intergraation - RIP Atreyu - August 12, 2014

For @Kyrillos :D Apologies for the wait on this

In amongst the tall trees the boy roamed, his scruffy pale coat flashing in the moonlight. He had still yet to make a proper den, instead preferring to sleep in nooks and crannies in the forest as he had done when he was a loner. Tonight would be no different. Every tree root or hole in the ground earned a glance over from Atreyu as he inspected. Some were too small or too deep or had the distinctive smell of another creature within it. He knew better than to intrude on some badger or fox's home.

His searching that night took him deep into the forest, the night growing darker and darker as the canopy above became thicker overhead. A small clearing caught the boy's attention, standing out in the brightness of the moonlight as it shone through the parting in the trees. It was an odd-looking place, small divots dotting the area and the scent of food wafting from it. Curious, Atreyu padded forward (though still remaining in the shadows), trying to recall if Ragnar had mentioned his place in his initial tour of the Bay when he had been accepted. The cache? No, foreign smells also hung around the area, along with the thick scent of the Jarl. Perhaps a den site?

Its fine, :)

The moon shone down on the agouti captive, making his brown fur shine bronze. Once again, he was staring at the ink-black sky, at the stars that twinkle across the sky. They were free, and he wasn't. But that wasn't all he was thinking about, he had lost his pride and wasn't going to get it back anytime soon. Best try to be nice to anyone that comes here, he did not wish to add another punishment to the list.

A faint gust of wind brought a new scent over, one of Stavanger Bay and young. The scent of the pack though, was rather new. So it was a newcomer then, hopefully not here to torment him. Though it was rather curious, most would not be awake at such an hour, especially not a yearling.

"Hello," he called out, gaze still on the ink-black sky, the only light from the moon and the stars.

A sudden voice caused Atreyu to retreat quickly into the darkness of the trees, startled. He hadn't expected another to be here. Raising his muzzle and testing the air, he quickly scented the other. They, too, still had only the faintest of Stavanger Bay's smell on them along with the thick and obvious scent of male. Creeping forward cautiously, the boy emerged from the shadows, glancing around for whoever had greeted him. He quickly found the stranger, his dark coat hiding him from view though noticeable if one knew what they were looking for.

Atreyu looked up at the sky too when he noticed the male had his head tilted back, wondering what was so interesting. "Are you out hunting, too?" he said, turning back and studying the wolf. He was large, much larger than Atreyu, his fur a mixture of browns and blacks and creams. It didn't look like he had been hunting or even had the intention to. Not that Atreyu did either but he felt like he needed a better excuse than trying to find a place to sleep to be wandering around so late at night.

"Are you out hunting, too?" This wolf was indeed new to the pack. Slowly turning his golden gaze onto the yearling, eyes half sad, half amused. "No, I am not allowed to hunt on this pack's lands." he did not think that the yearling was really out hunting, no one would usually be up this late hunting.

He tilted his head slightly, "Do you not know what this place is?" his voice was polite and calm. He did not wish to aggravate another pack wolf, besides what point would come out of it. Just another punishment to add to the list he already had. As if it wasn't enough already.

Eyes the colour of the sun turned to him, flashing a curious look as the stranger spoke. Atreyu flicked his one working ear, wondering what he had meant by that. He had taken the male to simply also be a newcomer to the pack...unless. The boy's hackles bristled as the irrational thought entered his mind — what if the man was a trespasser? Though what trespasser in their right mind would wander this deep into the territory and then announce that were most definitely not meant to be there? Eyes narrowing, Atreyu straightened a little, his childlike curiosity replaced with guarded wariness.

At his question, the boy glanced around them, though keeping one eye trained upon the brown male. "That is Stavanger Bay," he answered slowly before his ears perked as he realised what the stranger had actually meant. "Oh...uh, no, not this place in particular."

"That is Stavanger Bay," said the boy slowly before realizing what he really meant, "Oh...uh, no, not this place in particular." The dark agouti nodded slowly, bright golden eyes scanning the dark sky again before his gaze landed on the male's again, not challenging him.

"This is the captive's hold." he said quietly, waiting for the realisation to dawn on the younger wolf. Wondering what would be his reaction to what he had just said. Laughter at him for being a captive? Confusion? He did not know, as he waited his head tilted back again, looking at the stars.

The captive's hold. After his answer, the agouti male then turned to the sky, seeming to just let the knowledge sink in for his companion. Atreyu's brow furrowed as he swept his eyes across the area again. Well, it did indeed look like a den site. What he hadn't known, though, was that Stavanger Bay took captives. He had never heard of such thing before! What use were captives anyway? Were they used for sacrifices? Slaves? The boy couldn't help but let out a quiet snort of laughter, studying the dark wolf and assuming this man was a prisoner. He had stated he wasn't allowed to hunt here, after all.

Paranoia crept up his spine then and Atreyu wondered if he was even meant to be speaking to the captives at all. What if Ragnar or one of the wardens of the Bay were keeping guard? Glancing over his shoulder to check, the boy figured it was probably in his best interest to continue on his search for a den. "Well, uh, have a nice night, prisoner," he said almost scathingly though with a cocky grin still on his maw. He couldn't help but judge those who had been taken captive; they could easily escape after all, right? Just swim on right out of the territory? Giving the man one last look, Atreyu then wandered off at a quick trot, resuming his search for a place to sleep.
