In the end we always land just where we are supposed to be - Selamuit - May 27, 2020

: @Valette

but anyone in the fam is welcome

There are small moments in life that change your world forever. This is one of those moments...

On this particular day, the young northern prince would awaken to find that once again the strange scent was back. They had come by a few times now, and although it was welcomed because it brought food, Sela was still hesitant. There was something different, something odd about this other figure. Their milk didn’t taste just right, and they smelt so similar yet just a tiny bit too different.

As these minuscule thoughts entered his brain they were already gone, for he was not yet old enough to form a conscious thought. He would have no memory of this particule moment. But it could be significant for someone else. Like his lovely aunt currently cuddling him.

When the change occurred it startled the boy. His eyes blinking. But he was not greeted by the bright light of day, but rather his world was softly illuminated by the bright shining stars on this clear night. And so his first glimpse of the world was not one of fright, but more a curious wonder. His little lungs let out a tiny squeak as Selamuit acclimatized to his newly found sight.

Valette had been visiting Nanook's pups far more often now she had the green light to feed them as well. It still saddened her to know that she wouldn't have any of her own this year. Luckily she was allowed to help Nanook with her little ones. She wasn't sure if she would let her sister help with nursing, then again, Nanook had never showed any interest in it. Perhaps there was an advantage to it as well, as the pups would get antibodies from two different females, making them extra resistant to any sickness.

Valette smiled when she went to lie down, letting the pups decide if they wanted a meal or not. She knew that around this time they would need less of her body heat and would start to depend on their own, but would still be their heater if they wanted or needed it. She nosed over the pups and snuggled them close. She looked at the little one that let out a whimper to check if he was alright. However, she was met with opened eyes looking at her. Valette smiled, ears popping forward, though then she realized these pups weren't her own and her ears fell back. She glanced to the den entrance. Nanook was missing this moment, and she felt guilty for it.

The world was still a giant blur, but the shadowy figure staring down at him was awfully hard to miss. He hadn't yet taken his first steps, but he could kinda shuffle/drag himself places. He was gaining dexterity in his little limbs rather quickly, but he needed a little bit more time to experiment before he was ready for anything more than a scoot. Despite that limitation, Selamuit made a valiant effort to approach the blur dark blob that looked down at him. Whoever or whatever they were were very close but he was extremely slow. He squeaked a few times, and gave several grunting noises in his attempts. The whole time his eyes roamed around, often deterring if main objective, causing a sort of zig zag pattern as he went.

Valette couldn't help but encourage the little boy. She let out soft woofs to encourage him closer. She looked back at the den entrance. Nanook was missing this!! She let out a soft huff, then again, she would have four others to watch how their eyes would open. The matriarch moved her muzzle closer to the pup. "So good," she woofed. She was not sure if Nanook talked to them, but if not, she would make them get used to all the sweet words in the world, so they would know by her tone that she was happy with them, proud of them even. She licked the boy. "Good job!!,' she praised with a grin.
