Link it to the world, link it to yourself - Kallik - May 18, 2020

@Ikiaq
but @Nanook @Siarut @Taktuq and @Selamuit welcome too!
forward dated 1 week to 5/25

The first days of his life passed by quickly, filled mostly with sleeping and eating. He found he really enjoyed those activities and hadn't been bothered to participate in much else. What else was there to be concerned with? Life had been great so far; his needs were met swiftly and completely.

But today when his empty stomach had woken him from sleep, it wasn't the usual darkness he was accustomed to. A startling brightness greeted him. Kallik lifted his head and looked around but all he saw was brightness and blurry forms. It was a little alarming, and he let out a few soft squeaks. Nothing happened at first. But he could feel the usual warmth around him, and he issued a few more, louder squeaks. Was anyone around to help him? There must be something wrong.

He hadn’t been gone long. Only far enough to grab something for Nanook to eat, before resuming his vigil at the entrance to their den. Soending time with his wife and children was his only past time since their birth. He hadn’t been out hunting or patrolling. Quite frankly he couldn’t remember the last time he spend his whole time with his mate. They were coming up on a year since their return. It hadn’t even been a whole year and already so much had happened. But he realized the crippling doubt that often followed his mistakes was absent. Looking down at the four pups, he knew that even if given the opportunity, Siarut wouldn’t change anything. All his long life, this was what he had been waiting for.

As he approached, Siarut gave Nanook a familiar head nudge, taking her scent against him. The tiny squeaks of his son drawing his attention south. A pair of sparkling blue eyes staring back at him. Oh hello Kallik. He crouched down with a gentle smile, bumping him with his nose.

The world was still quiet, but he could now put a fuzzy blob with one of the comforting scents that always seem to be around, providing them with warmth. Kallik was suddenly quiet as something wet and cold touched him, his cries dying out into a soft hiccup as he stared up at the white blur. Moving was still quite the challenge for the tiny bear, and he really didn't have to do it often; food and warmth seemed to be readily provided no matter where he was. But now he was curious, and he wanted to be closer to see if the shape of the blur might become clearer. He wobbled back and forth a few times, slowly dragging himself a few inches towards the blob.

He managed to mostly turn himself, but then got too confident in his ability, so instead of making the last scoot to face the white blur, he pushed himself over. Kallik plopped to the side, rolling on his back and teetering there a few times before landing back on his other side. He was silently stunned for a few moments, but then his fear and uncertainty made him cry out again for help, his panicked squeaks filling the den.

While Siarut ached to help the boy as he tried to get closer to him, he also knew that he was growing. He needed to exercise his legs, so he would grow. At least that's what Nanook and Valette had told him. So he waited patiently for Kallik to make his way. Gentle murmuring of encouragement as he went.

Until he got too bold, Sia silently wondered if this might a developing personality trait. But he scoffed at himself. Kallik was still so little, there was still no way to tell what his personality might become. The boy wavered for a moment, all four paws up in the air, before he finally landed on his opposite side. Silence reigned for a moment, the shook startling the boy, and Siarut wondered what he was going to do next. Sia smiled gently and nosed Kallik again, just letting the boy know he wasn't alone. "It's ok Kal, try again."

His crying ceased immediately when he felt his father's nose brush against him reassuringly. He lay where he was for a few seconds longer before his curiosity won out over his fear of the newness. He managed to roll his chubby body back over so that he was splayed out on his round belly. He looked up at the large blur above him; the scent was familiar and comforting, and now he had a sort of picture of him too. Kallik stared up at his father for a few more moments, completely silent. His tail began to wag behind him and whimpered a little. He wanted more interaction with this form that always brought him warmth.
