the itch - Maksim - May 22, 2020 All Welcome! Midday, Dry and cloudy, 6°C
The thick crusty scabs that had formed on Maksim's wounds were driving him crazy. They itched like mad, constantly, and there was only so much patience the large tundra male could summon before he would delight in raking his craws through them. The relief was sure to be euphoric, but he knew it would only slow down the healing process. It was battle of will power at the moment, one that Maksim was stubbornly determined to win. The rain had stopped for a moment. The grey clouds had parted to allow the sun to peak out from behind them. Sunlight casting down in dappled warmth upon his back as he strolled beneath the woodland trees, his nose sniffing about the ground plants. The male's back was arched a little, and his hackles were raised ever so slightly to display his itching irritation. He still appeared unkempt and scruffy, having avoiding grooming himself so's not to nibble away at his crusted-over bite wounds. He hoped that the forest would provide him what he needed; some long awaited relief and an opportunity to speed up his healing. RE: the itch - Raimo - May 22, 2020 He'd made it—it had taken him a while, and there had been various detours before he got the bearing right, but he'd made it. The worst of the permafrost was behind him now; everywhere he looked, though marginally greener and really not as different as he expected, was the Teekon Wilds. It thrilled him in indescribable ways to know that he'd made this journey successfully, as it had been a dream since he was a puny whelp—and here he was! The sky was clear, save for a few clouds gathering like bunched cotton over his head. The grass seemed to hum. The trees were swaying against the northerly winds, the same winds that had been buffering against him as he'd made his way, almost as if they were alive and trying to keep him out. It was a glorious moment of triumph! And a little out-of-focus in his periphery, the grizzled white wolf sticking out like a big toasted eyesore against a backdrop of green. Well, nothing in life was perfect. But for all Raimo could tell, this was a true Wildling; he was already moving on an intercept course to where the stranger loitered, bursting over a hill with a thin smile on his face (which for Raimo was the equivalent of a dopey grin although it looked crooked and out-of-place). Hail!He bellowed as he arrived—his voice an eruption that boomed through the trees, spurring a flight of starlings from the henge of trees around them. RE: the itch - Maksim - May 23, 2020 Quietly Maksim trailed his nose along the floor, sniffing and snuffling curiously at various small plants which sprouted about the tangled roots of the trees and amongst the underbrush. He was on the look out for mint. It was a plant that he remembered Reiko mentioning was good for cooling the skin and soothing irritation. Suddenly a voice bellowed out in the near distance, causing the birds to flee from the tree tops all around him. Maksim lifted his head immediately to spot the dark wolf approaching him, a seemingly friendly grin plastered on his face. Although the tundra wolf had been enjoying the quiet of the forest up until now, he wasn't adversed to some company. "Do you usually make such a loud entrance?" He teased, his own grin pulling at the corners of his lips. "I'm Maksim, and you are?" The male asked, his tail waving easily behind him as he stepped to one side, inviting the stranger to join him. RE: the itch - Raimo - May 23, 2020 The inkborn wolf did not appear phased by the flurry of activity, his attention zeroed-in on the stranger and dismissive of everything else. His strides slowed so that he lingered at a safe distance from the stranger, which was done more as an afterthought than a purposeful thing; remembering that not everyone was as friendly as his own family unit, and not everyone would take to his enthusiasm. That said, the stranger cajoled him in a friendly manner. Raimo took the wave of his tail and his generally inviting posture to be positive overall. He swept forwards after that pause to drift alongside their path, sizing them up with a few glances, checking the surroundings with brief glimpses too, and sniffing at the air softly. Raimo was happy to have found someone (apparently) native to the area. I'm Maksim, the other wolf said. Ah, a good strong name. The shadow could not find any scents that might indicate a pack affiliation, but that did not dissuade him from chiming in when prompted: Raimo! With that he nodded his head like a little bow of greeting. I guess you could say I'm excited to be here, but nah, I'm usually more chill. Sorry if that was a surprise. Cue a small smirk, which was much more appealing than that initial expression he'd entered the scene with. What about you? Looked mighty interested in those weeds'n'such..?He glanced to the ground and back, not seeing anything worthwhile, not that he could identify much himself. RE: the itch - Maksim - May 25, 2020 Well wasn't Raimo a loud happy-chappy. Maksim wasn't really sure what to make of him, but he supposed as long as he remained friendly enough, the tundra male would allow his company. Maksim mirrored the dark man's polite nod. At the man's apology, a small grin pulled at his lips. "It's okay, I'm just feeling a bit vulnerable right now so need to stay out of trouble if I can help it." He curved his head around to point out the large itchy-scabby wound on his rump above his tail. "Yeah, I'm looking for something - mint, actually - that will help stop the itching. It's been driving me crazy, can barely think straight." Maksim's top lip twitched and a single eye narrowed. Even just thinking about the incessant itching was enough to make it suddenly fire up again with a vengeance. The tundra wolf gave a thorough shake of his pelt in an attempt to relieve it. "Do you think there'd be some around here?" Maksim asked. Really he had no idea if he was looking in the right place. RE: the itch - Raimo - May 25, 2020 He had not noticed the wound on the stranger until it was pointed out and even then Raimo wondered, what had caused that? Was this boy a warrior, or a hunter only? Had he fought some great beast like in the stories, such as a dragon from the cliffs or a great firebird, or perhaps a leviathan from the sea? No, they were too far inland for that. Maybe a rival man set to steal his beloved...? Ideas spawned ideas inside of Raimo. Then Maksim mentioned mint. That wasn't nearly as exciting. Raimo was not a trained physician by any means, however any survivalist should know the basics. Thankfully it was one of the few things Raimo had been attentive to during his tutoring; it helped to come from such a diverse family, as it turns out. Ah, well, I can help you look. Two sets of eyes were better than one. Then he ducked towards the soil and began inspecting the dirt, the grass, the ferns, whatever he could suss out among the dark patches scythed by slanting beams of light; there wasn't much here, and he couldn't immediately discern mint among the plethora of greens. While he worked, he glanced from time to time to Maksim, and finally asked: So, how'd you do that to yourself? |
