll remember that.

the herb talk did interest the scout for a moment, but she soon found herself bored. you have very nice eyes, she told the girl before standing to walk away. i'll see you around, okay?

RE: Electing strange perfections in any stranger I choose - Reiko - December 05, 2019

Thank you for the thread! <3

Behind her, her tail flickered. Proud of being able to help someone out just a little through education. Like a puppy just exploding with glee. She was straight, with a humble air of nobility while feeling just a little useful for once, a feeling she hadn't felt in a long, long time. Only for it to falter and come crashing down the moment the compliment came fluttering by. She didn't expect it, and her heart exploded into glitter.  Ah! Er - ey - Stumbling over words, all she could muster out was a weak little Iloveyourcoat! maybe a little too quick to be understood, it didn't help that she sounded like a drunken idiot either, set a tizzy from the random flattering remark of one so pretty themselves.

...yeah. She sighed with an awkward smile, embarrassed and still a little warm in the face. She'll just go back to tending her herbs.. yes, that was something she was best at.
