Let's make some new friends - Steph - May 21, 2020

@Journey @Soleon @Sunny

Steph was ecstatic that she and Sunny were back to the way things were before they parted ways last summer. All week, she had been working on putting him behind her, and moving on. Turns out, Sunny had remembered her all along. Now, thoughts of a whole new life appeared before her, and she was ready to take it on.

She had gone in search of some fresh meat, something to take Easthollow to say thanks. Unfortunately, prey eluded her today. She traveled a little south, to Flycatcher Downs. It was cloudy today, but at least the rain had let up for the moment. Scents were still washed away from it, however, and Steph could find nothing to make her think she'd catch anything here.

RE: Let's make some new friends - Soleon - May 21, 2020

Soleon had decided to stay nearest Journey. It was good for her to have a guard of sorts. Though, he was about as vicious as a caterpillar. And her bursting personality kept him on his toes. It allowed the time to pass a bit quicker. From her tales she knew wolves from this place, but she herself didn't seem to be any more tied to it than he really was.

They had set out together and at times he had struggled a bit to keep up with her. Seeming to travel a bit all over the place. But a destination would eventually make itself known.

In the distance a figure loomed. His eyes narrowed in and, for once, she was actually walking beside him. He slowed to a stop and attempted to nudge her hip gently with his own nose. They weren't alone anymore. He was likely to be the more hesitant of the two.

As it would turn, however, the boy did not just want to inform Journey of a possible new acquaintance. He wanted to give the other a chance to know they were also incoming. A throaty chuff flew from his throat and he watched Journey. She was more unpredictable than the stranger honestly.

RE: Let's make some new friends - Journey - May 21, 2020

Travelling with Soleon was great fun! He lacked the sort of familiarity with her that allowed Brave to be such a pain; even when she was making quite a nuissance of herself, he seemed to have endless tolerance. And she, of course, was on her best behavior — but it was surely wearing to have such an energetic companion.

She had tired herself earlier in the day trying to climb a tree to reach a bird nest. All her toil had amounted to a bruise backside, sore muscles, and a pair of robin's eggs that'd broken against the ground when the nest dropped. Journey had invited Soleon to clean up the mess, but was not above licking egg off the ground if he wasn't interested in the snack.

Now she was happy to plod alongside him, mainly allowing Soleon to navigate and look out for danger.

When he caught her attention, however, danger was the furthest thing from her mind. She looked up with a sleepy, "Huh?" to scan the horizon. "Oh, look!" she cheered when she saw where he'd been trying to direct her attention. "Hey!" she was calling only a beat later, picking up the pace a fraction to lope in the other wolf's direction.

RE: Let's make some new friends - Steph - May 21, 2020

Steph hadn't been paying much attention to her surroundings, and didn't realize anyone was around until a resounding Hey! reached her ears. Her head shot up, and she seen a figure coming at her. Thankfully, her brain caught up quickly, and she read the body language as friendly, not threatening. Steph responded in kind, and her tail wagged at the impending introduction.

She smiled and walked towards the wolf, only then noticing there were two, and she paused. The other, while not unfriendly, seemed cautious. They outnumbered her, so she was the one at a disadvantage. Hoping that first impressions would be positive, she once again strolled towards them. Hello, I'm Steph, she offered, her voice light and friendly.

RE: Let's make some new friends - Soleon - May 21, 2020

soleon did not like physical conflict. things usually could be resolved with words, unfortunately, his kind was one that was often times quick to arms. he was much more the diplomat in situations he felt.

although he was actually trying to warn his new friend he found that when she also spotted the other dark wolf she bolted off. did she know her? whilst he kept behind her, and not quite matching her gait, they would arrive and the colorless stranger would introduce herself.

of course journey didnt know her. a less aware man would've let out the sigh he held back.

his own emerald eyes looked towards the stranger's equally reflective gaze and he nodded to her, "I'm soleon," he refrained from introducing journey thinking she would make herself known....or at least make quite the impression.

"apologies if we are disturbing you. we were just passing through," his tail feathered back and forth as he attempted to make a friendly gesture. knowing journey they'd be getting to know this steph in just a moment.

RE: Let's make some new friends - Journey - May 21, 2020

Soleon would find that Journey was moderately more respectful of Steph's space than of his; it was not exactly that the males in her life had not been as respectable as the females. Just that she'd been the darling of her father's eyes, and doted on by her uncles, and peas in a pod with her brother — and that Sunspot could be terrifying when she put her mind to it.

Still, it was difficult for her to contain her enthusiasm at meeting yet another friend. "Hi Steph!" she replied, almost as if they did know each other. (Because, I mean, now they knew each other, right?) "I'm Journey. We're lookin' at plants and searching for my family. What're you up to?"

She was only a fraction less warm to the woman than she'd been toward Soleon — and even so, she was still quite effusive and friendly toward her.

RE: Let's make some new friends - Steph - May 21, 2020

The group came together easily enough, and Steph's gaze took in the pair before her. The dark pelted girl was friendly, and her male companion was, too, just less enthusiastically. He had a dark patch of for that highlighted eyes that were greener than Steph's own, and she found herself staring into them just a moment too long.

She blinked, and then smiled. No disturbance at all, she assured them. Her gaze moved to Journey as the other female explained their goals. I was looking for some prey, she admitted. But, now her attention was on the pair. Who is your family? she asked, hoping she could help.

RE: Let's make some new friends - Soleon - May 21, 2020

there was something that was a bit more lack luster about journey than when she had happened upon him. soleon was curious. of course, she had tried to climb a tree today. that was interesting. he was certain, given the way it went, maybe she had just been a bit tired. a wound down journey? that was a curious thought .

it wasn't long before she divulged their entire goal to the girl. well, alrighty then.

his eyes turned back to steph to find her looking at him and he wondered what exactly it was she was seeing. what did someone actually see when they looked at him? for a strange moment he experienced a level of self-conciousness and his paws subconciously seemed to knead at the earth.

"i can fish," why did he say that? "i can hunt too," or that? alright. so journey was the better conversationalist.

his eyes turned back to journey as the question was meant for her. he wasn't out searching for his family. just hers. and he was actually quite excited to see what the rest of her family was like.

RE: Let's make some new friends - Journey - May 21, 2020

Something about the interaction brought a transparently 'sly' look onto Journey's young face. Already, she was imagining herself a matchmaker, and these two her first, happy customers. Only when she remembered how vehement her friend had been about arranged marriages did she slow down an decide to see how things went.

This distracted her enough that Steph had already explained her own quest and moved on to asking about theirs by the time she felt ready to answer. "Huh?" she said, her ears and eyes swivelling back toward Steph (she had been staring at Soleon's nervous paws in joyful suspicion). "Oh! Well — I'd really like to meet my Aunt Dawn. She's supposed to be this crazy warrior hunter woman, and she's the matriarch on this side of the river. Of my family, I mean. The last I heard, she was leading a pack called Whitebark Stream. And then I've got a whole lotta cousins, I guess, but I don't know much about them. And some more aunts and uncles, but mostly those are accounted for."

She didn't expect that Steph would have much information for her, just like she hadn't expected Soleon to sudden reveal they were related when she'd asked what his mother's name was. She was already bumbling on to talk about hunting:

"I can hunt, too! Maybe we can take down a whole deer all together. What are you hunting for?"

RE: Let's make some new friends - Steph - May 21, 2020

Soleon admitted he could fish and hunt, attributes Steph thought highly of. They seemed keen on helping, something which Steph would gladly accept. I wasn't looking for anything in particular, but I'd love some help. I can't take down a deer myself, she said openly.

The hunt would go on the back burner as Dawn's name was mentioned. Steph's eyes grew wide and her smile followed suite. I know Dawn! she exclaimed excitedly. And your Uncle Sunny! He's actually around here, somewhere. He might pop up in a bit. We're looking to start up a pack, and I'm sure he could take you to your Aunt Dawn, she promised easily.

RE: Let's make some new friends - Soleon - May 21, 2020

blatantly oblivious to the thoughts and toying that journey had already catapaulted herself into soleon carried on with the rest of their conversation happily. well, he mostly listened, he didn't know what to really input. of course, steph seemed to offer the best news.

 how serendipitous!

she knew the girl's uncle and she was quite certain she could find a way to get the duo to journey's aunt. or perhaps she would like to go alone. soleon understood with perfectly clarity if she decided to part off on her journey with her family over him. at the end of the day he was just a comfortable acquaintance; wasn't he?

"We can all work the hunt together. the three of us can certainly handle a decent sized doe," he didn't like going after buck. the antlers could be dangerous. that was also hoping they could track the prey of choice down and their scent hadn't loomed long enough to repel any chance at dinner they had.

RE: Let's make some new friends - Journey - May 21, 2020

Journey nearly fell over in her shock when Steph ended up knowing two of her family members. Instead, she gave a happy little hop and turned in a quick circle to see if Soleon was also delighted before turning her attetion back to the darker shewolf.

"That's fantastic!" she cheered, tail wheeling excitedly. "The last I heard, he'd been missing for quite some time! And he — well, it's wonderful," Journey amended, deciding there was no reason to go jabbering about such things when Sunny wasn't around to speak for himself. "Yes, let's see if we can take down a proper meal! I think this calls for celebration, right?"

It was her turn, now, to bump hips with Soleon, who was the recipient of a wide, starry grin from the younger wolf. "Look how easy that was! I bet a tutor will walk right into us as well!"

With so much now to buoy her, Journey seemed quite unable to keep all four paws on the ground. Her tippy-toed gait was rather silly as she danced away from them, dark ears cupped forward as she scanned their surroundings. "Maybe toward those trees in the distance?" she suggested, not quite sure where the best prey was in these unfamiliar lands.

RE: Let's make some new friends - Sunny - May 22, 2020

this is really far along so I'll just cameo him

"The last I heard he'd been missing for quite some time!"

Off in the bushes sheltered in shade and covered by foilage he'd stopped to listen when he had heard Steph's voice. The conversation was interesting and Sunny was excited to find part of his family, especially new family until those words were said. Was his life just the source of family gossip? Why didn't anyone talk about how Aditya abandoned the entire pack and Dawn before him? How they left Sunny to carry the crumbling tail end of Morningside, they left to him to get everyone to safety. Why didn't people talk about his dad? Or his mom? Feeling wounded he chuffed to Steph, letting everyone know he was because they were talking about him and then walking off. He'd return later on when he didn't have to focus on pretending the gossip didn't bother him.

RE: Let's make some new friends - Steph - May 22, 2020

Steph wasn't aware of what had gone down between Sunny and his family, or his feelings about it all. He hadn't explained in detail what happened for his own disappearance, but it hadn't matter to Steph. Well, what matters is that he is here, and he is well, and ready to have the family back together, she said with a smile. She heard a chuff then and turned her head, expecting to see Sunny walking towards them. Instead he was walking away. Steph frowned after him, wondering why he hadn't come over to introduce himself. She knew it would have been rude to leave Soleon and Journey, so she turned back to them.

She nodded, I think that would be a great idea, she said to Journey, who suggested the woods nearby as a hunting spot. She hadn't gone through them yet, so there was every chance they'd find something there. As she turned, she cast her gaze in the direction Sunny had disappeared, and then continued on to the forest, chatting with the pair until they reached the edge.

We can assume their hunt was not successful. I'll archive this here
