We built this right, so nothing's ever gonna move it - Rosalyn - March 30, 2020

The ire she felt at the strangers in the bay had given way to quiet acceptance after a long talk with her wife.  Starting off another new life with conflict wasn't worth looking back; a new start was what they needed.  There wasn't much to distinguish this new place they'd chosen, but that was just as well... and it was situated nicely between a verdant forest and a beautiful bay.

A part of her actually liked that it was near the coast but not there.  Without the sand taking a portion they had a wide space for prey and less risk from the dangers of it.  Their children would be old enough to realize its dangers before they could even hope to approach.

She appraised the sweeping land with a critical eye, then began to jog for the forests.  It was time to see what this new place had to offer.

"de nex' time someone comes to ask about caiaphas, i say we tell dem to fuck off," erzulie suggested in an amused sarcasm, bumping lightly as she fell into step with her wife. they would not make two moves only to reconnect with the rotten legacy the seawitch had left behind.
a smile tipped to rosalyn then; she could not press as closely as she might for a kiss, given her gravid flanks. "well? you got your wish. home before de children arrive."

Rosalyn gave a quiet, quick laugh at Erzulie's comment.  Honestly.  It seemed every visitor they'd had was looking for the siren... and why?  You'd think moving would have shaken that, but apparently her name is the only one others know.  She replied.  Then she smiled.  I guess that means we've been doing something right.  If not, they'd come looking for others, yes?

She sighed, then, and leaned in gently as she mentioned their new home.  She had to admit... it felt good to start fresh, and the salt air tasted clean here.  There was familiarity, but no ghosts.  It's a beautiful place.  Aningan and the rest had chosen well.

no ghosts, no spirits, no lingering residue of angry shades that would haunt them again. whatever they created here would be their own. she kissed rosalyn's jawline thoughtfully. "it is de most beautiful because we are all toget'er here."
a sigh. "you see how happy de children are now dat we came back? we need to keep dem happy," but it was less a jest and more a determined statement. "next year dey will be able to be mot'ers and fat'ers demselves. i have considered dat dey should build a pack of dere own." a thought, but as always it could not be a reality without rosalyn's input.

Rosalyn listened quietly.  She was glad too that they were happy to return, though she wondered how long the charm would hold.  Soon the same troubles of the plateau would become troubles here... and would the proximity be enough?

Those thoughts were scattered by Erzulie's revelation.  Rosalyn liked to think she knew her wife well by now, but this came as a complete surprise and it showed plainly.  Their children, form a new pack?

I'm not sure, she admitted slowly, glancing out of habit as if to ensure they weren't overheard.  As she mulled it, it became less clear.

Who would head it?  Nieve has no desire, and the rest...  she trailed off, not wanting to be harsh, but with clear doubt.  Their first brood was full of capable wolves, but none were consistent save Nieve.  She saw so much anger in Reyes... anger that would turn disaster with his refusal to trust.  Marisol was sweet but distant, quiet... leadership would drown her, no doubt.  Scarab was gone, and Nieve had stated clearly where her intentions lay.

Rosalyn looked at Erzulie, curious.  What was she planning?

rosalyn was logical, direct, and confirmed things that erzulie considered. she nodded, though the gleam of determination remained in her eyes. "much can change in a year. at first i t'ought reyes had de coldness to do what needed to be done. now i know it is nieve."
"i am afraid dey will disperse and disappear like scarab," the harlot admitted, chin trembling for a brief moment despite herself. "if we give dem somet'ing to do ..." but perhaps she saw the futility of it now, and swallowed harshly.
"i simply do not want to lose any more children."
she was not sure she deserved those in her belly now.

Rosalyn nodded.  She understood where it came from... though if she knew Erzulie's doubts she'd have argued fiercely against them.  Of the two, she counted her wife the far fitter mother.  But would that not always likely be the case?

She wanted to promise they would not, but she couldn't.  It was becoming clear to her that a part of motherhood was the risk of loss, by age or by distance or by tragedy.

I sometimes wonder what they think of us.  If perhaps our willingness to step aside isn't a part of it all. She confessed.  It wasn't a large fear, but on occasion she did worry that their children judged their decision to allow Aninigan leadership.  Their family dominated the pack and their claim and reputation was irrefutable.  Did they resent it?

Perhaps Nieve will change her mind, she added.  It was a good plan, and she did enjoy the thought. Something to do would suit them fine.

RE: We built this right, so nothing's ever gonna move it - Erzulie - April 23, 2020

"what i would like is for dem to never leave home," erzulie breathed, vulnerable and willing to be so only with her wife. "to marry here. to have children here. an' to never depart. to be by de sea always."
she turned her smile upon rosalyn, sighed. "i t'ink nieve will make a good leader to rusalka." one day. it would keep the goldmaid home at least, but their daughter had always done best inside their borders.

She felt similar, and she knew in the first of these she'd failed.  Her son was lost to her right now in a good many ways, if not as lost as Scarab.  I think, if we cannot make them stay, then we can make something worth coming home to.  She said, agreeing.   Nieve would be a good choice for that.  Do... you think Aningan would yield?  And more important, would Nieve wish to take it if he did not?  The white wolf was a boy and Rosalyn had little regard for his capabilities... yet some regard for him as a packmate and friend. Nieve might hold the same.

RE: We built this right, so nothing's ever gonna move it - Erzulie - April 24, 2020

"well, i had hoped dat aningan would eventually elevate her himself." erzulie had already herd the challenge of rosencrantz — she would rather no more would come till after the puppies due to arrive had lived in a state that was not one of change. "i will enjoy being home. guiding de stars through de sky."
erzulie leant her crown against her mate's shoulder, breathing in the comforting scent the pirate wore always. "i have said it before, but where you are is home. we can make a place anywhere."

She liked the thought, but wondered if he would.  He'd seemed so startled by the thought of assigning a second... only by her prompting had he elevated them.

Erzulie's next words made her laugh softly.  Aye.  She agreed, returning the guesture by leaning in close as well.  For us it is enough.  But is it for them?  Their children... and the new.  She wanted to make Rusalka a place where they too were content.  She'd found a rock in her wife to anchor against, but it seemed all of their progeny drifted.  What would anchor them?

RE: We built this right, so nothing's ever gonna move it - Erzulie - May 15, 2020

"i t'ink it is. i hope it is." she could not know that in the coming weeks, her eldest children would fade into the backdrop of the sea, or how the small nature of rusalka would not allow for a swift departure to locate them. and so now there was only a laugh in her; she butted rosalyn with her crown.
"come an' hunt wid me, wife," she invited, straightening, stretching luxuriously.

can archive here I think!

It was worthless to worry.  She'd known that all her life, but it suddenly seemed that with age she couldn't stop.  No, not with age - with a family.

Aye, she responded, smiling as she attempted to shake the mood as easily as Erzulie had.  She was right.  They could do little else to make it home; they'd moved back to the sea, built a home where they could be together, and gathered wolves who seemed to truly care, in a way, about one another.  It was a ragtag band but those had always been the best crews.  Misfits that fit together, because those were the type to rarely have another option left.

Getting to her feet, she accompanied Erzulie, ready to put her mind to more practical uses than spinning.
