and spit you out - Rasalas - May 23, 2020

puppy development thread: eyes open.

life falls into a simple routine for asmoses: eat, sleep and wiggle around. it was easy, this. comfortable ...and at first everything was the same as it always was. he woke up, nuzzled into amma's side, and suckled upon a teat for breakfast. asmoses can't pinpoint the moment his eyes opened, but they did and he blinked, for a moment not realizing that he could see shadows and shapes. he detaches with a boyish yawn — like normal — and swings his head to the side and realizes that he sees liliana. or the blobbish shape of her, anyway. confused, asmoses looks back to amma and realizes that she is the big shadowy shape before him. he lets out a confused cry, not really sure what was going on or if he should be afraid of his ( poor ) sight or curious.

RE: and spit you out - Liliana - May 23, 2020

the sprite glanced around the den with murky baby-blues. there were two discernible shapes, matching perfectly with their scents, and an array of other nondescript blobs. there was a slight gradient of color; toward one end was light, and at the other was dark. liliana quickly realized that this wasn't something she could understand.

instead of tiring herself into oblivion, she crawled toward amma's side and took for herself a teat, hoping to finish a full meal before falling back into a closed-eye slumber.

curiosity wins the hand and asmoses swings his head away from his sister — whom he recognizes in some sort of primal way had fallen asleep — and studies amma again. there are no real concrete shapes, necessarily. nothing vivid that he can latch onto. regardless, being able to see shadowy shapes fills him with awe ( though he does not recognize it ); like an archeologist finding pieces of broken and faded pottery at a dig site that yielded nothing but dirt up until now. asmoses coos his delight and grunts as he scoots away from liliana's side to poke around the small space of amma's birthing den; squinting his eyes against the soft cottony light — so very different! — from the shadows and blobs that now lay behind him. intrigued, he scoots towards the light that filters in thru the mouth of the den wanting to, for the first time, see.

RE: and spit you out - Mal - June 08, 2020

Mal had been finding an abundance of very small things while hunting, but so was luck. He didn't want to entirely rely on the cache when he'd managed to catch his fill of voles and mice and had managed to stumble across an extra that might do better in someone else's stomach.

The den was usually quiet and still, and Mal did his best to not interrupt if Miriam was resting. She knew he'd be around (or had better by now), so he'd just do this until it came to a head. So he came and tucked the vole inside where he normally did, but as he did, he then saw that no, things weren't just still and quiet, but his -- he had to sniff to confirm -- son had broken away and was ambling his way. For a moment he froze, then took half a step forward, head lowered and tail starting to wag behind him, wondering if Asmoses would be as bold as Caerus, but letting the boy take the lead in what he wanted to do.
