I'll steal a car, or a bike or whatever there is to steal - RIP Niamh - February 03, 2020

Though the past few days had been warmer, it seemed like Spring wasn't quite ready to announce itself, though Niamh had a feeling that it might be an early one. She hoped it would be, anyway- as any amount of winter was too much winter for her. The temperature, which had hovered around the freezing mark, had dropped back down again, but she still harboured some hope that winter would be over and done with as soon as possible. At least the herds had come back, which piqued her interest, but...She wasn't quite sure she should be, in her hormonal state, going far from the pack.

She finally let herself roam around a bit- assuming Bronco was patrolling the borders as a means of avoiding her- and decided it might be best to hunt down @Wraen, as she figured it might be best to speak with her and come clean quickly rather than too late in the game. It wasn't as though she could change what had happened, nor would it curb her feelings, but...As a leader, she did feel as though she had some input, and her input was that she simply be left be to do what she wanted. Wraen had wanted her to be with the Blackthorns in the Honoree rank- and part of that, she convinced herself, was to carry on popping out babies to hopefully compete, one day, with Finley's record.

RE: I'll steal a car, or a bike or whatever there is to steal - Wraen - February 04, 2020

Wraen had a peaceful moment of contemplation of her own. She had returned to the watch-tower boulder near the western borders, where it offered her a perfect view over the lands that stretched beyond Firebirds' claim. There she had climbed up, settled down and idly observed the surroundings from her makeshift throne, while her mind wandered.

Now and then her thoughts returned to Arcturus in the mountains, then they thought about friends and family she had not seen for a very long time. Random scenes from either the past or her stories wove through the colourful fabric. She even fell asleep for a bit, until she caught sound of someone approaching and turned to see Niamh.

Wraen did not leave her spot to go down and greet her, but watched her come close enough to be spoken to. "What's up, Niamh?" she asked, tilting her head to the side and preparing herself to be amused.

RE: I'll steal a car, or a bike or whatever there is to steal - RIP Niamh - February 04, 2020

She caught sight of the pale, greey coat of her Sovereign in the distance and picked up her pace, even though it appeared as though Wraen was resting, if not napping. But she lifted her head, and the glint in her eyes was as kind as ever, so she didn't feel so bad, interrupting her leader in the calm state she was in. Of course, the sensitive topic might very well send her into a rage- but somehow...She didn't really expect a reaction that was anything along those lines. Having never heard about the way in which Wraen had attacked Towhee while she'd been in heat, Niamh was given no reason to assume that she too might be punished for mating without permission. She also couldn't recall ever seeing Wraen angry, so...She was led to hope that she could save her skin on this one too.

She was very aware of her current hormonal state, and when Wraen prompted her, she tilted her ears back humbly, and couldn't help the somewhat guilty, awkward grin that stretched her lips thin over her teeth. "Well...I never been good at beating around bushes so I'm just gonna h'address the, uh, lelliphant in the room," She said, with a shrug. "Is....Are we...Against the idea of anyone having kids this year?" She asked tentatively.

RE: I'll steal a car, or a bike or whatever there is to steal - Wraen - February 05, 2020

From the easy-going way Niamh addressed Wraen, she had to assume that her popularity as extra-butt-hole puncher to her pack-mates, who mated freely, had not become widespread. Which was good - the Sovereign liked to keep up the image of being calm and wise. Though in Niamh's case... come to think of it, it would have been amusing to see, how she would have acted around her had she known that the Buddha-like leader could turn into a fire-spitting fury.

She did not reply to the question directly - an annoying trait of hers that she was well aware of, but as Jess had already put it so nicely - being a leader came not only with jobs but with some liberties as well. "I understand that you want to enter the field this year?" she asked.

RE: I'll steal a car, or a bike or whatever there is to steal - RIP Niamh - February 05, 2020

That wasn't the reply Niamh had expected, and she'd already had a ramble-fest of an answer ready, going on to say that no one else was really eligible, as far as she knew, and that she'd still work hard, and...Well, it really just rambled on from there, but she was caught off-guard with her Sovereign's cool response. One ear flicked back, half expecting that this might be some kind of trap. Then again- why should she think that? Wraen wasn't the kind of wolf to flip her lid over something like this. So she swallowed all of her rambling nonsense, and nodded.

"Uh, yes," She said somewhat tentatively, and then added "With Phox." The two were on good terms, weren't they? Surely even if Wraen had heard or witnessed any of Niamh's stupid schemes, she'd have to have had some faith in Phox's parenting abilities.

"Mhm," Wraen nodded and did not say anything for a while. She scrutinized Niamh's expression and wondered, if she should push further her inquiries on, whether the honoree "had already entered the field" and was asking for permission post factum. If that was the case, she could give a brief lesson on "just because you are a leader does not mean you can do anything you want".

It did irk her a bit that her subordinate might have gone behind her back and done stuff first and asked questions later. But she had no proof and just hinting out that she suspected Niamh of doing such a thing (even if it was a good guess), would not place her in a positive light either. "Does Phox know this?" she asked, pointing out that she did not see the intended father-to-be in person.

RE: I'll steal a car, or a bike or whatever there is to steal - RIP Niamh - February 07, 2020

She felt Wraen's calm gaze upon her, and perhaps it was the first time that she sensed what Wraen was really capable of. Niamh was predisposed to look down upon others who did not meet a specific set of personality traits and physical skills, and tended to place her value in brawn and fighting skills. The better the fighter, the better their chances at maintaining their rank in a pack, right? But though she knew that the Firebirds were intended to be a peaceful pack, she got a glimpse, now, into a different kind of power. One that didn't come, necessarily, from having a savage temper or the bulk and height to make a frightening impression. With all the gentleness of her eyes, and softness of her toned, but not excessilvely muscular form- Wraen exercised a different kind of power, now. A quieter one, but not one that Niamh respected any less. Niamh had to admit it- Wraen had the poise, composure and regality of a mountain lion without having to flex her claws.

Niamh didn't feel belittled- but she did feel very self-aware in that moment, and she wasn't terribly comfortable with it. Wraen had stopped to think and reflect- things that Niamh didn't normally do, but was forced to do in the present. There was a very heavy what if? That hung in the air, that made her somewhat nervous- but at the same time...She couldn't help but feel excited.

Eagerly, she nodded. "Yes, he- we talked about it. He's with Towhee, I think" She said. "We...Towhee'd be a big part of their lives, too," She said. She glanced up at Wraen, but decided not to ask if she knew much, if anything, about Towhee's own situation. That was Towhee's business, and she didn't feel it was her place to say anything to Wraen if Towhee hadn't chosen to tell her on her own. She and Phox were not having children for the sake of giving Towhee some children to help care for- they wanted children because they wanted them, and they wanted them together. Towhee being a part of that family was simply natural.

RE: I'll steal a car, or a bike or whatever there is to steal - Wraen - February 07, 2020

"Well, then it is settled," Wraen replied levelly. She was blissfully unaware of all the drama that had taken place between Phox and Niamh previously. As long as their turbulent relationship in no way affected Firebirds as a whole, she had no interest in meddling in their personal matters.

"However, I want you to tell Phox that, though you two are not mates, I will not look upon kindly on any other children he will father with someone else and not you this season," she added, her tone serious. "Your children will be under protection of the pack with all the liberties and benefits that come with it. But I will not extend my cordiality to any illegitimate or accident-litters of his, if such happen," she told.

"If you and Phox can reach an agreement on this - you two can go ahead. If not - neither of you have my permission to breed," she finished. "This refers to this particular season, I do not care, what you do later," she thought she should elaborate. "I want you to understand that I am not asking you this because of a fancy whim, but from experience. First, the resources of the copse are limited to raise young well and provided. Second, I wish to avoid any future conflicts between children that have different mothers, but the same father."

Settled. Well...What did that mean? From Wraen's tone, she could only hope that it was the good sort of settled, so she chanced a smile, though it was faint and ready to falter should Wraen then use the fact that she and Phox were not mates as a means of turning her down. She hadn't mentioned that they were mates- because they weren't...Not officially, anyway. The decision had come about so abruptly, and they had decided to roll with it so quickly, that it simply hadn't seemed like the right time to go about such a ceremonious thing as taking the title as Mrs. Phox Redhawk. She had done the same with Colt- and had committed to him before becoming his official mate...And had had to repeat the gesture again, after their breakup. But she was hoping to carve a different path with Phox.

Rather than warning Niamh about casting her gaze elsewhere, she pointed out that Phox wasn't 'tied down' by a title, and Niamh couldn't imagine him doing anything that Wraen hinted at, and a sort of huffing laugh came from Niamh at the thought. "Oh, I wouldn't exactly tolerate it, either," She said. Niamh was a jealous creature- and if she was having children with Phox, no one else could. She liked the fact that Wraen put the emphasis on Phox not being unfaithful- as it was in her mind, the least likely scenario. She had been distracted by others in the past- but with Phox as the father of her children, she felt she wouldn't want for any other.

"Thanks Wraen," She concluded. "An' I'll make sure he don't 'fraternize' with any other women...Though I really, really can't...Well, he just wouldn't, see. He's a real good father, an' we'll both be honest parents." She finished, with conviction, with a simple shrug. It was unfathomable. "I'll be keepin' him so busy he won't have time to even look elsewhere," She said, wriggling her shoulders and smiling, flaunting her prettiness. She was sure she could catch and hold someone's eye for long after she'd gone out of sight- and espcially with children in the mix...She was sure Phox would not stray. "We'll raise them to be proper li'l Firebirds." She said, committing herself to the task.

RE: I'll steal a car, or a bike or whatever there is to steal - Wraen - February 07, 2020

Wraen did not know Phox that well, but she knew that first impressions about people could easily be wrong and that everyone had flaws and could make mistakes. She trusted Niamh's judgement and hoped for her sake that she would never be wrong about her choice of father to the children. Figment and Fennec had turned out well after losing their mother early in their childhood, they had good relationship with their remaining parent and she wished that the future offspring should be equally blessed.

"Keep him busy and do not let him stray," she joked light-heartedly. "And if he wishes to discuss the requirements I made, he can call me any time and we can talk," Wraen said. "So - go off and do your magic," she dismissed her subordinate. "And tell me of results, when you know for sure!"

RE: I'll steal a car, or a bike or whatever there is to steal - RIP Niamh - February 07, 2020

Humour. There it was- and just like that, Niamh found herself relaxing, and at the same moment, appreciating her Soverign's method of leading all the more. She'd done nothing to cause Niamh fear or insecurity, not in any physical aspect, really. No baring of her teeth, no posturing, no threatening tones...But as Niamh had been in the position of want[i] and Wraen had been in the position of [i]authority, she had had the control- and had not abused it. She offered guidance and support, and once Niamh's wish had been granted, she had released the tension as simply as she had come to hold it.

Niamh was wowed. She'd have to try to figure out exactly what it was that Wraen had done to get where she was- as Niamh was used to getting what she wanted with force, seduction or lies. But if she could pull a Wraen and have her children obey her the way she felt drawn to obey Wraen...Parenting a new litter of pups would be a breeze, wouldn't it?

Niamh, naturally, had a worse sense of humour than Wraen, and so she gleaned a slightly different meaning to the Sovereign's words, and answered with a laugh and a wink. "Right. As long as all the two of you do is talk, though," She said, as a playful warning. Wraen had, after all, just told her to make sure he paired with no one else. "An' I'm sure the whole pack'll know if an' when I start showing signs of bein' pregnant," She said. "If it's as rough and long a pregnancy as last year, y'all'll be sick of me within three weeks," She laughed, as she stood up. Having been told to go and 'do her magic,' which Niamh thought was a cute way to put things, she nodded. "See ya later...An' thanks again, Wraen." She said, before she trotted off, with the intention of using her magic to cast yet another spell over Phox, and keep him in her grasp for the rest of the week.
