N is for anywhere and anytime at all - Smush - August 26, 2014

The wolves were weary from the days' travel, the pups most of all. As the sun set on their first day in their new home, Smush remained wide awake. He'd slept through the entire journey, snuggled in the crook of Val's neck. And though nothing had changed—he had no desire to stray far from his new best buddy—Smush knew he must go for a quick flight. He and Val had collected some insects together, yet he hadn't had a square meal since his last morning at Arrow Falls.

Hopping down from his perch on the slumbering pup, the spotted bat hopped-skipped-shuffled along the ground, then found a small outcropping and carefully began to scale it. Once he reached the top, he slowly turned around, clinging to the rock and facing upside down now. He arched his head to look around himself, then jumped and quickly beat his wings to avoid another painful encounter with the hard ground.

He looked incredibly spastic doing it but little Smush managed to get some lift. Pumping his wings like a madman and huffing and puffing with the effort, he rose into the darkling summer air. The higher he went, the more breathtaking the mountainside looked. He eventually caught a draft and began to glide, a quiet, "Oh ma' Weezy," escaping him as he gaped, mouth ajar, at the stunning view.

And that's when a mosquito flew directly into his open mouth, choking him.

RE: N is for anywhere and anytime at all - Skull - August 26, 2014

It was night, and Skull was on patrol.

It would come as no surprise to Tuwawi; she was well-informed of his habits by now, surely, but the others might be intrigued should they stumble across the charcoal ghost. He often chose the odd hours, when others were asleep, to strike out across the territory and make sure all was well. Usually these lonely walks were uneventful, but tonight had something interesting in store.

As he was traversing a natural path, unaware of the splendor he was missing out on, the sound of a choking something caught his attention. It was not as loud as a wolf, but quiet like a mouse. Confused and highly interested, he looks upward with ears twisted forward and spots a grayish-white blob careening clumsily through the air. He narrows his eyes, tilts his head in an uncharacteristically youthful motion, and picks up his feet in pursuit of the bat.

"Turbulence?" He questions in his typical rumble of a voice.

RE: N is for anywhere and anytime at all - Smush - August 27, 2014

Smush gagged, then gasped for breath. Meanwhile, he forgot all about keeping his wings outstretched and his center of gravity flew out the window. He dropped like a stone, slowly revolving so that he was facing the ground as it rushed up to meet him. He entered a wild tailspin, still choking, but managed to flap his wings at the penultimate moment to avoid a fatal impact with terra firma.

Not two seconds after eluding death, Smush slammed headfirst into something soft and bounced, flopping onto the ground with an unceremonious thump. The accident-prone bat groaned. He was flat on his back, wings spread crookedly. He couldn't breathe but that was because the wind had been knocked out of him. Somewhere in there, he'd finally managed to swallow the mosquito... into his lung, at least.

Beady eyes rolled in his head before sticking on a shadowy figure looming over him. It was a wolf. "Did I just smack into your butt?!" Smush squawked, groaning as he reached one webbed hand up to rub at his head. His brain felt like mush.
