GrassJumper - Calcifer - July 31, 2020

AW! Including other pups!

Calcifer was in the midst of... well it wasn't quite hunting or stalking, more of an interested following of an unknown creature. At times it seemed to disappear but as he walked closer to the last place he saw it, it would spring up from the grass and flutter aways. Grasshopper. Calcifer trotted after it and the cycle repeated.

But as it continued the cycle began to increase and Calcifer was soon galloping and running after the strange creature further way from the den.

When Calcifer loitered outside the den "hunting", Star watched on boredly, a faint smile upon her lips. But once he began to gallop, she was pushed to follow, exiting the den, both intrigued and satisfied by his natural desire to chase. Calcifer, She called casually as she trotted after him (for she did not need to run to keep up with the boy,) Are you going to catch him? A playful smile graced her features, and if he looked back at her she might offer an encouraging wink.

He stopped in his tracks when he heard his name being called by the lips of his mother. She quickly trotted over to him and as usual, spoke a bit of gibberish. This time with mostly unfamiliar words. His head tilted in questioning though a smile appeared on his face as she gave a wink in his direction.

Then out of the corner of his eye, the creature jumped again and he remembered his initial mission. Running a few paces to catch up to it. Still clueless to the idea of stopping it or catching it.

Where will it go?

As Calcifer ran quietly after the jumping bug, Star followed behind at a languid pace. He did not seem yet to have a desire to strike it down- rather simply watched it like any curious toddler. Though this resembled hunting in a way, Star only smirked, wondering if she had really birthed two naturalists. Or perhaps a more physical side would show in one or both of them in time... but for now, she thought they were at the right place for their age. The matron tried not to disturb her son as she observed, but she was certainly interested in monitoring his progress here.

He was focused on his mission, on the pursuit. Subconsciously he likely knew his mother was nearby but it was an afterthought. He barely paid attention to what was in front of him or in his way even, trusting the little hopper to not lead him astray. But as it turned out the hopper lead Calcifer down a small sloped decline. Not fully coordinated in his large, small body Calcifer tumbled. Performing what was likely a half summersault-frontflip-flop right atop his stringy guide. He shook himself off and looked around for his Jiminy Cricket until he found it squashed on the ground. Squashed cricket or not Calcifer was ready again to follow the creature... but it stopped moving... why? He wondered looking at it puzzled.
