Like the magazines say - Ravaryn - October 13, 2020 The young girl ventured out by herself today, wanting to meet more characters.
She wasn't yet really sure what pack was, but assumed that everyone here was safe. Mama didn't say otherwise. In fact, Ryn didn't even know what danger was! Oh, such fun. She bounded out, wondering if she'd bump into the playful girl again, or the strange boy. Or maybe even her second dad! (She considered Connor her second dad because she met him second) Though whilst she was happily bumbling along, sniffing everything, she managed to step on a stick she absolutely never saw, which flicked up and bonked her in the head! How dare it! Ryn had to get revenge! She lept upon it, chewing into it and mangling her perpetrator. RE: Like the magazines say - Speedy - October 14, 2020 She was returning to the herb den, jaws lightly clamped around a bundle of willow bark. She had left the children with Emrik again for just a few hours so that she could work on her plants. She hadn't expected to find one of Kaistleoki's children wandering about on their own. The little girl looked about the same age as her son and daughter, which meant exploring alone might be dangerous. She understood their overwhelming curiosity, though, and so she had no intention of scolding the child; she was here now anyway and could watch over the pup and escort her home. She chuckled a little at the sight of the girl attacking the stick like it had done something to her first. Setting her bark down on the ground near her paws, she smiled. This was not one of Ira's children, so that only left Moonshadow to be this one's mother. She hadn't spent a lot of time with the other healer's litter, but for no reason other than she was just a busy wolf. Hello, she said gently, still smiling. Are you having fun?she asked, amused gaze moving between the pup and the stick. RE: Like the magazines say - Ravaryn - October 14, 2020 In her fit of playful revenge, she hadn't heard the adult sneak up on her.
Only when she spotted a head on the same level as hers putting something on the ground did she realise she wasn't alone. She stopped and froze immediately. She hadn't been with an adult who wasn't her parents whilst alone before. So what? She dashed away her irrational fear and her tail wagged as she trotted up to the woman questioning her already. Fun. "Yeah!" she enthusiastically replied, sitting on her haunches with a wagging tail, looking up to Speedy. Adults had food, right? Like all the time? Did she have food there? "What that?" Ryn asked, standing again and moving to sniff the bark she'd placed down, expecting it to be food. RE: Like the magazines say - Speedy - October 20, 2020 Speedy's eyebrows lifted in amusement when the girl exclaimed that she was having fun. She walked over and sat down in front of her, tail wagging happily, and the healer's smile widened. Oh, she was absolutely adorable, and she seemed curious and happy, which Speedy very much enjoyed. The pup noticed the bark then and got up to inspect it, which the Chamberlain gladly allowed. That is called willow bark, she explained. I give it to wolves when they are in pain, and it helps them feel better. She smiled again and then asked: What does it smell like to you?Smell was an important part of identifying plants—it could help you tell the difference between two similar things so that you knew which one to gather and take back to an herb collection. It was also helpful when searching through a large plant collection; it was more efficient than trying to search with sight, even if her own herb den was organized into categories. She continued to smile down at the girl as she waited for her answer. RE: Like the magazines say - Ravaryn - October 28, 2020 Sorry for the delay >.<
Her greening eyes turned to Speedy's
Willow bark. Wasn't that just ree tings? What made this one so special? "What pain?" She'd not heard that word before. Hurt yes, but she didn't know what pain was. She'd not truly felt it before. She was asked what it smelt like. The girl pressed her nose closer, inhaling deeper. "Tree," she murmured. Well, that was a given, but probably not what Speedy wanted. Another few sniffs for good measure. "It smells happy an'...warm but sharp." Phew. A lot of words with a lot of brainpower. She licked her nose, padding the few steps back to the medic. RE: Like the magazines say - Speedy - November 13, 2020 Speedy smiled. That's a good question, she said first. A smart question. Pain is what you feel when you get a cut or a bruise. Like if you fall and bump something or get hurt. She hoped that was enough of an explanation, but she waited for Ravaryn to digest the information and then ask any questions she might have. The healer looked at her encouragingly when she said the bark smelled like tree, seeming to know that she could maybe offer a little more information than that. Good job,she said when the pup offered more details. The bark smelled earthy to her, but things often smelled differently to each wolf; what was important was that she committed that to memory. So remember how this bark smells to you, and then you can find it the next time you need it,Speedy explained. Each tree and plant has its own unique scent. That was how she had always learned to tell things apart. Looks helped too, but scent was most important. RE: Like the magazines say - Ravaryn - November 15, 2020 "Oh," she replied in a rather matter-of-fact way.
Well, that wasn't too bad then, so why need something to help? Her 'pain' went away when Mama licked it better. Did the power Mama have run out one day? Or was it when you got big she couldn't take it away. Ravaryn had some thinking to do. Speedy gave her praise, and the youth beamed. Yeah, this was easy! She listened closely through her excitement. She had to remember? Yeah, this smell was Willow and it helped big wolf pain. She looked around, spotting a plant with a tall stem, long decayed to brown, and the base of it had bumpy leaves with many ridges. "What this for?" She asked, looking to Speedy for guidance. as far as she was concerned, it could help anyone! RE: Like the magazines say - Speedy - November 29, 2020 Speedy looked over the plant that Ravaryn inquired next about and moved over to inspect the plant herself. This is ragwort, she told the girl after only a few moments. She would know that smell anywhere. If you take in its scent, you'll notice a foul odor, she explained. Despite that, though, this plant can be used for minor pains and can work if you can't find willow bark anywhere. It wasn't something she used often, but she did always keep some of it around just in case, and it grew well around here if you searched a little farther from the river. She moved her gaze around the area until she saw something promising in the water. She looked to the pup and smiled. Follow me,she said gently, and then turned and trotted slowly to the water's edge. When Ravaryn reached the spot, as well, Speedy pointed her nose to the fuzzy, green side of a large rock sitting in the shallow water. That is called moss, she told her. It is good to put in a wound to stop bleeding. I also use it to deliver water to thirsty, sick wolves if they cannot get to a water source themselves. It was one of the basic things she would need to know. I also used it to clean wounds by squeezing the moss between my teeth and letting the water fall over the wound. It's easier if they can bring themselves to the river, but that is not always possible. She was afraid she had given the child too much information, and so she waited to see if she had any questions. RE: Like the magazines say - Ravaryn - November 29, 2020 Ragwort. Huh.
It sounded weird, but Ryn didn't know all the words yet so all words sound funny really. She sniffed at it like Speedy told her too. Ew, yeah. It was icky. She sneezed, then rubbed her nose clean. Ryn looked up to Speedy. So this was like willow. Hm. She tilted her head to the woman before following, bounding after her to keep up. She hadn't yet grown long enough legs to keep up at an easy trot. Soon, the approached the river. Mama told her to never get too close, so she hung back a little. Uncertain what to do without her. Though it looked like Speedy was expecting her to look at something, so Ryn approached closer, eyeing the water suspiciously. Moss. It looks like plant fluff. Her head tilted and she sniffed at it, curious. It smelt like dirt and rain. It was for this thing called wounds to stop this bleeding stuff and was used to capture water to help clean these wounds and for the patient to drink. Speedy paused, looking to Ryn with soft eyes.
