pretty brown eyes - Caerus - April 17, 2020 moonspear wolves maybe? or LWs?
His mood was soured by the latest interaction with his father and Yehudis. He thought of it now, kicking his feet as he trudged through the wood that was becoming more familiar all the time. Aibreann had treated him kindly... but for now, he needed to go beyond where they could find him. If they did not want him, he would send himself away- and so when he reached a point in the forest that was no longer familiar, he continued, and continued, until the scents of his people became the strongest- and then dwindled entirely. Nose sniffled curiously at the air and ground that no longer smelled of Mal, or Cupid, or Valencia- but of foreign wolves he had never met nor smelled. He paced forward further, sun rising over the world as he met the glen for the first time with wide blue eyes. RE: pretty brown eyes - Jarilo - April 17, 2020 After a howl to tell his packmates of his intent (and invite them if they wanted to come), the steely Ostrega was out on the hunt and he was not about to be discriminating in his tastes--anything that would pad their caches would work for him. That was the main goal, and of course, he would not hold back in adding Moonspear traffic to the Glen at their doorstep. Considering that Hydra and Kukutux both had litters on the way in that order, and he had very high investment in the stakes of both of them, he was quick to be very protective of all of it--plus, they still had missing wolves and enemies abroad. Just in case, may as well keep a lookout from here, too. Jarilo's route had him swinging wide and by now, had distanced himself from the heights by sunrise. None of the trails steering him out this way had been fruitful enough so far, but he wasn't worried. There was plenty of day left. After he finished up a quick pee on the biggest tree that caught his eye, he prowled on after a little hint of.. he wasn't all sure. That curiosity weaved him along further and his nose quivered over another clue. Ears twitching, he heard the young wolf before he found it exactly.. and went walking up towards his view, slowly. Pups made him cautious. Pups not of their own made him downright suspicious. Not immediately detecting an adult around a whelp that young--he was bothered. Not exactly what he had come out here to hunt for. What are you doing out here?he asked, spying the youngling who smelled like the pines. His furs gave a wary ripple, hoping this mottled thing's mother wasn't about to assault him before he could shoo him back home. RE: pretty brown eyes - Caerus - April 18, 2020 Ears turned forward and up towards the unfamiliar and strange-scented man before him. At first glance he appeared similar to Valencia- but he lacked her bright spot, and he knew it couldn't be her. And that smell! Nothing like Neverwinter. The man's words made him smile. He'd been noticed! Not at all like with Yehudis- he was receiving attention already and he'd barely had to try. Not half-bad. wha!!He imitated comically, followed by a babyish giggle of eheeheeheehe!!!He bent down into a tiny playbow, tail wagging. Maybe he could greet this guy like Mal- and words were starting to be hardened into his head for the first time, and so he blurted out hai!!! RE: pretty brown eyes - Dirge - April 19, 2020 Hydra had sent him out to hunt, wishing to savor a particular delicacy. Of course, she hadn't quite decided on just what that was, but he had been inclined to oblige her, if only to kill two birds with one stone. She'd get something to keep her entertained and he would get his entertainment out of it with a jaunt. Hunting was a fair way to keep him distracted from the goings on. At least that had been the intention until a crosswind brought him a trace of Jarilo. A winding path drew him towards the sable wolf gently, perhaps too leisurely for all that went on. He didn't worry about whether or not he would pass up the opportunity of finding a good morsel of anything; the glen afforded them the chances of such on a regular basis, and they were far from greedy in rifling through its options. Soon after, he found Jarilo, and was enveloped by the standoffish wave that arose in his stance. It intrigued him as much as it did set him on edge, and his scope of their surroundings felt as though it widened in a blink. Yet even Dirge could only survey so much at a distance even as it closed. "Jarilo," he called softly, only for the next line of any announcement to be cut clean by the shrill call of something—rather, someone—very small. Not even growing grass sprigs could fully hide the child and in turn his hackles prickled with immediate unease. He came to stop just off to the right of his in law, nose working as furiously as his gaze searched through the glen beyond. The heady scent of the pines reached him. "Where's the mother?" Concern laced his tone; he didn't like this at all. [party crashing ensues]
RE: pretty brown eyes - Kane Ardelean - April 19, 2020 Tags for reference. This post is after the thread where Hydra accepts him into Moonspear pack, though his rank hasn't been changed yet. Dunno if you want your characters to recognize that yet or not? Up to you. Since meeting with @Hydra, Kane had been wandering arounf the Firefly area for a while simply getting his head together and improving his self worth. Kane had a task now, he had a role to defend others and it was important he continue to do so. More importantly, it was important to himself that he would not let himself down again from the oaths he took on as a warrior of any pack, or even just lone. His own personal creed is what he lived off of. Not having at least that meant he had nothing. As he turned a corner around a slight hill, two adult wolves, and a very excited pup, stood together in part of the glen. The adults smelled similar to Hydra, so Kane knew they were part of Moonspear. Would these wolves be part of who he would be protecting? As he got closer, letting out a low bark to announce his presence, the Dirge had a hint of Hydra attached to him somehow. Was this her mate? Kane would be extra respectful to Dirge because with Hydra being the Alphess, it meant that Dirge was the Alpha. Though he knew not his name yet, Kane would know it in time. "Gentlemen." Kane greeted with a bow, giving them space to asses him. Kane looked to the pup who had a much different scent to the others. "This little one shouldn't be by himself." Kane said, quickly glancing around the glen. Being in a wide open space left the pup vulnerable to hawks and other predators, so it was good the three adults found him when they did. RE: pretty brown eyes - Cupid - April 19, 2020 CAERUS!!Cupid's distressed calls shook the ground of the glen. His son was near, his scent was strong here. Jesus fucking christ, how the fuck did he get out here?! He’s safe in the forest at one moment, then a quick nap later and he’s gone. Cupid was never gonna sleep again after this. There'd be 24/7 surveillance on his son at all times, mark his word. Alright, he was definitely getting closer. His heart leaped for a moment, and crashed down as soon as he smelled them. And when he saw those random dudes hovering around his baby, oh, he never wanted to kill someone so bad in his entire life. Fatherly instincts kick in. He rushed forward—teeth bared and tail high— and stood over Caerus. A low growl rumbled in the depths of his chest. It's a clear warning. RE: pretty brown eyes - Jarilo - April 19, 2020 As the words left his mouth, he eased to a slow stop and ohhh no, that puppy looked way too happy to see him--big smile and all gave him no room to doubt that. While cute, true, he was too hung up on everything that was wrong about this.. being someone this terribly, ridiculously young out here where he could find him. This wasn't what he planned to deal with. If you think wandering puppies are funny, I guess, the dark Ostrega eyeballed his little playbow. He was awfully friendly, and he had definitely never seen markings like those. Confused, conflicted, and scanning the horizon for signs of actual Neverwinter adults again, Jarilo swished his tail with a notch of frustration in it. Whatever you think you're up to out here... you do gotta get yourself back home, little dude,he emphasized, and about then, he heard Dirge, who appeared not long after. Jarilo gave him a splayed-ear look, and shot it right back to the pup. Really wish I knew,he sighed, glancing then from the alpha back to towards the directions of Neverwinter's pines. The rest of his statement trailed off when an unfamiliar fellow appeared to greet them. Smelling Hydra on him measured back Jarilo's initial reaction, but he was still unsure about such newness. Now wasn't leaving him a lot of room for more mysteries. At least he seemed on their side, vaguely enough, so he would try to take that in stride. He answered first with a nod. Obviously. He's real lucky nothing nasty has found him yet,he remarked, and perked his head; approaching from the woods, someone was calling. Sounds like they must've caught on...he said, giving a defensive pivot and rise of his furs when a stranger came rushing in towards them after--towards the pup, most of all, and at least appearances matched well enough to not concern him. Still, Jarilo wasn't going to balk entirely, though he left some space behind his hard stare as he backed off from the pups a few steps of his own. You're welcome then,he droned, none too appreciative of the teeth when he should be at least a little thankful they didn't eat the thing themselves--or let the kid find those who earnestly did hunt wolf's flesh. Moonspear had no real interest in the survival of neighboring packs' pups anyway--the eventual competitors to their own, most likely. What if he had wanted to act on that? Thankfully he did not, but oh how easy it could've been. There's a whole lot worse than us he could find out here.he imparted as he moved on towards Dirge's side, likely to prepare a leave soon if this was going to be the case. RE: pretty brown eyes - Caerus - April 19, 2020 ooh I am so happy look what I've created
The man offered more words, next to none were really known or understood by Caerus. Maybe in time- but not now. He stared on blankly, quiet though tail still wagged rapidly behind him. But soon, something more exciting presented itself- another one, and another! All of them smelled relatively the same, but all foreign, and his nose wiggled wildly as he breathed in the unfamiliar scents. How exciting! None of them were smiling or wagging their tails, but that was okay, because he seemed to be the star of the show. He was happy with that. Caerus bounced back to his full (tiny) height, scampering in a puny circle on the ground before wide blue eyes returned upwards once again. What was that thing Mathieu had done, which had been so entertaining? Melodies were not something he understood, but he would try his damn best, and so he began to hum to the percieved audience, hmm-hmm-hm-da-wa-hm- And was interrupted by a new guest. His own name shook the earth, he had begun to learn it but had never heard it uttered in such an... aggressive way. The boy whirled around, wide eyed as a deer caught in the headlights. Cupid stood above him, and he shouted excitedly, duh-da!!, tail wagging more eagerly than before. The growl hit his ears, but he had only ever heard such things in play, and so did not understand the seriousness of the situation here. Instead he scampered to dad's leg and wrapped around it like a little snake, arms grasping the dark limb in a baby-hug. RE: pretty brown eyes - Dirge - April 19, 2020 Things fell together in rapid succession. They were joined by a third soon thereafter, a wolf that Dirge had not seen before. Hydra's newest recruit in the last throes of her own wandering, if he had to venture a guess; the newcomer was not spared a pointed leer, but Jarilo's voice saved Kane from the barbed words Dirge did not impart and only swallowed. The obviousness mattered not—a yell distracted him directly after. This time, the tease of the pines told him all he needed to know. Mal's lot. His hackles stayed prickled with discomfort at the sight. Dirge couldn't fault the parent in this case—presumably, anyway, there was much of this scene he couldn't quite figure out to place a finger on—but he found humor escaping him with a puff. He appreciated the deadpan delivery of Jarilo then, and let him have his moment in the limelight as he brought his gaze to him. "It's just Neverwinter returning the favor we gave them," he said smoothly to Jarilo. "When Dragomir and his sister were young, they stole away to there in search of their father. Our response was similar to this, rightly so." Back when Neverwinter was only a thought and had little substance, but Mal had certainly persisted until he succeeded. Respectably he thought, but perhaps not if a child so young had managed to venture so far. His gaze rounded back on the parent and their child and all the eccentricities once more; it was sharp and stern, now lacking his amusement. "I'll spare you the lengthy spiel your leader once told us—mind your children and keep them close. This wilderness is not a kind place these days, nor have they been for a time. Better it us that you did find instead of the hunting churls that would prefer to prey on your young." RE: pretty brown eyes - Kane Ardelean - April 20, 2020 Kane was trying to remain respectful of the two adults that ranked above him, keeping himself lowered, and distant so they had their space. Kane watched the little pup and then heard the shouting. Sounded like the parent was coming back. Kane agreed with Jarilo. Kane was also glad nothing picked him up yet. Being out in the open put the pup at risk of being taken by a hawk. Kane remembered when pups in his pack had faced such tragedies, and the parents that had to suffer the consequences of relaxed supervision. As the group wondered where the voice originated from, the darker colored parent came to the rescue and stood guard over the pup, a reaction that wasn't unexpected. Kane took steps back to allow the parent space. Kane remained silent as the alpha spoke to the parent, mentioning something about the favor that Moonspear have to Neverwinter. Neverwinter must have been another pack nearby. Kane recognized the stern tone that Dirge took up, warning the parent about keeping his children close. Pups were important to the pack and their success. To allow such negligence was in Kane's mind disappointing, but sometimes pups foun their own secret ways to escape causing situations such as this. Kane only hoped that the pup would learn its lesson and not wander away from home. RE: pretty brown eyes - Cupid - May 04, 2020 sorry about the wait!
As soon as he stood defensively over his son, two of the three gave him space. Great choice. He's 99% instinct and 1% sense right now. Cupid would snap at anyone who stayed too close for too long. The most important thing to him now was protecting Caerus. Fuck this little lecture they were giving. He knew he was supposed to keep an eye on his son, this was just one little slip up. The only thing of note were these "hunting churls". It didn't sink in now, but come tomorrow and Cupid would be all sorts of anxious about it. When they had said there piece, Cupid looked down at his child with a frown. It's a good thing Caerus didn't know much of anything, otherwise he'd be scolding him for hours as soon as he got home. Keeping a very close eye on him will do for now. But enough about that, it's time to get the hell out of here. Cupid picked the boy up by the scruff and turned around to start heading back. He wouldn't acknowledge the trio (apart from a quick glance or two) unless they wanted to start something. RE: pretty brown eyes - Jarilo - May 04, 2020 He canted his head first, but now wasn't the moment to inquire at length about their own wandering pups moons ago--and he was fairly certain that Dragomir and Isilmë had never known the mountain at quite that small and that circumstance had been different enough back then, but beyond the similarities, that past was neither here nor there at this moment. Jarilo kept a watchful eye trained on who had come for the cub, and with his alpha's more eloquent warning, the dark Ostrega was quiet beside him in support in case anyone had any resistance. Which.. given the utter lack of response from the Neverwinter wolf, they wanted nothing to do with it, so Jarilo just sort of shrugged at it in an oh well we tried sort of way. When he picked up the happy pup and went on his way, leaving the Moonspear trio to be, he watched them head back towards the pines. Once out of his sight, Jarilo finally pivoted to glance between both of his packmates, Dirge first, then the stranger. Well.. that's on them, I guess,he huffed, regrouping now that he didn't have to be so anxious about that puppy that still left a faintly-lingering concern. I came out here to hunt deer trails, not wayward pups. Want to keep at it..?he offered to them both, pairing with a soft tail-sway as he jerked his muzzle towards the rest of the woods--in a direction opposite Neverwinter's pines. Though I don't think I quite got your name yet. I'm Jarilo,he mentioned, green eyes on the fellow who he guessed was a new addition that Hydra had accepted into their fold based on scent. Once the initial surprise of him had settled off, he could stand to be a bit more personable. RE: pretty brown eyes - Dirge - May 05, 2020 With nary a word more, all Dirge did was watch the parent and child pair disappear back the way they should have been going in the first place. Which left them to more pressing matters that they should have been concerning themselves with—namely, what he had come out there to do in the first place. An agreeable note left him; more wolves to the cause would certainly benefit the whole of Moonspear if they could net something much larger. "Best that I had, lest your sister prefer to take her share of food out of my hide. I came out here to hunt myself on her behalf," he murmured, amusement not entirely lost. His gaze followed Jarilo's then, settling on the unfamiliar wolf still left in their midst. "And I'd presume our guest is one of her finds. Correct? I'm Dirge." RE: pretty brown eyes - Kane Ardelean - May 10, 2020 Once the situation was over and done with, the tense air began to free itself. Kane expected nothing less from an angry parent, but it would have been nice to have received a "thank you" of some sort, but whatever. Kane sighed and sat down as Jarilo and Dirge began to speak. Kane nodded, also trying to be more relaxed in appearance. "Yes, Hydra brought me in fairly recently to the pack. I was out venturing around the borders and decided to take a short cut. My name is Kane." he said, nodding to both the males. "Dirge.. I've heard your name. Hydra mentioned you to me upon joining. You're our alpha." Kane said, respectfully bowing to him. "And Jarilo, you are our Gamma." RE: pretty brown eyes - Jarilo - May 24, 2020 Through a short nod, he smirked over Dirge's grim prospect.. but knowing his sister and the mysterious wrath of gravid women that he did not want to test, he wasn't going to doubt. On his side of things, he didn't suspect Kukutux would want to skin him for returning empty-pawed, not yet anyway (though give her a few more weeks and maybe she just might).. but at least if she did decide to, he trusted that she could make him into a nice rug if all else failed. Anyway, that was about why he was out here too: to get the jump on any of that even becoming a need. Hunting for her was what he should do now, and if success could mean Dirge got to keep all of himself too, then even better. Anyway, it seemed that Kane--as he could now know him by, came to them pretty well-informed about their family for a recent addition to their ranks. Jarilo nodded easily to him for confirmation. I'm glad we're a bit more caught up now,he chuffed. I think between the three of us, we can find something worth bringing back to the Spear,he said as he set off striding southbound, roughly enough unless Dirge had a better idea to guide their course. The glen had made for prosperous hunting grounds for the mountain for years; Jarilo had no reason to doubt that today would be any different, so went onward with that in mind, content with his company and happy enough to put the Neverwinter pup and parent well behind them. RE: pretty brown eyes - Dirge - May 24, 2020 With Jarilo taking point, Dirge fell in behind him easily and presumed Kane would follow. At least now that they were acquainted and well acquainted with the proverbial pecking order things would go a bit more smoothly he thought; he was just as thankful to put the bizarre turn of events behind them. “The elk should be beginning to return with their young,” he thought aloud to the group. “We could try for a calf if we’re feeling particularly lucky. But if not, well, there’s always the deer lurking about. Since last year’s debacle they don’t seem too keen on being brazen and crossing through the lowland of our claim.” Of course, that was a minor price to pay given that they had endured a famine and just as untimely one catastrophe after another. As long as this year proved to be quieter on that front then maybe he wouldn’t deem it as bad. Besides, they could do with stretching their legs and guiding prey through the glen all the same. RE: pretty brown eyes - Kane Ardelean - May 25, 2020 From introductions to going off to get something for the pack to eat. Kane felt like this was a good move after the tense situation. Kane was glad to see that the others were just as happy to move on from the earlier situation. Kane hoped that the pair that left, the pup and adult, would learn from this situation and improve on it. Only time would tell for them. Following quickly behind the pair, Kane listened in on the thoughts from Dirge. Kane mused on the idea as he followed, paws guiding him through the grasses as he went. "But with food being as plentiful as it is here, eventually they should come back, I would hope." Kane added to it. An Elk calf would make quite a meal for the pack if they brought it back and placed it in caches, though an adult would feed for days. Between the three of them, it would be more possible to take down a calf than an adult without injuries of course. RE: pretty brown eyes - Jarilo - June 13, 2020 This discussion about food was starting to work on his own appetite, now that he thought about it--despite not being what brought him out here. An elk calf would be good,he agreed. Been a minute since I've had a good chance at a fresh one,he went on to mention now that he put his nose to the course in earnest. Maybe he was feeling lucky, or overzealous. Either way, he had good company for the pursuit between the three of them; his spirits, bolstered, and mood rising the further from Neverwinter they went. Deer would be a decent backup plan, but for now, he was beginning to find himself set on the opportunity an elk may present. So, he went onward with that idea at the forefront, ready. When he caught wind of something potentially worthwhile, he gestured towards his packmates, abandoned his conversation for the time being for favor of a lighter approach, and went on towards a potential hunt.. |
